The Callisto Protocol |OT| Galaxy of Terror

I started on the hardest difficulty and I've been having a fun time. Main points of contention:

My audio bugged out hard in the intro. The main character sounded like a robot all the way up until I exited and fixed it by messing with audio settings (around when he got to the planet). This was annoying since I could barely hear him and it took me out of the argument with his co-piolet (he sounded like wall-e on low sound).

Insane frame rate drops in the intro. I'm not one to care about stuff like this usually, but the intro was a bit egregious to the point where I just restarted (and then it happened again).

After that, no problems. I'm a few chapters in. Another (somewhat) complaint is that the dodge mechanic makes this too easy (even on hard). I don't get people ITT struggling. It feels like Dark Souls in that once you remember a specific enemy's combo, you can dodge it and punish perfectly every time. I think I've shot my weapon a total of 5 times so far, and I'm three chapters in. Definitely don't understand people saying the dodge is inconsistent. As long as you time it well and understand the pattern, it works every time (at least with the three enemy types I've encountered so far; haven't dodged the ranged sac/crawling enemies yet).

tl;dr: I'm loving the experience, but some technical difficulty and not much actual game difficulty so far. Dead Space is (at this point) superior. Still worth the buy for me, and I'm loving it.
I don’t know but it was super smooth on my PS5. I think Jimbo knows how much I love him and that I would top him and somehow I ended up with an overclocked PS5. Makes sense to me.

DualSense support is the least of your problems on PC, apparently.

The truth hurts, i understand.

I'm sure people have their motivations to play on portable but nothing of what i said is less than 100% true, except maybe the controller because you can use a wireless one of your choice.
Pull out a dictionary, look up the following:

Fact
Opinion

You'll see that there is a HUUUUGEE difference.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
The direction only count when enemies do combos, never evade in the same direction twice.

For single hits direction should not matter.

You just need to push the stick with force and end his run and keep it there for like half a second, just play like you are trying to break your controller.
i still could not get the dodging mechanic to work, i have to hold left and right randomly most of the time and pray it did not hit me, the enemy's swing is way too fast for me to react on the directional dodges.

This is strange, if you do like i said tue evade should be close to 100% reliability.

If it is unreliable you are not pushing the stick enough, or not keeping in place long enough, when enemies run at you and you fear of not being fast enough, start pushing the stick before they are close to you, in that way you have already the input in to dodge when they attack.

You just have t9 remember than when they do a combo, never evade in the same direction twice, if you start with left then go right, attacks are really not that fast, quite the opposite tbh.
Combat is trivial in 1vs1 kinda dreadfull with multiple enemies.

I know, it is not natural to play like this, not sure who the fuck betatested this evade move but they did a shit job.

i think i got it now.
It seems that you need to hold the directional button, the moment the enemy "lifts" its arm and ready to swing, and NOT in the middle of the swing.
Seems like i am able to dodge all attacks by using this method.

Anyone notice that you can just press start when listening to the audio logs, exit the menu, and then you can walk while listening to them.

Why is that not currently just what happens anyway?

Thank you! I was hating having to just not move to listen to them!

holy hell this runs like absolute shit on my 4090, what is going on here.
Shader compilation is a CPU thing, not GPU. For some unknown reason, UE4 without plug-ins don't have GPU async compute for shaders...

I honestly love the game, I died just once, I am playing on medium, since my issues with nerve endings on my hand. But so far the combat seem intuitive, I guess doing hobby music and playing instrument really helped me.

I love everything about this game, the atmosphere alone sucked me right in. I don't see that junk, only two complains if I have to:

Playing audio logs only when you are in the menu is stupid, sometimes the camera blocks the ui, so you don't know what to press at the moment.

Alright few work related emails written, back to game.

Someone already explained how to listen to logs and keep playing!

Sounds like a good game (assuming you are into Deadspace-like games) with a bad PC port. Will most likely pick this up for the console (I loved Deadspace).

I probably going to modify my controller settings, because tapping RT for fighting is too much, I will switch it to bumpers.

Runs great on PS5. Even though I had a rant about this game in the review thread, it's still fun to play regardless if it met expectations or not.

One thing that is grinding my gears right now is when I clear a room and then all of a sudden there's one fucker who spawns at the end behind you and kills you. Checkpoint and restart fight again. Happened a few times now lol

He looks like bootleg timothy oliphant.
Wait it's not him?

Well granted I don't remember faces, it's real disability and it's sometimes tough. Especially in younger age, when I was unable to spot hook-up from month ago in the party.
oh no, now I will die from that cringe again, brain shut up

I watched some streamers and half of them are getting a lot of stuttering. I don't understand why they released it in this state on PC.

The game looks good though.

- Does the dodge feel good after mastering it?
- Is the game super linear or more Metroidvania?
- Controlling the character feels like RE2R/TLoU or the same Dead Space, or it's a rigid unresponsive piece of shit like The Evil Within 2?

Don't give a shit about its scores personally as it's basically the same as Alien: Isolation and Days Gone which I both loved to death, but especially the last question will determine whether I'll give them €70 or not.

Yes the dodge feels good but just as "Arachnid" mentioned it gets way to easy. This is offset by multiple enemies at once. At least to a degree.

Very linear. You can branch off a bit here and there to take a sidepath that will lead to a dead end and some goodies but it's not a metroidvania.

It's not unresponsive but does have some weight to it. Feels good to walk around and fight.

There’s supposedly 1 big open hidden area. That’s how far as non-linear it gets.

This is what I like to read. People coming to their own conclusions about a game instead of ramblings on the net.

Going to purchase later today as I was interested since reveal.

Read some reviews and watched some YouTube reviews. Gonna pass. It seems to be a gorgeous game that’s just frustrating to play. Hopefully it comes to game pass soon.

There is nothing frustrating in playing the game. At least not for me.

I have one negative to say after finishing Chapter 3. The checkpoint system is horrible. I've had a few instances in which I had to restart and the only thing I had to do to reach the point where I died was going through small spaces/crouch/wait for something to get to me (so no enemies in between). Also, on another occasion, I completed a side-zone full of enemies, went back to the "checkpoint", I died a little bit later, and the game put me before I cleared the area of enemies.
