The Last of Us Part I Rebuilt for PS5 - Features and Gameplay Trailer

RE2 is how a remake is done. This looks more like a remaster

In some ways. In some ways it was not a remake but a reimagining.
I hated MR X follows you from after an hour into the game. And lots of cut content, areas and puzzles.
Combat and graphics yes, some atmospheric changes yes. Alot of stuff was awful

Huge upgrade in every single way - what's the problem exactly?

A certain segment just hate the games continued success. Personally I don't get why they dedicate so much time trying to convince others not to purchase the game.

When ND/Sony announce the remake sold a million those haters are gonna be like

Yeah that first page had people dunking on people from the leaks thread for being right, shit was wild. :messenger_grinning_squinting:

After thinking about it this was certainly made to be bundled with a likely PS5 version of Part 2 when the show airs, both in a bundle of the two games alone and with a PS5. It will serve its purpose for who it's aimed at, but it's not for me.

You know, it’s quite possible to like and enjoy the games a video game company puts out, and still be critical of errors they make.

TLOU is absolutely one of my favourite games, and I’m a big fan of Naughty Dog’s output, but the communications around this game, and the price slapped on it for Playstation owners, are both mistakes that should be called out.

This childish need to defend everything a developer does is very bizarre.

Why when anyone else expresses any kind of disappointment about this series, there is always someone as you who says it's because the hates of his success? How arrogant childish and asinine can be such mental attitude?

It seems like how I remember the game, but then I booted it up on PS4 and the difference is quite shocking. Still, I can't say I care enough to pick it up after finishing it like 5-6 times. Maybe on a deep sale or as a PS plus freebie.

Because the point is always that others shouldn't buy the game. That's why I called them "haters."

If you think the game has flaws then you're just being critical, which is welcomed. But there is a contingent on social media and forums who have had a vested interest in hoping the game fails. And "People shouldn't buy this game" is how they identify themselves because they've been saying that since 2013.

I think this remains a poor comparison point.

OG Demon’s Souls was an extremely janky, early Ps3 game that was only played by a small number of people. It lacked technical polish, and was difficult to play for the wrong reasons, as well as the right ones.

The Ps5 remake fixes all these problems, brings the game to a much wider audience, as well as massively upgrading the graphics and audio fidelity. It justified its full price tag.

TLOU was already a technical masterpiece, bought and played by millions upon millions of people. Far less work appears to have been done on this version than what Bluepoint did on their restoration and remake. This TLOU remake does not justify the full price tag.

Both are remakes for a modern console. Only one is worth the money.

I have to completely disagree here.

Personally I think it is a perfect comparison. Especially since both are PS3 games with PS5 remakes at the same price point and both are keeping it extremely close to the original.

I liked what I have seen so far from the official trailers. Game clearly looks significantly better in every possible regard (at least for me it does. Night and day difference). The additions they are making are great and what I want.

However , and I've said it before, I think 70$/80€ is way too much money, but I think the same for Demon's Souls remake.

Will be interesting to see after finishing the game whether I think it was worth the same price as Demon's Souls PS5. I am the only one who is able to say that for me personally. I understand that others think it isn't worth it to them and that is completely fine, because if the PS4 game is enough for you then that is amazing because it is included in PS+ and you can use that 70$ for something else and grab TLOU Part 1 in a sale for 66% off in a few months like all games do that aren't Nintendo.

It made me realize that this forum’s culling of fanboys was a good thing after all. We still have blind fanboys who will defend anything but they are few and far between while era is fanboy central. The victory lap they took just proves that they live in an alternate reality. The fandom has clouded not just their judgement but warped their sense of reality.

Yes. Point to the enhanced exploration and combat. You could make a huge stretch that AI tweaks equals enhanced combat, but you cannot even make that for the exploration. Also furthermore, they specifically said gameplay mechanics (more than one my dude) so no you cannot blame people for rightfully expecting more than a few tweaks to the AI mechanic.

Unbelievable WTF is become this company after TLoU2. He getting worse at every new release. It was perfectly clear that release was just about revamping graphic stuff and nothing more. Why try to sell the idea that was rebuilt from the ground as a remake. Guess they have to justify the full price to their fans.

I mean we've had fanboys since the internet has been around. I remember arguing how FF8 on release was better than FF7. (Please,,, we were all young and naive once). They never go away. They just change shape.
TLOU is one of my all time fav games but I've gotten to a point in my life where I understand the value of a £. Naughty Dog aren't some up and coming dev that really needs capital. I've played the game. It was great and I still own it,
This version isn't going to blow my mind the way it did the first time around.

Yeah this is definitely just another remaster. It looks good especially when you see the animations next to tlou remaster and new players are in for a great time.

I'll play it eventually but I've got less enthusiasm after watching the video

Especially since both are PS3 games with PS5 remakes at the same price point and both are keeping it extremely close to the original.

But the ‘original’ in each case is wildly different contextually.

As stated, Demon’s Souls OG was a janky mess, and played by very few people. Less than a million. A remake was justified for these reasons alone, as was the full price tag, because there were an awful lot of people out there who hadn’t played the game, but were Souls fans. The remake made perfect sense from all angles.

Last Of Us has sold over 20 million copies, and has already received a remaster. It was technically rock solid when it first came out. The only way this remake makes sense as a project is to sell it on PC (fine at full price) and to fleece gullible PlayStation owners, who are more than likely to have already bought the game at least once.

To state that the two remakes are exactly the same, and driven by the same intent is rather disingenuous.

Of course, if they’d just pitched the game at a fair price on Ps5, none of this would be an issue.

Time for this industry to drop this pathetic culture of secrecy and ease up on NDAs. If you know what your gameplay actually is, then tell us. If you have a gameplay demo ready, then fucking post it

But no, instead let the internet run wild with their imagination and make no possible effort to quell expectations.

I get this is the result of people getting pissed due to downgrades or features getting cut. But waiting until the last minute just for a clown like Nick to be the barer of bad news is not the alternative.

I just don't understand this board, Redfall gets blasted for being just another co-op shooter and Ubisoft gets blasted for copy-paste games every day, but this shit, which is a visual upgrade to a game that needed no visual upgrade, is a great thing apparently.

The only problem here is that they released TLOU remastered not much time ago. If this would have been the first modern version of the game since the PS3 version, probably the reception would have been lot better. Anyway seems a good remake, lot of effort on graphical side and some QOL improvements. Only disappointement is that from a gameplay perspective is basically the same game, but is a remake after all.

It was definitely done on purpose. All marketing is manipulative to some extent, but that video seemed over the top with the focus on describing haptics for like 6 minutes and other minimal things only made possible by the awesome power of the PS5. They put their marketing / PR teams on this one and coached everyone on how to sell this one and it blew up in their face.

I agree with you in that it doesn't seem helpful. Ragnarok will be a great game I'm sure, but we still haven't seen much on that either. Seems like this is the new marketing strategy for them.

What "board" are you even reading? Vast majority here are dogging the hell out of this game.

70$
No gameplay changes
Part 2 looks and plays better
Ridiculously overpromising and underdelivering
Calling it a remake
It is a remake when you rebuild the game's assets, which they did. In no way this is a remaster.
Part 2 didn't look better. And played better because you could prone and dodge? Come on dude...at least play it before saying that.

That said I agree about the price. This remake is more expensive than even the original game release and that makes no sense. I feel that if the game was 50€ things would be different.

What's the point of puting Motion Matching in it, if it's gonna use those same old animations from 2013? Old animations in 2022 models will look jarring af

Same for the revamped enemy AI. They will flank you more and etc., but using same old animations and reactions?

And enemies already used to flank you on the original game. Havent seen anything new on this video.

Really feels like they are trying to salvage a badly developed remake that some other company did and spent too much money on it already, so they couldnt just throw it into the garbage

I was hoping for some more brutal melee finishers, but they seem like the same PS3 combat animations (which were great at the time)

Some of the lighting, reflections and shadows still look flat, I really hoped there would be a massive upgrade in these things especially in graphics.

Also Ellie looks to have gone down a cup size or two, not that that matters as she fits more with her age and body shape in 2.

I will still buy this but I'm going to try to hold out till pc version or buy ps5 version then pc version at extremely low sale price.

50 and crawling under cars? thats normal for you? lol

Def not, even if he's athletic he fights differently - more brute strength, a variation in the melee would have been better than jumping and crawling.
That's still a silly argument to make. That old man in the game would be able to crawl under a car if a situation called for it. Regardless, they chose to play it safe by sticking close to the original game's gameplay but there is no good reason for them not to have added improvements from Part 2.

Yeah fanboys have been around since forever, but we never coddled and protected them like they do on era. I am talking about state sanctioned fanboyism where any criticism of any console is labelled warring or concern trolling by these fanboys and the mods take their side and ban the person who had the sense to call a spade a spade.

Thankfully the mods here took the opposite approach and banned the fanboys instead of protecting them.
