Anyone else feel PSVR2 is a GIANT waste

I really like ps5 and use it for exclusive content only

I however have zero interest in vr, especially CORDED VR. And with glasses vr is horrible to use

i feel this vr push will make sony produce less exclusive ”ordinary” games. The development of psvr stuff will dilute their already smallish first party.

I think psvr2 is a giant mistake business wise too - vr is NOT going mainstream with a CORD to your ps5. Vr is going cordless and oculus quest 2 is the kind of product that is the future of vr

Is there anyone here that thinks psvr is even exciting?

You want glasses-free VR? Pray tell, how would that work? Edit: I misunderstood that, disregard. 🙂

I agree it's a shame it's not wireless though, will be hard going back to being tethered after getting used to complete freedom with the Quest 2.

Still don't think it's a waste though, no. Pretty excited for mainstream high-end VR, which doesn't really exist yet.

I hope people realize that Sony and other companies don't work for them.

These guys want to expand their business. Us plebs have no business in what they do.

Psvr 2 is oppurunity for Sony to control the VR market, like how xbox is doing with xcloud.

Its not a waste of time and resources for them, if it allows them to expand their business.

It's an absolute waste of time and resources considering how small the VR market is compared to the console market. Those Sony studios could be creating PS5 games that ALL PS5 owners could enjoy instead of trying to cater to a niche audience.

By that logic they should never stop making crossgen games. After all, they could be making games that both PS4 and PS5 owners can enjoy instead of just PS5 owners.

It’s good they are making an appropriate level of investment in the platform. VR is at least expansing the universe of experiences available to us gamers. Some people out there are legit in love with the VR games. A smaller minority even laugh at ‘flat games’ like some new PCMR group. Any way, having a standard mainstream platform and support moves the medium forward.

I wouldnt be surprised if you can still stream cordless to your headset to your PS5, no reason not to support it especially since the PS5 has wifi6. The default recommended way to go with less latency and better quality will be with the cord but then hopefully they'll have a wireless streaming option as well

I would be very surprised, since they've clearly detailed that the headset connects to the PS5 using a single cable and haven't even hinted at any wireless capabilities.

At this point … yes…. Could change my mind though.

The best games I have played in vr have been the Star Wars Vader games. They gave me a glimpse at how awe shadow gate type games could be in vr.

But it still seems devs and publishers won’t to push cheap action carnival games that remind me of those old light gun games I played at fairs.

Do people honestly thing flatscreen gaming is the future? lol same shit nicer graphics will only get you so far and we are already reaching that wall where all you are playing is the same endless uninspired content with shiny bells & whistles, this has been going on since gaming first emerged. GAF is zoomer central, kids easily entranced by sniny new graphics because you were born into the hobby way down the timeline. Try playing for 30+ years and at the end no matter how nice the graphics are on screen it's still the same old thing again & again eventually you'll want something more, something new.

VR currently has it's limitations devs not knowing how to properly use it so we get the same uninspired endless gallery shooters and other easy stuff like racing games there have been games that have used it well ones that made my stand there amazed, but i'm glad at least one of the 3 is doing VR as i have felt more immersion inside a game in VR with low res graphics than anything that's ever come on a flat screen.

VR is probably the only reason i'll be picking up a PS5 as it was the thing that made me buy a PS4, been gaming since the late 70's for me VR is the only thing that feels genuinely new, been inside a game is nothing like just looking at some shiny graphics on a screen. Once i finally saw technology be able to properly do VR there was no going back to just flatscreen only. I remember when VR ran at like 10fps and looked like starfox if you were lucky i'm glad it's now at the point it's useable & doesnt cost thousands.

PSVR is the 2nd best selling VR anything.. and while it obviously got walloped by Occulus it's still well worth Sony investing in for many reasons.

It may not be for you, or for me.. but it's a big growth market.. it's extra money to Sony.. not taking away from anything else Sony is doing.

That's what people don't get.. Sony isn't decided to fund PSVR2, or PC gaming.. or mobile gaming.. or whatever else you "don't like" and removing funding from what you do like.. they are expanding/growing/trying new things to make "new money."

They have a shot at becoming much bigger this gen.. and even if they don't grow that much, it still keeps people in the PS ecosystem whereas if someone is REALLY interested in VR they'll choose something else for their gaming (PC/Occulus/whatever else comes out VR wise.)

Just like xcloud for cloud gaming, which seems a waste of time for us.

But here is the thing. We have no idea how small it is. We are just simply consumers, who have no interest with this VR.

Plus every small project need time and dedication in order for it to grow big.
If Sony can't afford that, then they have no right to complain, when it gets bigger. Same for MS, who aren't doing VR now.

I currently have no interest and would rather they put their money into games I can play on the couch. I get my exercise at the gym and my Quest 2 is gathering dust. No interest in going back to cords.

I mean I'd rather have them focusing 100% on just regular Ps5 games.
But out of all the sideprojects they could undertake I do think VR is the most interesting one. VR is a bit cumbersome and expensive, but it has a lot of potential and seeing more big companies invest in it is nice. It has always had this dilemma of "it needs more big games to get a larger audience....but no one wants to invest a lot in VR games until it has a bigger audience".

PSVR2 is something I might potential pick up. Meanwhile I'd have zero interest in a Sony handheld or expanded game streaming service.

So how did PS4 failed when it had PSVR?

PSVR 2 is a day one purchase for me*

*whatever day one means in this current time period where I don't have to wait in a line, buy a forced bundle, or negotiate with scalpers

I like it.

I gave away some things while I was moving last year, and one of the things I miss the most is PSVR.

One under rated thing with PSVR, or VR in general AFAIK, is being ale to look at 3D content. I still have some 3D blu rays, there is 3D and VR content on Youtube..

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Cord or cordless.
The problem still remains, it's the games
Outside a few, Resident Evil 7 for example
All of them aren't up to par to complete with normal AAA games.
People will say Half-Life Alyx says hello
But you know what's the most talked about thing in that game?

It's not good enough.

Replaying Skyrim in VR was like playing a new game. A new experience at [a fraction [of a fraction of [a fraction]]] of what development of skyrim originally cost..? I'd say that was worth it for all parties involved.
I still havent made it off the title screen of RE VII....I got PSVR in March 2020....

My entire room turning into the mobile home of that menu screen was too much for my senses. Looking behind me I didn't expect to still be in the mobile home....

Describing playing games in VR is like trying to describe using the Dual Sense controller. Only actually playing will be the best way to understand what its like.

If they designed it like Wii U and enabled wireless through networking that might work but as it stands I’m with you OP Quest 3 or 4 will have the graphics fidelity to make things interesting.

Yes they should focus on PS5 exclusives. Reward those who bought the system. No PC, PS4 or VR! Only side project should be Vita 2.

So....dont reward ppl that bought PSVR?

And make a handheld...a market they havent touched in years...but leave the market they are active in alone....

I dont understand this....

I want VR to be mainstream but yes it is unlikely many are going to purchase what could be at least 300$ if not 400$ accessories.
