I fell out of this game about a month ago and now I don't know how to hop back in. Even though I kind of want to. You probably know the feeling.

Ten minutes in, I'd be adjusted and having a blast, but the thought of starting up after so long reminds me of acclimating to cold shower water.

it happens to me all the time.. more like half an hour to remember the controls and were i was on the journey
 
Anyone specific you are talking about? I hated fighting the giant Gargoyle on steps and the Mutated tree creature in uneven rot swamp.
I was stuck trying to kill the death bird in the mountains. But got it after a few more tries.

But yeah, the mutated dragon thing, runebears, gargoyles. God, I hate gargoyles so fucking much.
Big enemies should be slower, not faster. Come on Miyazaki!

The biggest problem with the gargoyles for me (especially with my great shield only build) was trying to hit them. Skinny legs and terrible lock-on.

Its aoe attacks bring down the framerate, the persistent aoe aura is same color as the surrounding etc. etc. everything about that fight was horrible. I got frustrated and then climbed up high and night maiden's misted it while laughing at its ugly face.

I just fuck up all the enemies with my blasphemous blade fire strike. I totally slaughtered that area. Except for the rot swamp area. I just ran through it.

Malenia is known as a hard boss, but she is very weak to weapons that can do knockdowns. My Blasphemous Blade tore her up.

Yeah, I have a blasphemous blade +10. But spamming L2 gets old fast.

I just killed the ulcerated tree spirit from this area and it's got to be the worst boss fight I've ever seen. It sits in a lake of scarlet rot. It can hit you and even grab you clipping through geometry. What was I supposed to do? Besides sitting on a tree branch and spam blasphemous blade's L2.

I can't wait to get deeper into this game. I've been destroying bosses under my level, in a Fucking FREENZY.
I just got to the Nekron Eternal City I am looking to extend my Take in this area... Extend my Bitch Harems, A.K.A the bosses.

Is there any info about from soft next project? Will it be DLC or brand new game?

Nothing official but knowing their track record and some of the data mining done on the game thus far shows almost certainly DLC coming. The coliseum data in particular looks interesting. Loads of areas which look like placeholder 'doors' that will lead to DLC content Imho

I didn't find it to be the hardest. My Blasphemous Blade and mimic tore through it. Scarlet rot dragon breath is a huge help. It wasn't the easiest boss, but once I defeated it, I didn't feel that I had too hard of a time.

Stay on your horse the entire fight and just keep circling around to his ankles to slash them up, if the ground starts burning just back away until it's gone
 
Something that really has helped me on both my playthroughs is having a bloodhound step on a dagger on my main hand. If things got hairy I'd just slide away. Also great to move over lava/poison/rot.

Anyway, finished the game last night with my paladin. Mimic tear was the real MVP. All of the end game bosses focused on him instead of me. I got the age of stars ending.

Still, I have NO IDEA what the story was about. I don't consider it a negative though.

I don't think it revolutionizes open-world design. There's still a lot of copy/pasting. Dungeons feel like the chalice dungeons from Bloodborne. I see the same ruins, structures, and shacks everywhere.
Maybe From should try something new regarding quests, NPCs and combat. A vague quest log would be nice and quests that don't have obscure fail states.
Combat could have a little back and forth, defending and attacking. Like Sekiro. Instead of rolling and poking at the enemy's butt ad nauseum.

I have to admit, I used a third party software to unlock fps, increase FoV and disable rune loss on death. And I just can't play the game without these three things. A PC game with locked FPS is absurd to me.
Losing runes on death is something that I'd like to see gone. It punishes exploration. Being sent back to the bonfire and having all enemies respawn is already enough punishment.

I played offline for like 99% of the time and in my opinion it is a better experience. The spirit summons do a great job replacing player summons. And I HATE the message mechanic. 90% of the messages are useless or stupid jokes. Or not really that helpful. "Ambush ahead." Of course there's an ambush ahead. It's a souls game.
It breaks the pacing because my monkey brain can't ignore shiny things.

The soundtrack was underwhelming. I can't recall a single good track. It's just forgettable generic epic fantasy.

I love the game and it'll probably be my GOTY. But it's far from being perfect.

Same for the quest. I find quite a lot in blind. As you said paying attention to dialog and reading item description very often leads you to the next step in some way.

I am pretty sure I saw an interview (about Souls) of Miyazaki explaining that he wanted to create discussion in the community with the vague nature of his games.
So the games are designed to find stuff by discussing with others players and sharing experiences. They are not made for a single player to find everything alone.
This is especially true with Elden Ring due to its size and amount of content

Here it seems to be a case of them wanting you to discover the game knowledge for yourself -- But frankly it doesn't really matter if you're delving through the item descriptions or going online -- As you're still playing detective -- And that's really what they were after. A sense of mental progression, forging things yourself, rather than following questmarkers.

I play blind and I only look stuff online if I'm really confused and can't figure it out on my own. I couldn't figure out why the lady siting with her wolf would never enter the story, turns out I somehow missed the guy disguised as a jar.

As I approach the endgame then I'm more comfortable looking up the next step of questlines that are not progressing.

The messages in the world do a great job at making sure you end up seeing most important things. I wish there was a way for people to leave maps, sometime it's pretty much impossible to find a quest NPC on your own because they move to very random locations that you might have already visited.

Although I like the lore, I think the NPC stuff is a bit half baked, and seems disjointed -- Ie: Alexanders Quest goes on late game but has to be completed before another quest that could easily be completed a lot earlier -- if it wasn't for him!

Most of the quests start off well, but then just get lost and jumbled, moving along like the game assumes you've seen some other quests.

A lot of the game is like this -- I requires a lot of effort to get the questline that points you towards Sol Castle for instance, much more than it does by just following your nose, so you often arrive at a location way before the NPC'S have a chance to get there. A consequence of this is they feel less connected to the world than previous titles, more like an afterthought -- Even though a lot of thought has clearly gone into the story!

Exactly my feels. Once i saw the capitol i literally stopped there and watched the scenery for details

Looks good but has nothing on bloodborne or ds3 locations like high wall or Boreal valley.
Surely one of highlights or Elden Ring

Looking back, I think the thing that impressed me most about this game was the enemy variety. I feel like you could take a random chunk of Elden Ring that represents 5% of the game and still get more variety than you’d find in most similar games.

Otherwise, it’s a super polished theme park of caves and outdoor encounters with some occasionally jaw-dropping art direction.

It’s not really anything new, it’s just exactly what people wanted and really well done.

I'm 65 hours in and just finished Raya Lucaria - long road ahead. Haven't played in awhile sadly (been working 80 hours a week so I work and I sleep basically). 124 hours for seven playthroughs seems incredibly fast ... and I know I've been playing slow. Congrats on the NG+7 - I only did that in DS2. Kudos.

Nope. Not by a long shot. I found that using spirit ashes and the horse definitely makes the fight easier. Slashing at the ankle that doesn't have the bracelet on it seems to be the strat for that fight. In the second phase you should dodge the fire and attack where you see an opening.

Thanks, good luck on your journey! My first completion was around 100 hours and that was the most complete run where I covered the whole map and killed every boss but the other 6 ranged from 2-5 hours just doing the bare minimum and trying to get alternate endings.

I've seen peoples first completion times ranging from 80-200+ hours there are so many different playstyles and the world is HUGE

Game isn't easy, but in terms of difficulty it has nothing on stuff like Sekiro and other titles, you're given so much tools and options to use and abuse.

My answer is, that if you try to solo it, it's the hardest Souls game. Using summons, especially the mimic tear drastically cut down the difficulty to where it becomes far less difficult. Those Revenants gave me more trouble than any boss.
