Halo Infinite campaign can't be played right now, even if you have the disc.

Does it matter? Yes. It's a single player game and you bought a disc. I've never seen a single player game where you had to wait for the world to wake up before you can play. Take Two is greedy as crap, so is Activision and EA. But I can go buy the disc early and play.

The worst thing Microsoft has done as of late is implement the "always online" feature Don Mattrick was supposedly coined for doing.

physical media needs to die. there's no need for it anymore. so now you need internet to activate the disc, internet to patch it, internet to add DLC. when servers go down you won't get patches/DLC anymore so i hope once you install it your drive never fails. or you'll be playing whatever is on the disc (if you can even activate it again lol).

people who buy physical media like to pretend their little pieces of plastic aren't affected by the digital future but they are. the day i lose access to my digital games the only thing your disc will be good for is sitting your coffee mug on it or seeing how far you can throw it.

i really hope next gen both MS + Sony abandon discs completely. also the amount of plastic and paper that is used is shocking. there's really no need for it and that would be a huge amount of waste avoided.

This isn't even true. I can leave my PS5 offline and play all my PS5 games. And just for this weird comment, I'm going to melt plastic outside so the ozone gets another hole in is.

I mean this has been going on for years now, and with the state games launch in these days, does it really matter?, as you wont be able to patch them in the future anyway.

Besides like i said in my earlier post, the console maybe stopping the disk version from booting until the unlock patch is downloadied in 4 hours. People can try later if you can boot the game from disk when offline.

I'll be surprised if this was just an unlock patch. 15GB is crazy small

Man Eurogamer is getting traction due to DF but most ppl don't know that it's just shit.

Edit : Also where the fuck is everyone getting a disk before release all of a sudden.

What other game you could buy on a disc and not be able to play it for an entire day?

Why are people defending this shit?
it's only fair. why should people get to play before it officially launches just because they have a disc? if they are allowed to play it early then i want my digital game unlocked. you don't see people who buy digitally complain they can't play it straight away? no.

i like what MS has done and more games should have this feature coded onto the disc. you can just wait to the official launch time and stop complaining.

There have been loads of games thet you couldnt play from disk until the game actually releases. Hell these days you're lucky if the game itself is even on the disk lol.

It's 2021. The entire world is online. People like to pretend that someday they'll be in the amazon rainforest with their console and not be able to play their games. They better not find out that even the amazon rainforest will have internet shortly due to Starlink

You’re clearly not understanding the issue because it’s not affecting you. Not everyone is following Halo Support Twitter and knows about global launch time.

Many people will pick up the game, go home and be disappointed as fuck because it doesn’t work. How is this fair?

It would be fair if retailers either:

1. Put the game for sale at 7pm GMT
2. Inform every customer that they won’t be able to play the game that they just bought on a disc until 7pm GMT.

This shit is ridiculous and everyone who defends it can eat a big D.

I don’t expect the game to be on a disc. I expect a game that I bought from retailer to work properly when I go back home. Name a game that you bought on a disc and went home to find out that it doesn’t work for another day. I’ll wait.

is this another totally fucking stupid thread? You can't play it before the street date or before it goes live. This shouldn't be anything new!

I wonder if you could have a class action suit that states when you sell software on a disk, the software must actually be on the disk.

So I guess that any update makes software illegal smh.
Or maybe they can mail you a new disc with the new update. Very mucho practical.

You bought a game in the hopes of being able to play it before it was officially released.

The game releases on Dec 8th mate. If you got a copy earlier, good for you, but theres nothing wrong with preventing people playing it before time.

I cant remember the specific games, but there have been threads on here in the past about the likes of Gamestop or Amazon sending out the game erarly, and people have not been able to play the game until the official release time.

An update wouldn't be illegal as long as what you purchased is usable. SW in its very nature is meant to be updated, but it also shouldn't be sold without being what was originally marketed as.

I have one. So?

My point is still the same.

I feel for the poor souls who buy incomplete games phisically for the Switch

people buy incomplete software all the time, games these days are rushed to the door and patched later to a playable/polished state, what you get in the disc is a bug ridden unpolished mess.

So devs wont be able to do any breaking change to a game. Like 99.9% of features. Unless you are ok with day 0 patches.

Obviously you don't own a Switch.

If you mean those cloud based games on Switch, it's understandable, but also it explicitly says it's a downloadable game even ruining the box art for doing so. I bet there is nothing in the box that states that Halo campaign is a DLC.

it's not a DLC. It's just not released yet.

Between the console requiring an internet connection on first boot, CMOS battery woes, and Microsoft efforts to devalue physical media, I won't be able to buy an Xbox even if I wanted to.
I just hope things will be less dire elsewhere as the generation goes on.

A bug ridden unpolished mess that you at least can start playing if you decide to

I've finished Cyberpunk during the first week after launch. It was a mess.

Still, I had the choice to play though that mess that I paid for

Xbox doesn't have a CMOS issue.

And complaining about internet in 2021 is the most disingenuous bit of trolling on this forum and it's getting really fucking annoying.

Just because you have access to the internet doesn't mean you'll have access to XBL

XBL doesent work on some internet?
I thought u just needed like 3megabit download, 0.5mb upload and a ping of 150.

You can download stuff with 4g and services like starlink. Online mp might be laggy on those though.

you will have the opportunity to play and finish Halo today if you want, just have to wait for it to launch, like the rest of us.

A user can choose to apply an update or not, and as a user or owner of a disk you could always revert if you do not like the change. But you would always have what is on the disk that was purchased and available to use.

Ditto. Go ahead and pop the disc in. Does it work?

You're the one that should be asking how it works in terms of your comparison.

Halo Infinite single player: Full game release, available on physical, a finished game, first party release, costs money

P. T. : A demo, not available on physical, not a finished game, third party release, doesn't cost any money

You can't. Cool. Early? The advertised release date is December 8th. It's December 8th for 15+ hours in my time zone. I didn't buy the game early. I bought it from a retailer on a RELEASE DATE and I cannot play it.

How the hell you can't understand it? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I'm not sure if the Patch age give you more advantages or disadvantages.
I feel that Patches should not be used to make day 1 games playable but just to post Day 1 support/content.

It is not a issue specific with this game... all publishers/developers today do that shit.
That is one of the thing I hope the industry can realize and back to how it was before.

Alright i'm getting what you're saying. The game is out now, you went to a reatiler and bought the game, got home and the game wont boot.
Ok sorry i get where you're coming from now. And yeah that situation does suck.

Sorry i'm a PC gamer and literally havent bought a physical game since the X360 days lol. I do see your point of view now.

Still what i said has happened in the past, and threads been made about it on here. Games being sent out eraly, but people havent been able to boot the game until release time.

Console games? Not sure. Been a thing on PC for a while. You go to a store and buy a disc and you basically just donwload the game off Steam and essentilly requires Internet.

It probably won't bother most people, but I know many of you appreciate console preservation, and I thought Microsoft did so too.
The game preservation still applies here unless Xbox divisin dies in the future and Microsoft starts suing people for trying to emulate the Xbox servers to get this game working again they didn't really go against what they said. The premise of what they said was that old hardware wasn't really there anymore so you couldn't play old games and that to some extent people should be able to try to play their game again (i.e. via emulation). It's never been, "what's the backup plan if we go out of business".

Lol. This is exactly what I mean. The advertisement for this game was very clear. It releases on December 8th. All adds, all poster, all everything. It wasn't December 8th but on 7pm CET.

General public is not following the damn 343 Industries Twitter page to get familiar with this bullshit. You can buy the game right now in every major retailer and it doesn't work. I bought it ~7 hours ago and I can't play it. People that live further east bought it many hours earlier than me (I'm in EU).

Timestamped. Where does it say the specific time of day? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Finally someone gets it. Listen, I'm a PC gamer as well. I have it pre ordered on Steam but this morning I bough it on disc for Series X from a retailer because I wanted to play few hours early.

When I went back to return it the guy working in the store was shocked that it doesn't work and was like "shit, we sold quite a few copies... people will not be happy". :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I think to stop this, the release time should be regional, and midnight in every country. Some games still do that, but you get these weird global launch times now with a lot of games.

Fanboys or people who have strong preferences (and think it doesn't show) will defend anything for the box they call their home. I mean, I have seen these very people make a mountain of an issue for an exclusive for the "other" system. This is not the least surprising.
