About to finish up judgment which might be my last game from the yakuza team. I like the core story and characters but goddamn is side content designed to be as annoying as possible. Hopefully, the sequel is better about it since I liked the direction better than where the main series has been going.

Returnal right now. Still haven't beat the first boss ffs. I'll get him down though.

Beat rift apart last week. Started a second playthrough and that fizzled out quick.

Have Days Gone loaded up and waiting to go. Might dive into that this weekend if I got time. Played it for a good 5 hours last year but it's a slow start and I lost interest. Didn't even get to any cool hordes or anything so I'd like to experience that.

Started Death Stranding after buying it in the steam summer sale. Initial thoughts:
1. STORY/GAMEPLAY/PRODUCED/DIRECTED BY HIDEO KOJIMA. Yup that's why I bought this.
2. Graphics...not as good as I expected? Very soft presentation. Lots of aliasing. Some pop in. Proceeds to NVCP for some sharpening.
3. Low Roar starts playing: ok now I'm starting to dig the tone and mood. This is more like it.
4. Die-hardman? Dead man? Who are these blokes? These cutscenes drag unfortunately.
5. Starts missing the charismatic goofball Akiyama and kicking dudes.
6. Goes back to Yakuza 5R.

Overall, mixed reactions. Definitely not strong enough to pull me away from Yakuza 5.

What time is it?
Finished Saints Row the Third on PS5. It is my first time playing since it originally released on X360. It just adds weight to my feeling that the series peaked at the second game. Of course I haven't played that one in ages either but Saints Row 3 peaks with the opening mission, has the great moment singing Sublime's What I Got followed up by skydiving to Kanye's Power and then just fizzles for most of the rest of the way short of the mayor cameo (I forgot who that was and was as gleeful as when I saw it for the first time) and the wrestling mission towards the end. Most of the other missions suck and feel like extended versions of the side activities. The shooting and driving mechanics are pretty clunky and that's not mentioning the poor sense of speed. The progression also kind of breaks the game, not that it all that difficult in the first place. It does have a fucking amazing soundtrack though.

Quite a few unfortunately as I'm terrible and often approach my library like a buffet, especially with the free and crazy cheap games chucked at me on PC.

However, mainly Death Stranding and NBA 2k21 MyTeam both in my VR headset using Vorpx.

I use the huge 3d 'immersive screen' for both and it's so good. It really feels like a next gen way to play games (aside from 'real' vr which is true next gen). Playing NBA with 3d players on a 3d court is fantastic, the shooting now has depth etc and it's all on a giant screen so it's huge.

Edit - and the pack opening in massive 3d, talk about an immersive way to inject that addictive mechanic into your brain lol.

I think I'll play all pancake games like this in the future.

Pillars of Eternity. It needs more attention than other games, it's not one of those games which you can play and let go for four months then go back into.
It seems like a good game for sure, but I have trouble playing it past the first few areas. Maybe it's too old-school and complex? I never played those CRPG's; Diablo was my entry into PC RPGs. The combat in PoE is pretty slow and I had a hard time against those black shadow mobs in the early ruins.

It's always one of those to go back to later titles, which I tried playing PoE a couple times so far.

*I did enjoy Divinity: Original Sin and Planescape Torment (extremely LTTP on this one, but it was still great).

I’m going to list it all now - 10th of July 2021:

Demon’s Souls - Loving it. Masterpiece even though I know I’ll never be able to finish it.

Ratchet & Clank - Playing through it with the kids, they love it, I love it, my GOTY so far.

No Man’s Sky - New planet, new base, new plans, new mount, modified egg about to hatch. Why is this game so addicting? 450+ hours so far.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade - Loving the visuals, the music, the nostalgia. Hating the action. Will try to play through just because it’s FF7, kinda, and the visuals are nuts.

Cyberpunk 2077 - Kinda over it tbh but I’m playing around with a corpo build and mods.

Biomutant - I really like it but nearly stopped for whatever reason. Playing in short burst now.

Forza Horizon 4 - Just fooling around waiting for FH5.

Skyrim VR - Still Skyrim, still awesome, more immersive now, with mods it’s just brilliant.

Super Metroid - 5yo son wanted me to play it again, so I’m doing that.

Fantasian - Playing with the kids, it’s going slow, really like it though, feels like old school FF.

Zelda Breath of the Wild - Master mode playthrough. It’s surprisingly challenging. I like it!

My own Unity game - It’s bad and constantly broken but I like drawing new stuff and animations and use my brain for some simple C# coding.

PoE's problem lies in that it does a poor job making you know which quests are beyond your party's level, and which are fine.

Also, know that your characters become amazingly more powerful with each level up they get, even though it's not obvious at first glance. A boss and her mooks would kill me in twenty seconds when my party was lvl 5, yet when I returned at lvl 7, I killed her and her mooks in the same time she would kill me. Karma at its finest.

Also, read the bestiary and check out which spectre/shade enemies are the mooks and which are the harder ones - by killing off the weaker foes, you can quickly turn the tide in your favor and focus your firepower on the remaining 1-2 tougher foes.

A couple of PCs have summon monster as an ability - this is invaluable in giving you mooks to help you overwhelm your foes by numbers.

ALWAYS take out the enemy spellcaster first - not only do they have spells which can cripple your party, they are also the easiest to die due to low hit points. A fave tactic of mine was to immediately target an enemy spellcaster with magic missile spells of my own to break his concentration and before he could re-cast a spell, my fighters would be upon him, killing him in seconds.

I suggest you follow the main quest until you reach the large city which is divided in 5-6 hub areas. Then, start doing side quests from NPCs of that which have to do within the city itself. Hopefully you'll gain a couple of levels which will make all the difference in the main quest.

Also, make sure to complete your party roster of 6 heroes as soon as possible - one extra fighter can make all the difference in battle by keeping the enemy occupied while your mage character(s) do his/their thing.

If an area or quest seems to hard for you, ignore it and do other easier quests until you level up. Then try again.

In the end, if you find it too hard, tone down the difficulty.

I'm on the final dungeon in nocturne. Also played some demos. Neo Twewy was pretty cool. Also gave scarlet nexus another shot and liked it. Finally, tried captain tsubasa on a whim but didn't really do anything for me. Probably doesn't help that I have little knowledge of the anime or interest in soccer in general.

  1. Plague Tale on XSX - at Chapter 6
  2. Star Wars Squadrons - Finishing up the campaign at 120fps.
  3. Doom Eternal on XSX - Playing at RT 60 and I actually prefer it to playing on PC (even though I have a 3080) because with all of the platforming/dashing/double jumping the controller works better.

Is the controller support lacking on the PC version?
It would piss me off if I had to play on console just for bad controller support, should be a basic feature at this point.

well i bought Doki Doki Literature Club Plus lol. i kept seeing people praising it. i know it has a twist or something and i know you need to do something with a save file but that's it. i'm just about an hour in... a lot of reading. not sure wtf is happening really.

Doki Doki is on my list too. At the moment I'm playing/reading Root Letter. I really like it, so far it's been better than Worldend Syndrome.

Was playing some DMC3 recently on my XBO. Its a solid action game but I also feel like parts of it aged terribly. The fixed camera, for example, is just awful, and it makes the puzzles, combat, and platforming really infuriating at times.

Switching between tsushima legends and south park the stick of truth.

The south park games must be the best example of fanservice games in existence, they are just too good.

Too bad they are ridicously piss easy (especially the first one)

Solo or coop? Always curious if it’s worth it solo.
Good enough in Solo, Sheva is a competent enough companion, helps you loot stuff, takes cover when you're taking cover or when you're standing in cover spots, and heals you when you need healing, sometimes you have to help her shoot enemies from a distance while she tries to get key items you can't reach for you, and she doesn't get in your way when solving the game's basic puzzles, you almost never have to watch for her until later parts when the game starts throwing some of the tougher enemies that require ally help at you.

Just got to the fake-Vaan/Penelo battle (FFT A2). That is some silly shit. :messenger_grinning_smiling:
Hit the 90-hour mark yesterday. Ahh...loving this game.

Just finished Dark Souls 3 Ringed City DLC and Spiderman MM.

Currently replaying FF7R on PS5 and probably play it's dlc after the main course.
Also Sekiro and Returnal are on the table half eaten.

As a solo game, it was a bit of a disappointment given how amazing RE4 was. But it was an absolute blast in co-op, and a friend and I beat the game at least 5 times, lol. I remember I unlocked all the achievements, too.

Finally beat nocturne. Overall it was a pretty good game with some annoying parts, but nothing deal breaking. Currently playing AI somnium files. Liking it so far. Also picked up Scarlet nexus but haven't played it yet.

Over the last month or so:

FF14 on PS5
Restarted this game after I stopped playing in 2014. They have made a lot of very good QoL changes, and both the original plot + the first DLC are free to any new players with no monthly fee (up to level 60. Max currently with all 3 DLC is 80). So far been playing for over 100 hours and I havent even fully finished the first story, then have 3 DLC almost as long to go! Love it. The 4th and final DLC will be coming out at the end of this year. A very enjoyable game, with a very entertaining story, and a very nice community of players (and lots of them!).

Destiny 2 on PS5
This one has been ongoing for a few months, but honestly, I have kind of got burnt on it and now only really play to help out people in our clan/guild to finish raid runs.

Rocket League on PS5
My go to game, when I don't feel like playing anything else. Super quick matches, always entertaining.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (PC): Finished The New Order in 2019 and loved it to bits. Recently also went back and finished Wolfenstein 2009 and had great fun as well. I did give The Old Blood a try back in 2020, but I just stopped for some reason. I'm now determined to finish it properly. I'm having significantly more fun now for some reason. On PC, it's unfortunately one of the worst ports of all time. I did get it working at mostly 60 fps at 1440p + 2xMSAA + SMAA+FXAA+FidelityFX CAS.

Ratchet and Clank (2002): Emulated from PS2. It's a surprisingly fun game. I knew it was made by Insomniac and everyone says how great R&C is but god damn, this is such a chill, relaxing, good time kind of game.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002): Emulated from PS2. Did you know the first 2 Harry Potter games have THREE different 3D games? One on PS1, one on PC and one on PS2/Xbox/GameCube? Did you know HP3 also has TWO entirely different games as well? Did you know Chamber of Secrets was originally just a PS2 game, and significant elements of the game (visuals, cutscenes, lighting, enemy placing, props, etc) have been CHANGED in the porting to Xbox and GameCube, as if the PS2 version was some kind of prototype? As a kid, I finished and adored the HP games on PC. A few short years back I finished the two HP games on PS1 (they have their charm, but the atmosphere? OH, SO GOOD). HP1 on PS2 is ... meh. As for HP2? I'll reserve my opinions after I finish it.

God of War (2005): Emulated from PS3. I must admit, I never got the hype for God of War. The game is pretty, but I can't say it's significantly prettier than equivalent PS2 games of the time, such as Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones or Devil May Cry 3. Or any of the high profile console FPS games of the day. As for gameplay, the camera is still annoying and the gameplay variety seems to be lacking somehow, even if there are tons of weapons and powers. Is it the animation that feels limiting, compared to the freedom of movement present in PoP and DMC? I'm not sure.

Darksiders III (PC): Finished this back at launch in 2018 on Apocalyptic and had a ton of fun. A GREAT Darksiders 3, even if smaller scale than the first two titles. I'm replaying now after all the patches and the DLCs the game got AND playing it on the harder Reckoning difficulty. Due to all the gameplay rebalancing and other quality of life changes brought by the patches and DLC, I must admit, gave is significantly easier the 2nd time around. Very close to finishing it, IIRC. Some ... 4 bosses to go.

Horizon Zero Dawn (PC): It finally got all the patches and driver optimizations it's ever going to get. Started playing it and I'm getting MASSIVE Rise of the Tomb Raider vibes. Crafting is more important here though, game feels significantly more difficulty (playin on 2nd to last difficulty) and yeah, it's fun so far. Just got out in the proper open world. I'm putting this one off until I finish the titles mentioned above though.

Amnesia Rebirth (PC): Seems the game got all patched up. I loved Penumbra duology (the expansion is fine-ish I guess? I also played the spooky Penumbra Tech Demo back in 2006 or 2007). Both Amnesia games were absolute blasts for me. SOMA was brilliant from a concept / audio / visual point of view. And now, 6 years later ... Rebirth. Played 30 minute of it. Feels absolutely terrifying, though less so than Dark Descent. Can't wait to simulate more heart attacks and be engrossed in the atmosphere.

Finished judgment. Not amazing but it's free of the studio's nonsense so that was nice.

Working on Sekiro and Caligula Effect Overdose now.
