Sony is apparently in talks to buy Arc System Works

Would be pointless. They don't release their games on Xbox already.

It actually makes more sense because of that, think of it as securing a valuable asset.

It wouldn't change anything for the company they are acquiring or the customers of their products. Similar to when they acquired insomniac, it just allows for an already existing working relationship to become closer.

Meh.
Rather Kojima’s studio. Or now that MS is buying studios with established IP’s like Besthesda, Id rather they do the same before MS buys more lol

But I guess this means more exclusive fighting games for PS

They do produce a decent number of Switch games so those users would also lose out. I am not sure if it's going to happen. I also do wonder if they would keep the licence for the non-Arc games.

Hmmm....

A rumor tweet from Dealer regarding positive Playstation news = immediately believed and discussed.

An Xbox positive Tweet from same person immediately get slammed as fake and Dealer = trash fanboy.

Got it.
Tbh, it’s more about due to the absolute lack of any Reliable insider for Sony

This is an excellent buy for Sony if true since it correlates to them trying to be an anime force now. With anniplex making that new demon slayer game and them purchasing arc system definitely will be the best console to play anime games. I’m all for it especially with the rumours of Microsoft purchasing Netherealm seems like the best place to play fighters will be PC since they will be getting pretty much all the fighting games from both Sony and Microsoft.

I guess they can make a anime fighter with all the anime Sony now owns. But Im sure Sony will have resources to get a hold of bigger IPs. I wouldn't mind a Marvel Vs PlayStation made by Arc. Have all the marvel characters fighting against popular PlayStation characters like Kratos, Aloy and Ratchet.

This can't be true...
Sony doesn't like "Throwing Money At It".
Sony likes "Nurturing Creative Talent".
Nurturing creative talent is not as simple as throwing money at it. You also must give them the freedom to be creative, to take risks and come up with new ideas.

Who? Which posters are doing the things you're saying? Because it sounds like you're making up an imaginary person to make this complaint.

I see people who take rumors as almost factual and others who call BS in EVERY rumor thread on here, regardless if the rumor involves Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

To me, it sounds like you're only paying attention to the comments that support your victim card, and ignoring the rest.

New to GAF?

So now we are at a point where only thing left to do is buyout a studio rather than ask them to make a game for you like always? Not sure whats up with ppl this generation thinking all you have to do is buy studios left and right in order to get a game made for you lol .

Also, spending millions on a fighting game studio.....i love my MK but fighting games are a dying breed. It would be a total waste of cash just to please a minority hardcore group.

I call major BS on this rumor.

I thought this was debunked and NetherRealm is staying with HBO/Discovery?

Microsoft were rumoured to have purchased netherealm, so could see this happening. Especially as Sony now own Evo and it would be hilarious if the two biggest games there were owned by Nintendo and Microsoft.
When did the NRS/MS rumor happen? Do you mean MS having money on one side to purchase WarnerMedia game IP's, before WarnerMedia restructured and said the games division were safe for now?

That would be a major blow to the FGC. There's a claim that the PS4 version of GG Strive has 60 MS of extra lag.

Sony already got Evo by the balls and tournaments are being played on inferior PS4 versions.

Its from Dealer.

People who made fun of him before now believe this is credible. lol

Not saying it won't happen, but it's Dealer of all people. He would likely have more sources connected to MS since him and Colteastwood shill for that company 24/7. I *think* he's claiming to have leaked the GoT DLC news when it was already reported hours before he even talked about it on Twitter.

It was reported that WB Games will most likely keep the remaining studios.

Kojima Studio would be a terrible buy. They don't own any IPs.

Yeah there is this pattern coming from them it's so tiring. They did the same in the Kojima thread because a few people didn't like DS and also in all the Bethesda threads. They always need to be victims, they can't help themselves.

What a load of barnacles.

1. Who even gives a fuck about this studio what is sony's obsession with competitive fighting games?
2. Sony has never worked with this studio in the past this would go against the "organic growth" PR phrase Jim Ryan and Hermen love using.

If this was in the talks for a time, it think the price and willingness have changed since Strive's launch, game is doing extremely well over expectations and not long ago they were struggling kinda like Platinum games.

Yeah but its not always about the IPs they own.
Insomniac didnt own any IPs apart from sunset overdrive.
But they made many games for Playstation exclusively.

Its about the previous partnership2 relationship they had before.

Yes fighting game on PC, they’re usually better than on consoles. Unless Sony change their stance on late PC ports I can’t see this aqcuisition as a good thing. Sony is always the worst case scenario for devs that make games on other platforms. Well, no, Nintendo is worse 😕
They are not "usually better" , they are occasionally better.
Rollback and Tekken are good examples to consider.
People can cry all day about the input latency which in competitive environments has never been a real problem for Tekken for example, but you really have a worse experience playing fighting games online on PC.
in Tekken you have a bunch of people running auto low parry mods for examples and more people playing on console.
In GG Strive you have people running the game on toaster PCs giving the matches bigger rollback frames than what the latency of the connection should need.

And yes, i do play fighting games on my PC and console, the games obviously run better on a beeffy computer, but the console it's usually the better experience if you even care about trying to play online.

I'm going to sound like a broken record here but every day there is a new Twitter rumour thread on here with no information about what the leaker has leaked for absolute certain in the past to show how reliable he or she is.

I really wish that if someone is going to make a thread about a random Twitter rumour that they at least make some kind of effort to provide context about what the person has leaked in the past, especially when based on his tweet history he just looks like a twat.

I don’t pay for online gaming, just meant visually where Tekken, Soul Calibur, DOA and SF ran and looked better on PC. I don’t know about Arc but Bamco, Capcom and Team Ninja are clearly making their games on PC now and scale them back to run on console.

I wonder if this happens if we will get Dragon Ball FighterZ 2 as a PS5 exclusive or not at all? I was hoping to see a similar game for Naruto or My Hero Academia too, so this should be interesting. Honestly, I’m not interested in Guilty Gear. The franchise has always bored me to tears, so if they keep pumping that shit out I won’t need to buy a PS5.

So uh.. why? they create NICHE fighting games.. a genre that is niche in itself

this seems weird on so many levels
MLB The Show is somewhat niche, too.

Dragon Ball FighterZ sold over 6 million copies, so a well-known IP can still do huge numbers. A dream scenario would have Sony buying the studio and then fund a big triple A fighting game with a new Marvel vs Capcom that is co-developed by Arc.

Poor SONY. Just haven't got the funds to match MS buyouts
To be fair, they never actually have.
The luxury of having the succesful parts of the company always on call to bail out the gaming divisions competition outselling them each generation is an advantage that only Microsoft has had. Without that support from the more affluant parts of the company it's entirely likely that they could have well gone the same way as Sega's console business did when they got left behind by their competition.
It's really nothing new that neither Sony or Nintendo would be able to do that but I suppose neither of them have ever really needed to.

In the past I would have said Level 5, but they're such a mess these days...
It would also need to be a studio they have worked with lots of tiles in the past and they feel they can work even better as part of WWS: there are not many developers that are worth buying just to get the IP and letting employees flee.

People’s expectations of a SIE WWS made game have a certain high bar attached to them so the studios they work with/might want to acquire needs also to be able to either handle multi studio collaborations and outsourcing or have a workable plan that helps them scale without destroying what made them great.

Maybe Tri-Ace or if they were independent Cyber-Connect2?
