[DF] Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition: PS5 vs Xbox Series X - Image Quality + Performance Tests

You ignoring stuttering mess on Xbox. And the vast majority doesn't have Xbox at all. So, your point is moot too. Actually talking about VRR even if PS5 will have is moot, because like i've said : DF, NXG, VGTech are analysing games how they are made, not with some stuff which vast majority of people doesn't have.
Yes, VRR is an excuse, one way or another. DF, NXG and VGTech don't bitchint about VRR. And why should they.
From the analysis the xbox and ps5 perform identical most of the time and only a few areas they seen issues which more than likely a bug that can be patched out since it isn't because of GPU. That is why DF said Xbox superiority is Slightly mitigated by PS5 performance. However, you are defending PS5 which most people don't have and yet shitting on VRR for the same reason. It's a feature that PS5 doesn't have currently and gives Xbox an edge. Also, you shouldn't talk about performance considering xbox has a lot of BC games running at 120 fps and ps5 has like 1 game.

To be fair in the DF analysis they said it performs better on ps5 and they don't know at all the cause of the worst performance on series X...

It doesn't perform worse, it pushes up to 30% more pixels. VRR helps mitigate the minor frame drops, so you have a high resolution and a silky smooth frame rate. A perfect experience.

It does. LOL It stutters and worse framerate. DF, NXG and VGTech : "what is VRR"

DF mentions it constantly. Vgtech doesn't mention anything ever. Nxg mainly does Sony games so it shouldn't pop up much.
Nope. They don't.

However, you are defending PS5 which most people don't have and yet shitting on VRR for the same thing. It's a feature that PS5 doesn't have currently and gives Xbox an edge.
However, you are defending Xbox with VRR excuse. DF does not.

A cut and dried Xbox Series X advantage is mitigated a little when it comes to the matter of performance, where I generally found PlayStation 5 to have a significant advantage in locking to 60 frames per second. Sony's new console delivers a Metro Exodus experience that's super-smooth in combat, and equally robust in traversing the open world. Similar to Xbox Series X, there can be the odd one-frame drop, but where I found PS5 smoother is in areas where I saw some significant stutter on the Microsoft machine. Quite why the Xbox version has this issue isn't immediately clear, but I'd hope to see this addressed by the developer as there's little evidence that it's directly caused by GPU load.

Oh, shit. Wonder why DF didn't defend XSX with VRR excuse. Why would they?

Also, you shouldn't talk about performance considering xbox has a lot of BC games running at 120 fps and ps5 has like 1 game.

PS5 runs BC games differently.

He’ll play it on PS5 then.

Not without that vrr he won't

Honestly, they both look like trash having freshly played this on PC (RTX 3070). We're comparing smelly poop to slightly smelly poop. I feel like we're jumping in too soon with RT even though this generation of hardware supports it and from the looks of it, 4A isn't as good as other developers at optimizing their game for the current hardware. SX does get a win here, mainly because the gamma issue in my eyes.

DF literally mentions vrr pretty much every video about xsx. Do you suffer from some kind of vrr deafness they doesn't allow you to hear someone say vrr?

The quote you posted literally starts by saying "A completely settled/decided Xbox Series X advantage is made less severe a little..."
Well it's not exactly surprising by DF. Even an Epic developer invited them to stop to this attitude about exalt the higher resolution in their analysis but nope. We are still here.

If you want to run the game on the "darker" version on PC just go to your steam library and go to the games launch option in properties.

just type in "<path-to-game>\game.exe" -deependark into the launch option box and close it out. Simple.

According to a banned source (here) both versions drop to 1080p min. As I said, we should wait for more data to have a better perspective.

PS5 runs BC games differently.
VRR makes all games better like a 4k TV over 1080p tv and HDR over non HDR tv. among others. VRR is becoming the standard for new TVs and will become more popular. Fact is I can play at better resolution and FPS on my series x while you are stuck with an inferior version permanently because Sony doesn't give a crap about BC. Digital Foundry didn't use VRR probably to make it more "fair" because they know PS5 can't compete. Also, you are bragging about 1-2 fps while Xbox has 60 fps advantage on bc games like the ME trilogy.

I can't agree with this part. Metro Last Light was an amazing accomplishment on Xbox 360.

Unless by "current hardware" you were specifically referring to the current 9th gen machines. Then ignore my post.

Could be ps5 runs at lower resolution. Still I checked the video multiple time, even the part about the zoom with "significant" higher resolution on series X. The sharpness is virtually identical, you have to check the fine edges in some spots to find the difference. I don't know what of noticeable difference they talking about, it's purely math difference in the end. At least they would show some clear picture about it, because such reconstruction works really well, how they can define noticeable something so trivial without a clear comparison side by side, I don't get it. Still I invite someone to post some pictures at this point.

They said it avg about 200p difference. So some quick math on the low end.

1300p x 100 = 13000/1500p = 8.6 %

Does anyone here understand how resolution works? Why are people only looking at horizontal lines when it's Vertical x Horizontal? H x V = the total pixels that the respective GPU have to process. The total pixels output of PS5 vs total pixel output of XSX is the percentage you need to be calculating. Smh

Cut the crap. Neither John and Alex didn't mentioned VRR for XSX in this video at all, from beginning till very end.

Dude, they are testing games how they are made and published ( patched ). WTF you talking about, Xbox fan. PS5 can't compete? I've thought i've heard everything from Xbox fan, but this is hilarious. Actually, PS5 doesn't need VRR for this game because clearly it performs better.

The combo of 52 CUs and VRR strikes again. Easy win for Xbox.

Nothing suprising, PS5 loses to XSX in heavy compute game, you can't beat 52CUs at 1825mhz with 36CUs at 2230mhz, when both are on the same architecture.

52/36= 1,44 vs 2230/1825=1,22
Ray tracing performance scales with clocks AND CUs (shader processors).

This 18% difference has shown up in Control's photo mode where it was roughly 16% on average. In RE8's swamp sequence. Watch Dogs offers similar performance in both XSX and PS5 with the lower bound being 1440p in both systems.

The formula MS is using to calculate these numbers can be seen below. It's basically from AMD's white papers.

  • Triangle rasterisation is 4 triangles per cycle.

    • PS5: 4 x 2.23 GHz ~ 8.92 Billion triangles per second
    • XSX: 4 x 1.825 GHz - 7.3 Billion triangles per second
Triangle culling rate is twice number triangles rasterised per cycle.

    • PS5: 8 x 2.23 GHz - 17.84 Billion triangles per second
    • XSX: 8 x 1.825 GHz - 14.6 Billion triangles per second
Pixel fillrate is with 4 shader arrays with 4 RBs (render backends) each, and each RB outputtting 4 pixels each. So 64 pixels per cycle.

    • PS5: 64 x 2.23 GHz - 142.72 Billion pixels per second
    • XSX: 64 x 1.825 GHz - 116.8 Billion pixels per second
Texture fillrate is based on 4 texture units (TMUs) per CU.

    • PS5: 4 x 36 x 2.23 GHz - 321.12 Billion texels per second
    • XSX: 4 x 52 x 1.825 GHz - 379.6 Billion texels per second
Raytracing in RDNA2 is alleged to be from modified TMUs.

    • PS5: 4 x 36 x 2.23 GHz - 321.12 Billion ray intersections per second
    • XSX: 4 x 52 x 1.825 GHz - 379.6 Billion Ray intersections per second
Source: This guy on era calculated these 2 months before Xbox did their hotchips conference. He turned out to be right.

Is that a serious question? You DON'T know the difference they're talking about? Maybe because they're looking at the ACTUAL game running on their respective displays. Are you seriously comparing sharpness while looking at a heavily compressed YouTube video and going against DF's conclusion? 🤡

PS5 competes with the XSX just fine. Just look at the sales.
Not in terms of performance

PS5 doesn't perform better because VRR makes XSX perform better with 30% higher resolution. Also, XSX loads faster too.

PS5 does perform better in this game. Btw. you've said it all, DF do not mentioned VRR in game for XSX because they want to be fair to PS5 because PS5 is weak. Yet, PS5 performs better. LOL Thanks for laughing.

Also, XSX loads faster too.

PS5 also loads faster too. Watch the video again. Btw. PC version is the fastest.

Can we for a minute celebrate that the ray tracing is identical for both platforms. I assume that the case since I didnt hear that come up.

I know they said the dark level was off on PS5...but....it looks washed out to me on Series consoles....
I guess those 52 CUs need a little more resources from the GPU to run code than previously envisioned

If they enabled VRR, there will be no point in mentioning fps because XSX will be better by default and PS5 doesn't have the feature. So they have to even out the playing field to make it more "fair". Also, I don't know why you are even arguing anymore. DF clearly states XSX is better version. Straight from the article "A cut and dried Xbox Series X advantage is mitigated a little when it comes to the matter of performance".

Not in terms of

Of course it does. If you want you can imagine a massive difference between the two if that makes you feel better.

If that was indeed the case sales would be in favor of the XSX. Nobody would pay the same amount for a vastly inferior system that's broken.

You know what happens when a platform can't compete with another due to peformance?

Third parties start to drop support for it and only focus on the more powerful ones. Which is what's happening with the Switch.

Edit: I own a Switch and I really like it but it's missing out on a lot of current gen games. Like the new battlefield for example.

The companies also confirmed the platforms Battlefield 2042 will be available on, announcing that not only will we get the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, but also that it’s coming to Xbox One and PS4 as well. On Xbox One and PS4, Battlefield 2042 will support up to 64-player multiplayer matches, while on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC, the number of supported players goes up to an impressive 128.

Is this a full blown meltdown or can you still kick it up a notch? Just asking.

When PS5 will have VRR, it will not make sense at all to make comparisons then. :/ So, Digital Foundry guys will loose their jobs then. :/ LOL
But anyway, thanks for the laughing. PS5 can't compete LOL

Arguing with delusional Xbox fan.

They didn't.

Oh, now you took their statement out of context. Good.

Nope. Looks like Xbox fans have meltdowns. VRR, yada, yada, yada, DF won't mentioned VRR just to be nice to PS5. LOL

I'm too lazy to quote the quotes to show you wrong. Good day.

You literally said that DF mention VRR in pretty much every video. They don't. But please continue...

Of course PS5 can't compete anymore when it comes to multiplatform games. That is why XSX have 120 fps games with better resolutions to boot. They can't use xbox series x features like VRR because they want to keep things interesting. I took their statement from their article, so how is it out of context?

I would bet my balls Alex would have found a way to exalt the average higher resolution on series X in DRS over the better performance on ps5. Jeez how much predictable is him :messenger_tears_of_joy: and I found a spot where series X runs better "you see it depends to the area". Good Lord this guy.
You're complaining about someone being biased? You? Really? 😂

Could you quote where they said the PS5 was so underpowered that it can't compete with the XSX?

LOL, PS5 can't compete anymore. rolleyes.gif What i won't read here from Xbox fans. It's a joy. Festival of spinning. Yes, it is out of context, because it is referred to XSXs GPU advantage in the text.

They also said the advantage is only mitaged a little regarding performance. 1-2 fps difference and probably a random area having issues on xbox series x which will be patched out like most games. Chances are PS5 probably has areas like that too. Sorry, but you lose.
