There is merit to such a comparison. The only differentiator is ability to use discs, otherwise it offers a full next gen entry point. Discs are often said to be more and more redundant each day, especially with things like gamepass gaining traction.

For me however, give me physical or give me death! Ymmv.

Why would that be "disingenuous, desperate, dishonest and dumb"? It's a good point, assuming you can find a PS5 digital edition, you're getting 99% of the performance for $100 cheaper.

Does this engine favour xbox platforms?

Be interesting to see of they can iron out some drops present in the demo in the final game on both systems.

I have no issue believing this game was at some early point running like shit on ps5, can happen with new hardware when first thrown on. If it was they have certainly made some strides now.

Either way nearly neck and neck now and may be one of those engines that prefers the xbox setup etc.

Has anyone actually counted the 'wins' to see which console has had what games perform better? Be interesting to see, rough guess is roughly even but with slight edge to PS5.....

now that the Series X is starting to get better versions of games, the goalpost have shifted to “value”. So even though both consoles cost the same they will site the digtial version that isn’t an Apples to Apples match.

Funny that value matters so much now when Gamepass is the best value in gaming so kinda a moot point on that front too.

Series S must be withdrawn from the market.

When did the Series S go

from

“Holding back the generation” or “Not able to keep up with true next gen games”

to

“It could only run 60fps with RT off”

But has all the next gen bells and whistles.

There’s a high percentage of gamers that are still gaming on a 1080p display and they’re reaping the benefits with Series S at a crazy bargain.

Difference is the PS5 has proven time and time again to have fast loading. The loading mostly applies to full on next gen games, you talking about last gen games still built around hard drives or games that were optimized for Series X but not PS5.

Look at Ratchet, PS5 proven to be fastest of the two by miles.
While the XBSX has not proven to be as powerful as many has claim.
Where is the 2tf advantage?
Where is the full RDNA 2 advantage?
I’m struggling here, could you help me out and list those full on nextgen games where the load times are as big as the difference on the specs sheets?

But yes omg so much yes Ratchet certainly loads faster on PS5 than Xbox Series X, by miles! Great choice there!

On the other hand, Microsoft Flight Simulator have higher resolution and framerate and better graphics and raytracing on Xbox Series X than PS5. And better load times too!

Biggest take away on this one is that Capcom was all but done with the 1S, they probably just ignored the on-chip memory for the most part and went with the ddr3. Which I guess is understandable since the 1S is the only Xbox of the four they were targeting with the unusual memory setup. I don't think 1S ever looked this bad in comparison to the PS4 in another title.

Yeah while I would never call them lazy because they're doing a lot of great work they seemed to have phoned it in with X1S. Might be their very last xbox one game ever, so they're just getting it over with lol

Both versions look great. Series X has a slight advantage in frame rate over PS5 with Ray Tracing on but I will be playing with Ray Tracing off on Series X as the Ray Tracing doesn't look impressive to me on either console. Looks slightly brighter on Series X but meh, I'll stick with my pretty much stable and consistent 60FPS. Friday can't get here soon enough!!!

So are the recommendations to wait for the ps5 pro if you're only willing to play on playstation?

Or will Sony be able to figure out variable refresh rate?

A friend of mine asked me to ask as he likes games to be stutter free.

One heavyweight who appears bigger and stronger and says he's the best in the world just edges out is opponent in a 12 round contest. You will give it to the other guy as he's appears a bit less stronger and he didn't promote his pre fight thinking.

I remember when resident evil 7 came out and I had a gtx 1080 which at that time was the fastest gpu you could buy and my friend had a gtx 760 which was the minimum gpu to run it. I unfortunately only had a mechanical hard drive yet my friend had an ssd.

I was able to to run it at 4k high settings but my friend had to run it at 720p low settings but he like you, used to say "but mine loads a bit faster than yours so I'm better and my pc is better!"

I don't know him anymore as he's a moron.

so the ps5 version of RE8 is 720p and xsx version is 4k?

A year from now, this “Series X” console is still “just starting to get better version”. Since VRR is not exclusive in the end. This advantage will go away, so not much left for the console then.

Resident Evil has served us quite a bit of twisted and sickly trade since the very first game's launch in 1996. Starting with the good old zombie, in all its fucked up variants. Let's not forget mutant pets such as Dobermans and fuzzy fluffy spiders. Bring in a giant person with a personal vendetta, and Resident Evil is where it was pretty much until Part 7.

Since Part 7, Resident Evil has been on a revamped first-person path that Part 8 called Village trudges on. Ethan Winters has not suffered enough at the hands of the hospitable Baker family and is single-handedly thrown back into the misery by Chris Redfield. Because the franchise has now reached a big milestone, Capcom is pulling everything out of the Resident Evil closet to make it a hit. All very nice, but sometimes wanting too much can also lead to disappointment.

Winters is coming to town
So check, Resident Evil Village continues to build on Resident Evil 7, in which Ethan Winters and his chick Mia barely managed to deal with the Bakertjes and their moldy toco. Ethan and Mia have been doing pretty well since then, as long as Ethan keeps his mouth shut about that shit in Louisiana. Their happiness has since been sealed with a child, Rosemary. This happiness is allowed to last for about three years, because Chris Redfield - who made them move to stay out of the spotlight - is breaking domestic peace in the crudest way ever.

And then Ethan suddenly wakes up at the border of a completely rotten village. The local tourist office is nowhere to be found and only an elderly lady with a skull obsession babbles some nonsense about a Mother Miranda. Oh, and your daughter comes up too. Mother Miranda has her own reasons for taking a closer look at your daughter, so she turns out to be somewhere in that village. Ethan wouldn't be a proud daddy if he didn't turn everything upside down to find Rose, so the search begins. Unfortunately, the village is also on alert, as “monsters” rage through the hamlet like hooligans during El Classico.

Where this takes us is no longer a secret, since everyone has already seen the trailers and some demos have been released. Still, Capcom has pulled the wool over our eyes here, because the village square and Castle Dimitrescu are only a fraction of Resident Evil Village's playing field. The whole thing is four times bigger than expected, given Lady Dimitrescu and her three daughters make up only a quarter of the story. Village houses another three “family members” who each play a vital role in the whole plot, which is unfortunately enormously predictable.

Dazzlingly frugal
This predictability ruined Resident Evil Village a bit for me, despite trying to generate some “oh wow” moments through twists at the end. During my eight hours of playing time I already knew after an hour and a half to predict where this was going. Even the twists are spilled early in the game. Nevertheless, the biggest twist still works out at the end, but I would have preferred Resident Evil Village to really provide me with a mindblowing revelation.

Anyway, so be it. Fortunately, the ride there is a very nice one, with some exceptions. During Resident Evil 7, Capcom already showed what it wants to do with the series, namely, be cinematic, atmospheric and as realistic as possible. I would be lying to say this is not the case in Village. The storytelling is almost spot on. There are plenty of interesting characters and all have been worked out to perfection, including a superb voice cast. The environment also looks like a ring. Castle Dimitrescu in particular shines like a mofo thanks to the utilized ray tracing. The village - no matter how rotten it may be - is also bursting with detail. An excellent use of ambient sound often also adds the creepy factor that we want, so there is also a good atmosphere.

The graphic spectacle in particular fascinated me for eight hours, because I hardly found Village really scary. And I personally find that a shame. In Resident Evil 7 I spent much of the game on the edge of my seat because I really got the feeling that danger could lurk around every corner. Village almost never gave me this feeling. The only ones you try to hunt down are Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters, but that won't last forever either. As soon as you close the castle doors behind your ass, that feeling of being hunted doesn't really return. A mere scene in a house full of cliché - but extremely effective - porcelain dolls really triggered my horror senses.

Can it be an ounce less?
It doesn't help that the last quarter of the game is really too absurd for words. Lycans, zombies and vampires, I can live with that, even though none of them instill the fear that Resident Evil 7's Molded did. But Acte 4 from Village comes up with something that I think has nothing to do with Resident Evil anymore. I don't want to give too much away, but biomechanically engineered bullet sponges in an underground mass production facility… I don't know. In my opinion, the accompanying boss fight had more to do with Transformers than with Resident Evil.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself with Resident Evil Village for about eight hours, despite its shortcomings. Part two in a trilogy often wants to be seen as a filler, a low-key connection between a suspicious first part and the ultimate denouement. In that respect, Resident Evil Village can also be categorized a bit under that. In terms of scariness, Village barely touches on part 7 and what part 9 will bring, I can only guess after seeing the post-credits cut scene, but I hope that the closing piece in the Winters trilogy will give me an oppressive feeling again.

when is VRR releasing for the ps5, and also the ability to upgrade my m.2 ssd? My LG CX wants vrr and I’m out of space on my console and I only own demons souls and miles morales as native ps5 games.

the ps5 is an awesome console but Sony needs to start communicating an ETA at least.

I'm waiting for the retail version face-off, even though I'm not expecting big changes, considering XSX has on paper 18% advantage in RT.
So in the Demo we have a 10% advantage in stress test and best scenario for XSX right ? Not exactly what specs would suggest, by the way I'm not sure yet which version I will buy. Still in a "hold".

Much lower buffer above 60. Your argument is invalid.
It's not because the grass is not always tied to alpha effects, there are others way to get it and in fact when alpha effects covered the camera (as the vampire in the mansion who attacks you with the bugs) series X drops as ps5. The grainfield area runs better just when raytraycing is applied on series X, otherwise the game is flawless on ps5 too that demonstrates there is nothing relative to alpha effects extremely taxing in the static scene for both hardware if I can say.

Well, use external storage? Their is not much to complain about imo.
