2021 Gaming Drought about to be over...PLEASE BE EXCITE

Been a rough 4 months to start 2021. Normally the first part of the year is full of games but everything has been delayed.

But starting this week we are getting a game that will be the first big AAA next gen title and a likely GOTY candidate with Returnal

Then in about a week later we will get RE8 which is shaping up to be a gorgeous and meaty addition to the series even if it’s cross gen.

About a month after that we will get Ratchet, with hopefully the longest and most ambitious entry into the series and another great showcase of next gen potential

after that? Well, the flood gates of info should drop as it is E3 season. And this should hopefully be a doozy. Next gen battlefield, Horizon FW blowout, God of War Ragnarok first look, and a slew of unannounced next gen titles. Microsoft will hopefully show a much more polished Halo and next gen gameplay debuts of announced titles, and Nintendo revealing BOTW2 and Switch Pro

I’m extremely hyped for what’s to come! This is like Christmas for gaming enthusiasts.

switch pro

Switch pro will be the dock with upsampling, some processor on the chip to allow 60fps. With the portable game mode pushed to 720p 30fps and chips in the cartridges just like the super fx chip.
Allowing the older switch install base to continue and Nintendo just to keep making them.
That’s my guess.

Or it comes in two flavours older switch like above with dock adapter and newer with all on the system.

though that’s skirting too close to mega cd/32x madness.

don’t do that Nintendo. Dont do a sega.

Looks like someone doesn't have a switch.

Its been a rough launch for the new generation with multiple delays across the board, luckily we have had BC games to keep us going. Thank gosh I never play ghost of T and days gone or I would be in pain right now! Haha but it looks like we should be getting some good news from the big 3 in the next 6 to 7 weeks.

Looking good!

Drought, you say? I've already bought six games in 2021. If you mean PS5, yes the new console launch has been a bit rough due to covid.

Disjunction
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
Persona 5 Strikers
Bravely Default II
SaGa Frontier Remastered
Nier Replicant

I am also looking forward to several upcoming games supposed to release this year.

Drought? Maybe on PS5 exclusives.

The switch doesn't have the ability to use a dock like an external GPU.

The switch carts don't have any space for an extra chip, nor is the switch designed to read one if there was.

Wow, it's been the opposite of a drought for me - I've played so many great games on PS+ and GamePass in the last few months and all free (at no additional cost).

On Playstation Final Fantasy Remake and Days Gone - both big long games, loved them both. Plus little palette cleansers like Astro's Playroom and Fall Guys.

On Game Pass; Star Wars Squadrons, Zombie Army Dead War, Titanfall 2, Gears 5, Control.

I've recently started Nier Automata and I've got Yakuza 0 cued up to play too.

A game doesn't suddenly become rubbish because it's a year old!

Returnal game of the year contender??

tyson GIF

GOTY contender is probably an exaggeration, but I think it’s fair to say that the games going to review well. Pretty much all the previews I’ve ran into had nothing but praises about the game

i'm not too excited about many games this year.

nier replicant is out but i'll pick that up whenever. other than that...probably only gonna buy halo. most games i'm excited for won't be until 2022 or later.

Not exactly drought for me either, I just checked - beat 12 games this year, some older titles I never had the time for, indies, walking sims... just a lot of gaming on the casual side.
Nothing really mind-blowing but I'm not complaining. Mainly thanks to Game Pass. Returnal drops next Friday, looking great so far, I should be done with it just in time to dive straight into RE8...
Sony is keeping all cards close to their chest getting ready to counter the inevitable E3 Microsoft and Bethesda blowout, hence the radio silence.
Oh and also Elden Ring.
It's all good.

Bought RE Village, might buy Returnal depending on reviews/what people say and ME Legendary edition soon too.
After that comes the FF VII Remake PS5 patch which adds a ton of things and I might play through it again.
F1 2021 is a possibility for me and Kena in August looks like an easy buy.
There are some other good games that might make it into 2021 like Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo and Far Cry 6.

There are still some games left to fill the end of 2021, but I don't know which ones those are yet and as everyone already knows delays are happening everywhere so it is hard to say. Even games that will be announced with a release date this summer probably won't make it this year.
Maybe some surprises, but I don't think Elden Ring, Starfield or BOTW2 will make it in 2021. Same for the Switch Pro. I except all of that in 2022.

The only thing this year really lacks is one or two GIGACHAD games that could easily take this years GOTY, but we are at the very start of a new generation and those games take time. Maybe next year or the year after we will have like 3 of those games each year.

Haven’t felt any drought personally. There have been a lot of games released, sadly ones I liked the most were rushed and broken.

Thanks to BC and next gen free upgrades I've not felt much of a drought honestly.
Since January I played 13 Sentinels, Nioh 2 Remastered, Yakuza Like a Dragon, Control and I've also bought Disco Elysium (and I don't have the time to play it right now).
But yeah with Returnal, Resident Evil 8, Ratchet&Clank, FF7R Intergrade with the new Yuffie Episode things are definetly taking off in terms of new games.
Summer will also have Kena and Ace Attorney Chronicles so many things to look forward to and obviously during the summer showcase events we'll have a clearer picture of what's in store for the end of the year.

There is an eternal drought of good games in series I've waited for since what seems like the dawn of time.

There are droughts of exclusives on certain game platforms.

There is NOT a drought of good games to play, however.

It's been a great year so far - I've been able to finish 8 games from my backlog despite being home with our youngest son. I am in no rush for new games at this point. But I hope Microsoft will give me a reason to buy a Series X later this year.

Can imagine it now.

Sony announce some bangers.

Nintendo announce BOTW2 AKA Game of the Century.

Xbox for the first time in probably nearly 10 years will start to have more, and better exclusives than Sony.

+ biomutant, The Ascent, Shadow Warrior 3, etc etc ...

I'm beyond excited about being excited about releases again. I feel like there haven't nearly been enough, and I know thar there are titles still cooking that we'll find out about soon enough.

I'm really hoping the next couple of months will have some big surprises. Fingers crossed!

Switch pro will be the dock
It is like you don't even know who Nintendo is. Nintendo has never been shy when it comes to rereleasing hardware with minimum changes to fleece us fans. You can bet there will be an upgraded console and "most" new games will be compatible with the older one... ...until they are not.
