Variable refresh rate seems to be needed for ray tracing on consoles then or is 45 fps okay if done with other techniques on consoles?

Annoyingly, they don't list Xbox Series S at 1080p with RT off, I'm going to assume its similar to Xbox One X

Anyway, PS5 at 1080p with RT should also be an option hopefully

Really shows how much more powerful the Series S is than One X despite less FLOPS (I know Zen 2 has higher performance per FLOP) than AMD CPU architecture on XBOne.

45fps with ray tracing probably means 60fps with dips as low as 45fps when the action is packed.
It is the same performance profile of the PS5 Maiden demo which is what I was expecting with the full gameplay in.
They could consider 1440p with ray tracing instead of 4k?
In any case if you want stable 4k/60fps it's basically no ray tracing which is in line with what these consoles can do.

My point is what is the final backbuffer render to the screen. Either it's non-native or it's native. That completely determines the bandwidth limits. If it's true native 4k backbuffers then great. If not, ...
Knowing capcom? Well maybe without raytracing is native 4k. But I doubt they will use any kind of DRR. They are not particularly skilled in tech like this, the 45 fps choice should tell enough.

Yeah surely 1440p 60fps ray tracing on or even 1080p is the best option but maybe no tearing at 45 fps will be okay and especially on the series x with its vrr.

It's uncommon for the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro to share the same resolution/fps output though.

Capcom probably didn't want to spend time optimizing their next-gen Resident Evil game to the previous gen systems. They just made one profile for both and were done with it.

But look at the base consoles from last gen. When was the last time its been like that with fps. If ever.

Maybe Capcom took the XBO profile and called it a day for the One X.

if it is a solid 45fps that is not an issue with VRR. honestly the right choice, but they should offer an option to lock to 30 for people without a VRR screen, or for PS5 players (who knows when the patch comes that enables VRR)
also a 1080p60 mode for Series S should also be the way to go... like... why go for 1440p45fps?

it is weird that they don't seem to offer simply a performance mode for RT... with a lower res... like, that would be the obvious thing to do... weird

45? With VRR that's better than 30 I guess, but without it (which will be the case for most people) a 30 cap would be much better. They should really let you toggle that.

45.. am I missing something.
Very cool for people with VRR displays as the VRR usually engages around ~45ish fps on TVs and Freesync monitors (gsync has a much larger range) Nice to see a developer finally allow the user to benefit from the extra headroom and properly take advantage of VRR.

That being said for people without VRR I hope they add a 30fps cap option. otherwise it's going to look like a mess on those displays

Ah yes, they forgot to mention which console plays Native 4k and which one doesn't, XSX is as fast as PS5? hmmmmm, Sony paid Capcom in full to keep that info hidden, i mean why did PS4/5 get the exclusive demos ??

Believe it or not, I'd take any frame above 30FPS. You will absolutely notice a difference with 15 extra frames/sec.
I agree only if it’s unlocked and 45fps+ is the average, at least for an FPS. John at DF is a weirdo for disagreeing with that most times. Dude probably thinks bayonetta 2 Wii U would be better with a cap lol.

But locked 45fps would be constant, consistent judder and worse than locked 30fps.

Think they should of capped the RT mode at a consistent 30fps.
45fps ,may be higher, but its going to be judder city.

not on a VRR display. an option to lock to 30fps sure, but it's good that it's not the only option!
unlocking the framerate should ALWAYS be an option... sadly it usually isn't

also should *have

Both will very likely use CBR like RE3 on Pro and XBX (same 1620p CBR, about same performance).
