Microsoft Bethesda purchased to be finalized today

Sooo I guess the next two weeks or so will be fun to see unfold. Microsoft making all Bethesda games excluded from PlayStation going forward to be great to keep on their toes.
By the time they release the first exclusive (1? 2? 3 years?)(if they truly stop releasing games on Playstation) , console supply problems should be more than fixed, getting a Xbox to play Bethesda games (and others that aren't on Playstation) will be easy (even a cheap used XSS will do). There is no reason to not play a game you want just because it isn't on the platforms you own.
I bought a ps5 to play DeS and I haven't played any other ps5 game yet (only ps4 ones) and I'm ok with that.
I also bought a Vita just to play Tearaway and Murasaki Baby and sold it after, the time I spent playing and enjoyment I got from it made it worth it.

I don’t understand what you mean?

There’s no conflict of interest.

Anti-consumer? Yes. Literally exactly the same as Sony buying Naughty Dog, Guerrilla and Insomniac though. It’s just the industry.
They weren’t as like heavy hitting before Sony tho but could have been killer third party or MS exclusives. So like now it’s like to save Xbox. So what went wrong last gen? 55 million sales vs 120? After neck to neck? A lot of people hated on the disc debaccle. Couldn’t Bill Gates gave invested billions into games to make more games that are killer system sellerS? So now what? Not do it and take ES when Skyrim and Fallout 76 weren’t really THAT good? Is there like self hate in MS? Are they too corporate? They seemed innovative or loving of games.

There’s some derivate of coi because of Minecraft on playstation or maybe it’s just a huge hit to the multiplatform something.

So they got time to support PS5 and PSVR but won’t be releasing games for Xbox? The logic is lost on me.

People seriously think they paid $7b for 6 months of exclusivity? Are you fucking stupid?
It's not stupid. Claiming that people think about it so simplistically is kind of stupid though.

I don't see all the games ending up on PS, but I will concede that I have no clue whether there is any data that suggests timed exclusives lead to platform adoption and/or bring in enough revenue to justify the move. The market is complex. A significant fraction of PS5 owners have a decent PC and can play the games on gamepass there or buy them outright. Maybe dumping the games on PS5 6-12 months later is a good revenue boost that doesn't harm gamepass adoption and brings in new fans that might get into gamepass later. It is a long game that extends well beyond this console generation.

2-3 years? So there are no games already in production? They starting all games fresh from day one of Microsoft buying them lol

No offense but if a significant fraction of Playstation gamers have a decent PC then this subject wouldn’t be such a big deal. It’s easy to see through that lie now.
I don’t think it makes any sense to complain about PS games on PC either if you have a PC.

Ehm, how is it stupid?

Unlike a lot of their acquisitions Zenimax was in good shape financially, its a profit-generating business. As owners, those profits will be their profits.

So they pay up-front for a business that will eventually pay for it itself, gain control over a load of franchises and assets that they can monetize any way they see fit (not just selling games think about movie rights, merch, etc. ), and they can dictate any future publishing arrangements.

Exclusivity deals aren't cheap, we're talking many millions of dollars saved long-term.

What you need to understand though is that those millions payed for timed-exclusivity are calculated on projected losses incurred to sales for the platform(s) denied access. They aren't just favours, the missing potential income need to be accounted for and covered. This is why going all-exclusive is relatively unlikely, it reepresents a substantial loss of earning potential.

I can't wait until Microsoft just comes out and says most if not all games will be exclusive so people who know nothing about business can stop writing long, confident rants about it.

I'm not saying every game will be exclusive, but damn, there could be a bingo card for the talking points that come up time and time again.

Does Xbox need to release Bethesda games on PlayStation?

No.

Would it potentially hurt their image and future plans if they did?

Yes.

You can get yourself in a twist over "leaving money on the table" and "IT'LL REDUCE THEIR EARNING POTENTIAL!!!", but these are things that have been collectively pulled out of asses and that both Microsoft and Bethesda are probably pretty well aware of entering into a multi-billion dollar deal.

By this logic Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Guerilla games, Polyphony, sucker punch games etc are all going to Xbox because Sony would be leaving money on the table. It‘s a ridiculous notion applied to either company.

Some people discuss this as it is the end of playstation which is not

even if all bethesda games become exclusives other will rise and take this opportunity

nintindo did not die when microsoft purchased Rare

and microsoft did not put the world on fire with Rare

as matter of fact I see this as a chance for customers it will push Sony to be better

either way Microsoft will benefit from Bethesda games released on ps5 or not it is their revenue

Sony allowed it for Minecraft. But if you seriously think Sony would allow Xbox Live over PSN for a AAA game I don't know what to tell you.

Lol what? You still have to connect to PSN

It's no different to how Ubisoft, or EA or Square all require their own accounts.

You don't need to tell me anything since It's clear you don't know what you're talking about

It's not the same. Every person staying on PS is person locked from XBox ecosystem and GamePass.
You're in the Xbox ecosystem by playing Minecraft on PS

PC is also different situation because people playing on PCs will not move to consoles.

It has nothing to do with consoles

The logic doesn't work because Microsoft already has their own storefront and ecosystem on PC where they get 100% of the revenue, but they still decided to put their games on Steam.

No you aren't. Minecraft uses a MS account for matchmaking and access to online Minecraft servers. Playing on the PS doesn't give you access to Xbox achievements or the superior Live social features. And Sony would never allow that as it'd just highlight how lacking the PS5s social stuff is right now.

You have to create an xbox live account to play MC on the PS4. You can tell yourself whatever you'd like but from Microsoft's POV you would now be within the xbox ecosystem the same way Steam users are.

You have no inkling of an idea of what Sony would allow so stop saying that and just say "I hope Sony never allows this so I can keep talking shit about Bethesda games never coming to PS"

How is Steam and PS4 even comparable? Neither MS nor Sony see PC as a large competitive threat, thats why both support Steam (or Epic in Sonys case). You aren't in MS ecosystem on PS4 because you can't buy Game Pass nor can you buy games from their store. This is what Phil had to say about Nintendo Switch support a few months back:

Spencer told me that “it doesn’t feel sustainable” to consider Xbox games on a case by case basis for Switch and said, “In order to really support it, I would want a full Xbox ecosystem somewhere. And that probably means things like Live and Game Pass and stuff.”

So no one really gives a shit what you believe xbox ecosystem really is, Phil doesn't seem to agree with you.

There's a spectrum

Having an xbox live account still puts you in their ecosystem. You're going to be in their statistic report. And if you buy through Steam you're also not in this "full xbox ecosystem"

But anyone that wants to argue about the 30% revenue nonsense i'll just point you towards Steam

You literally have a quote detailing what xbox ecosystem means to the VP of Xbox, there is no reading between the lines here, he obviously wants the full xbox experience on switch which means he would also want it on ps5.

No, he's just telling you what he considers the "full xbox ecosystem" to be, which also isn't what Steam is

If you create, and sign in to Xbox Live, once you've done that, you're in that ecosystem. End of.

Try thinking for yourself a little, yeah?

I'm not sure why people seem to think this purchase will let Bethesda continue to launch on other platforms other than the one Xbox is on
There are a lot of "insiders" here. These people tend to know everything regarding business, merger and economics (after all that's why they have so much time to post here constantly), then chalk it up to "logic" when pressed. Don't waste your time.

Steam is Windows 10. If you are on Windows 10 you have access to the full MS ecosystem including Xbox Live and GamePass.

The Steam games do not, which can also be played on Windows 7, or 8

For Steam to be part of the "full xbox ecosystem" it'd also need Gamepass like EA Play is on Steam now

What part of Windows 10 giving you access to the full ecosystem is hard to understand?

Sea of Thieves requires Win 10.
