Digital Trends: While the PlayStation 5 had immediate appeal, the Xbox Series X feels more and more like the best long-term choice this generation.

I plan on buying a Series X first because I have a base 2013 Xbone and would like a hardware upgrade. But right now, I primarily use my Xbone for backward combability. So I'm arguably stupid for paying $500 to buy a new console to play old games. But I like having the option to play new stuff on a decked out new console. I don't buy much at launch these days, but it will be nice to have the option.

I'll pick the PS5 up for exclusives if they interest me. Right now the only thing that I look at as a "must have" on PS5 would be Days Gone 2.

The wildcard is if new IPs and exclusives start coming out of MS's acquired studies.

All the while they prob have ads the slow down the computer, annoyingly loud videos that you don't want.. maybe even ads that carry a virus.

Also get U Blocker Origins. You'll thank me later.
Cool, I know that with Firefox this is easily circumvented, but I have some issues with it on Big Sur. Normally I use that, but not on laptop for comfy late night browsing.

Look at it this way - if you get the Series X at the end of this generation and then sub for 1 month of GP, you will have access to the entire library of XBox's first party releases this entire gen. So yes, you will get a lot of value with the Series X if you wait....long-term.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Got both and use my Xbox the most. It’s easier to share libraries (don’t need to long on as other person to install game), more support for my TVs features (vrr), the os feels more complete, got a lot more space (extra ssd is easy to get) and game pass is a must if you game at all now a days.

The thing that gets me most excited for ps5 stuff is the controller but after a month dint even notice it any more.

How many games do Sony's first party studios make per year? don't they only develop like 4-6 games a year? I read MS has like 23 studios with 34 teams total within those studios and they plan on acquiring more. I could see Sony having a lack of content problem in the future while MS releases 15-20 games with a Metacritic score of 80 or higher every year if they own like 30 + quality studios. So Xbox could be the better choice in the long. But I dont see sony just staying where they are. I bet Sony will acquire more studios or make more exclusive deals to match MS in content

Anyways just buy both man. This competition is good, PS5 library will probably be as good as PS4. and Xbox will be way better than last gen

Halo Infinite will start things off this fall and then Microsoft will unleash Xbox Studio's games in 2022.

From someone who was completely uninterested in an xbox, these emulators got me tempted to aquire one in the future.

Do these fools know the future, how do they know the future xbox games will be any good, ms lets see the games before we can talk about wether ur consoles are any good. At the moment, I'm unconvinced, have been for the last 9 years or so.

So, all we need to do is wait. Like during last 7 years. Just wait. That's why i've ditched X1 at the somewhere at the end of 2014 - beginning of 2015. It's unbelievable to me how Phil Spencer managed to brainwash his own community and people still blindly follow him and just.....waiting for things all these years

:messenger_tears_of_joy: VALUE :messenger_tears_of_joy:

That's how you know this was purchased. The buzzword got in. I'm not reading that shit, but does it say "pro-consumer" somewhere in it as well?
Value was a Sony buzzword started with the ps2 and ps3 but nice revisionist history. No need to be triggered when others try and borrow it.

Such a weird comment. There's a shit ton of quality games on gamepass, across your console/PC/mobile/tablet and accessible across family gamertags to play simultaneously as well. My son and daughter enjoy gamepass while I do as well.

Pretty shitty comment when you factor in games like these instantly available to you, this is a cherry picked list and not even the full list of ones confirmed for future first/third party releases. There are seriously quality games within gamepass already across multiple devices -
  • ARK
  • Banjo games
  • Batman AK
  • Battlefield games (all)
  • Control
  • Crysis 1, 2 & 3
  • Dead Space games (all)

Lest we forget emulators, XSX is playing PS games like no tomorrow as well. I'll just leave the fact that XSX is playing PS2 games better than PS5 here as well...

Haven’t read the article, but expect to see more and more like it as the generation continues... The value proposition of GamePass is strong, and with the new studios spinning up it’s only going to get better and better...

Gamers win, fanboys lose. Hope Sony puts out some decent exclusives too.

Edit: read the article now, solidly agree with it.

Once flight simulator and halo infinite come out the XSX will have its first big hitters, until then he game pass backlog will have to suffice. If 343 stuff up, Microsoft should just go third party, it would be best for everyone.

As part of the move to a Series X, I upgraded my Game Pass subscription from PC-only to Ultimate. While I’d been fully on board with the service previously, having access to it on both console and PC unlocked its real potential. The added flexibility quickly became an important part of my gaming routine as I flipped between console and PC more than I realized I would. I was able to enjoy Call of the Sea on Series X with gorgeous detail and then flip to my PC to play Halo: The Master Chief Collection with friends without having to shift my audio setup to my couch.

When I unlock an achievement on my Series X, I see the same notification immediately pop up on my PC. If I take a screenshot in-game, I can open the Xbox app on my phone and quickly share it to Twitter without pausing a cutscene. On top of that, I’ve yet to utilize Microsoft’s cloud gaming service, which comes bundled with Game Pass Ultimate. Once it hits iOS next year, I can seriously see a world where I’d play a game on my Series X and take my save file on vacation.

This is his reasoning for making that argument btw. I just dont get it. If you have a PC with gamepass, whats the point of owning an xbox?

Maybe I am going crazy or growing too old to understand this kind of delusional thinking.

Microsoft is not going 3rd party if this fails they will just shut it down and sell off the prices worth anything. If you think a Sony monopoly is best for gamers well lol. Just remember last time they had a virtual monopoly get a second job ect. That was just virtually not a real one.

I have both - series x and PC with 2080 Super. Love playing across the two. It’s a real game changer. More and more on the Series X now though, whereas before I would lean towards PC for the more graphically intensive games...

I disagree with the article but the PS5 having so many issues at launch does help them. That being said, they won't really be competitive until 2022 when their exclusives really kick in.

PC gaming/work PC is in my office. My XSX is in my gaming room. My kids aren't allowed on my PC. I don't want a PC and KB+M in my gaming room or the kids playroom etc. Consoles are simple by comparison and you don't have to tweak drivers and all that other jazz either. My kids have their other devices, which also have GP/Xbox apps too.

Your delusion train of thought is literally answered by their marketing tag - play anywhere, anytime with anyone. You pick and choose what/where/when to play and you're not forced to do what others have as their setups. It's not delusion at all, it's like water in a glass, shapeshifting to suit how people/families want to play.

You could find articles like this at the start of last generation too. It basically boils down to parroting Xbox's PR of the last decade, "just wait a couple years, and Xbox <insert model here> will be the best place to play".
Except it was the opposite the ps4 had shit for a couple of years while Microsoft front loaded the launch. I had a ps4 launch day and it was third party games for a couple of years before Sony got the first party games rolling.

Maybe he gets paid more than you think and he wants a pc in the den and a xsx hooked up to the living room tv??

Sometimes its good for your back to move around, lube up them spinal cord thingies.

Spend $500 for a console that you clearly don’t need to use gamepass when you could just use a PC or your mobile, I don’t see how its of any “value” and “pro consumer”

If I wanted to deal with the hassle of PC gaming no thanks. I have little time as it is. Rather spend it gaming than troubleshooting. I can play the troubleshooting game at work if I'm bored.

The "more time that passes"? The past month and a half? Where only PS5 has actual exclusive "next-gen" games and is outperforming Xbox in most head to heads? There is some weird disconnect here.

That article is so stupidly written I'm a little surprised it got past an editor. Everything in it is basically based on supposition that also assumes the PS5 is not going anywhere. I could not be more disappointed with the XSX currently. I bought the X1 immediately at launch. This one I just had to pass even though I had a reservation at Amazon. I don't see anything coming out for it for years that I might be interested in unless they have surprises up their sleeves. At that point PS5 is going to have exclusives in the double digits and might have a PS5 pro on the way. It feels like it's already over this gen to me. How is Xbox going to catch up without a load of killer software?

Bizarre stuff.

Xbox defenses are always so pathetic. Oh boy achievements carry over from the PC to the Xbox. Who gives a shit. The MS store on PC is awful. I close all the xbox stuff on PC and play steam games on my PC. The less I have to use the xbox stuff on PC the better.

Gamepass does nothing for me. I have Gamepass Ultimate and used if for three things maybe. To try out a game I really was never going to buy(The Outer Worlds), play DLC that I did'nt want to buy and will never now that I've finished it(Hivebusters), and I think to try out Flight Simulator. Oh and Bleeding Edge, another shit game from Ninja Theory.

But I'm not going to wait till they come to gamepass for games I care about. I'm going to buy Final Fantasy XVI, Devil May Cry 6, and so on. I won't wait a year for them to come to Gamepass. By then I would have played them and moved unto the next game. Gamepass only works for MS first party and MS first party is weak right now.

The rest of this article just feels like a big "ok?" to me. It's connected to things I guess....It's all irrelevant. Where are the games? The Series X has hardly been on for me. Maybe I turned it on to continue playing games I could have just played on on the One X just fine. The OS is the same, nothing about it feels like a new console.

PS5 was on for Demon Souls, Spider-man, and even the pretty bad God Fall. PS5 has actual new games I wanted to play. That's what matters and I have more faith in Sony to keep that up, than MS which hardly has proved they can do anything with how the One X fared.

Without Japanese exclusives? Nope.
More like timed exclusives, except Persona and that also may change this gen. AA Japanese games are slowly trickling back from releasing on PS ecosystem too.

We already have Yakuza, DQ and FF on Gamepass.

... "more and more", i don't get it, there isn't a steady drip of exclusives dropping to suggest this? What can an inert system, trailing PS5 in every measure thus far, be somehow automatically catching up to and overtaking the sony machine?

Digital Trends wants MS money or is MS owned.

In the real world, PlayStation has been wiping the floor with Xbox for years both in sales and awards and it's unlikely to change. Nobody even knows what a Xbox is worldwide, it's a non factor.

Now that PS5 performs better while costing $100 less and still has the better games by far and next gen features like haptics, only a few hardcore US fans from the 360 era still want a Xbox instead.

Choosing Xbox is like a self-inflicted wound at this point.

At this moment, xbox is the land of promises, promises that havent been realized since 2013, but it has gamepass, wich is guess is enough for many. i'm still waiting for the glory days to return, like how it was with the OG xbox and the 360.

It's always, "Just wait, it'll get better" when it comes to Xbox. I waited years after purchasing my Xbox One console on launch day and the last few years of the generation it just got worse.

Now I have to wait again for the start of this generation?

At this point, I have zero interest.
