NPD: PlayStation 5 has highest launch month for a hardware platform in U.S. history.

Your saying a video game console launching with no games isn't the issue? It's not supply as I can walk out today and but an s with zero effort in my city. X would be harder though for sure but the numbers are combined.

Dunno where you are, but all consoles are sold out pretty much everywhere. The Series S might be back in stock for like an hour but then it's gone again.

I feel all of you are ignoring the fact that MS said they are not competing against Sony but Google and Facebook. So how many Nest devices google sold eh?

I don’t know if facebook sells stuff...

Numbers are great! Grats to all! Anyone think this year is peak for Switch or goes higher because of Nintendo’s massive amount of games announced and still in development (e.g. BOTW2) ?

They would either need a pro model or a price cut to surpass a crazy year like this for hardware sales. Software sales are going to be huge next year.

So the global pandemic, as well as just affecting Xbox software and not Sony's, is now also just affecting Xbox hardware and not PS5 ?

Have a word.
If it affecting PS5 sales, they sold less than the Switch and people can barely get them. Scalpers have them going 1k

Fanboy refuse to accept it sold less.
I accept that it sold less, but I also can see that if it's sold out...it literally means they could not sell any more than it did even if they tried. What's so hard to understand about this?

I mean it's a story if Series X/S fall behind the One when it isn't completely sold out, I'd give that story another 4 or so months to see if there is anything in it

As for now well.... Microsoft sold everything they could make, hardly doom and gloom
I have heard that XSeS is available on some places of USA too.

But it is definetly available on many european countries, and for series x it took weeks to be sold out on many countries, unlike PS5 which sold out in seconds/minutes.

So yes, story goes that series s+x falls behind xbox one AND is not completely sold out.

I'm pretty sure that it dont sell epic numbers at EU too, while it may be sold out or hard to get for a while (xsex), compared to PS5 which seems to be sold out for next 2-4 months on many areas

the prophecies have come true

but beyond systems wars bs, the past remains the undisputed leader of the villain's of gaming. no greater archenemy have I encountered gain and again as the past which represents a truly hateful treachery which yes the past is perpetually doomed to fall beneth the might of the future but geez does it hold us back into a dark sadness which impairs the inevitable victory of the future and does a profound damage unto my very soul :(

Post a website link right now of the Series S in stock for the USA right now and we'll believe you

What? It has been sold out everywhere dude

And the article that is the foundation of this OP states clearly it is completely sold out

Again let's revisit in 4 months and if they cant sell em when they make em them it's a story right now they have sold everything they have made

Cold War wasn't much of a flop after all. Lack of Sackboy Adventure in the top 20 makes me sad as it is a pretty damn good launch title, hopefully their digital numbers are good enough.

Even with far less units than PS5, Series X was infinitely easier to get if you tried at all. The demand is strong but I doubt it would have been that much higher had systems been plentiful.... probably just a bit over Xbox One.

PS5 is probably close to Switch numbers having the edge in revenue due the $499 model... the $399 model cost the same I believe.

And.

"The Series X|S debuted lower than XB1"

I called that months ago... with the MS marketing situation I couldn't see how they could sell more than XB1 in US.

Yes. MS has supply problems with SX/SS, they started mass production late because rdna2 development ran longer than ps5 and MS wanted the full rdna2 in their next gen systems.

🤷‍♀️

If this is the case, then you should be able to post a link. Not saying you're lying, but this is an easy thing to prove.

They could have sent these unsold units to US because it was only a matter of supply by some here lol

Probably would’ve surpassed Switch if not for supply issues.
If you mean Nov. 2020 Switch sales yes, if you mean Switch launch month sales PS5 outsold it.

Anyone know PS5 worldwide sales numbers?
We don't have the exact numbers, we only know that PS5 had the biggest first 2 weeks worldwide sales for any gaming platform ever (PS4 had the previous record with 2.1M).

Can’t seem to find it. Also anyone know UK launch numbers?
Same again, I think the exact numbers aren't available but we know PS5 had the best selling first 48h sales for any gaming platform ever (PS4 had the previous record with 250k units):
Switch sold more in units... 1.3 million if I'm not wrong.
Ah so we do have actual numbers. So PS5 must've sold over 1.14m units, but below 1.3m. Interesting.
Switch sold exactly 1.35M this November according to Nintendo https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20201210006138/en/

Remember when people were saying that Sony would have 7-10 million consoles at launch?

Also Watch Dogs Legion has more legs than I thought it would though I know it was on sale for $30 for BF.

But you can't even know it would have sold more of the xbone launch, eventually.

IMO the Xbox SS was dumb idea. People getting console day1 would not be interested in a gimped version. This is their strongest market and not making enough console is simply poor management or they din't have high expectations ? Either way pretty embarrassing.

I don’t? Who said that? I remember the 7 million figure was by the end of the year and worldwide.

The people arguing that the sold-out Xbox would've sold more (lmao) if it came with exclusives need to look at this. Demon's Souls is a borderline bomba, especially since these are dollar sales and DeS costs 70 bucks a piece.

Same for PS5... more countries... more stock for every country.
It is seems like a non issue for Sony.

Can you do that easy math please?

It is like the tools? Only affect the Xbox?
Yup.

Series consoles launched in more countries, yet sold less in NA than XBO, 2 sku's this time too. A $299 sku that some ppl said were flying off shelves.

All sold out tho.

Wut?

Seems like MS wasnt ready stock wise. Oh wait, Phil said they waited for AMD tech....that released this year.

But Sony had access to future AMD tech for the Pro, first launched in the Pro, AMD gpus had it 6 months later, the following year....

Wut???

It's good to see that the market is healthy and able to support such high numbers/HW sellouts for all 3 competitors.

That level of uptake and competition are both good for consumers as it should lead to greater investment and drive from all parties to up their game and strive to keep raising the bar rather than resting on their laurels.

People seem to be forgetting Microsoft distributed their systems to more markets globally at launch than Sony did.

Not that it takes away from PS5's strong launch here in America. However, context is always needed and some people are just conveniently forgetting that to gloat or troll or whatever. They're clinging onto consoles sold the same way a lot of them clung onto teraflops up until March.

I don't doubt that. Still does not mean Xbox wouldn't have sold as much as PS5 if their stock availability was equivalent.

If 2 million people wanted and could buy XSX and 4 million wanted and could buy PS5, if both companies had 1.5 million consoles available, they would have sold the same amount of consoles.

You see my logic here?

The Series S is going to sell better than Series X throughout the year for years to come. Xbox don't really have $499 console selling power outside of launch & Christmas Series S is needed
