Returned my Series X today...

Yep. Got a call on Saturday from our local EB games in Melbourne saying my pre order arrived! My wife was at the shops so she picked it up. Was so stocked to get it so early after just missing the initial launch units.

Anyway, issues started straight away. Hooked everything up- external drive, my 1tb expansion drive I purchased for the series x. Turned on the console and just had a black screen. Thought it might’ve been my external drive with all my old games on there so I unplugged it and turned the unit back on. All good. Everything seemed fine.

Turn it back on next morning. Black screen. Funny thing was, I turned on the console through my controller and it turned on, Xbox symbol flashed on my screen then disappeared. Then my controller flashed on and off about 5 times and my console Xbox on/off button did the exact same thing, then it went solid white, flashed the Xbox logo up again and started up.

This continued all day yesterday and so I looked up trouble shooting issues. Turns out my LG CX might have been the issue so it was recommended to turn off AMD freesync and disable 120hz mode and vrr through the console. I did that. Turned it on this morning. All great. Working fine.

Turned it off. Ate lunch. Turned it back on. The fucking black screen straight after the logo. I changed hdmi ports. Nothing. Turned off the console. Unplugged everything from the wall and from behind the console. Turned it back on. Again, Xbox logo then black screen. Tried it again after that. Black screen. Finally on the 5th attempt it started up. I got it, deleted all my stuff off the console, called the store and refunded it.

So very disappointed. Really loved it whilst it was working. Ultra quiet. Games looked great in 4K. Loading was vastly improved. Just can’t believe I got a console that was stuffed.

Just here to vent. I’ll wait until they either get stock in that I can buy from the shelf so if there’s another fault I can swap straight over OR, I’ll wait for a revision of the series x. Or until the get some exclusives.

Mine does this exact same thing. Turn it on, initial Xbox symbol shows, then black screen. I hold the power button down, it turns off. Wait three seconds, turn it on and it works...

Sometimes the light will flash, sometimes not

It's flaky as shit. I'm hoping it just needs a firmware update but MS still havent pushed one out

Not really happy with it at all.

That sucks.

I know people say to expect some issues with launch hardware but I imagine its really disappointing to get excited for launch day and then have your hardware fuck you.

When does your PS5 arrive?

I read that some people are having this issue with the expansion card installed. It seems like instant on may not work properly with it.

I just don't get it... how do (launch) consoles suffer these many issues every time these days?
There aren't anymore issues for the PS5/XSX than there usually are for a console launch(Excluding 360). The fact that stuff gets tweeted constantly and picked up on blogs and tech sites doesn't equate to mass problems. Even if you saw a 100 or 300 videos of PS5s/XSX's having issues it still wouldn't mean anything. It's a drop in the bucket.

i had issues with mine too. only had it for 4 days.

was happily playing it then out of no where it shut down. smelled burning coming out it. console wouldn't turn back on. the power button was flashing but the fans weren't spinning. took about 10 minutes before i could get it to go back on but it went downhill from there. the bluetooth/controller kept disconnecting every few minutes. wifi completely died. HDMI kept losing connection too so the screen would flicker on + off and there were colourful artifacts flashing across the screen.

got a refund and just sticking to PC gaming. i'll get a console when there are hardware revisions in a few years.

Fair enough. Social media is weird in how it alters our perceptions based on the squeaky wheel principle.

Those PC parts never fail. Good tactic.

I feel for you OP. We wait a long time for the new gen and to have it not work when we finally get it is awful, especially in these covid times. Luckily I have had zero issues with my PS5 so far (*knocks wood*) it's been like a dream though the UI takes some getting used to.

The question in this case is if it's a real issue with the console or the TV. The LG CX is known for having a broken HDMI 2.1 support. It is only possible to transmit 40 GBit/s, instead of the specified 48 GBit/s. Only the ZX, Nano 99, Nano 97 and Nano 95 models support the full HDMI 2.1 specification with 48 GBit/s.

And even LG has created a Troubleshooting Guide: https://lgcommunity.us.com/discussion/15285/lg-troubleshooting-guide-xbox-4k-120hz

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately it's a risk that early adopters have to take with today's consoles. They have become very complex machines and many components can get faulty.

What have we learned again never buy a console at launch

How many millions of Series X and PS5 sold and all of the faulty ones have ended up being GAF members?

The 10-15 million (combined, where released in the world) machines sold, less than maybe 0.1% failure rate because everyone else is playing on their machines and don’t need to take to twitter every 2 mins trying to score freebies or likes.

Do people just spend the day going through hashtags on Twitter and then be like ‘oh here you go here’s yet ANOTHER one that’s broken’ ?

Edit: guessing on figures. Might be more sold, might be less.

The XSX won't boot the first time you start it in 4K 120Hz 12 bit colour, so I don't think that's the problem if there is no signal after the boot (unless the TV itself is faulty of course).

Source: I have a 65CX and an XSX in front of me.

ooof I have fortunately never experienced this anguish of getting a hard to get item only for it to be faulty but I can really feel you on this.

What made you want to return rather than get anouther from xbox's warranty out of intrest?

How do you know that approximately 15 million units were sold have you numbers show me the receipts if not your assuming that without any proof
You really think there was a huge demand for the consoles I think thatvaswell but the demand and the shortages were artificially the constraint aswell only made up to fool gullible people and here are many of that sort

Did you see my very last sentence.

The point I was trying to make really was my third sentence.

They don't make then like they used to. I rarely use it anymore, but my day 1 original XBox still works without issues. I know there's that blown capacitor problem but haven't ran into it yet. Even if it does happen, oh well considering it's 20 years later.

Say 1% of people have problems. If each console sold 1 million thats 20000 squeaky wheels. The internet always makes things seem worse. Both of my consoles have been great so far and I even jostle them around in book bags daily.

If you have a day 1 OG Xbox it's just a matter of time before caps fail unless you just don't use it.

How do you fit a PS5 in a book bag?

Certainly some of it can be accounted for ironing out production issues.

As for the other....how would a post go over about my Series X? Runs as stated. Quiet. Plugged in logo comes up. When I go to play games it....plays games.

Sucks for OP. It does. Glad he got his money back. In tye age of YouTube and social media these issues seem ever more frequent. In reality the squeaky wheel gets the oil. While unfortunate, people experiencing XSX and PS5 issues are still in the minority.

In today’s age of social media issues are going to seem more prevalent because the people with the issues will always be the loudest. Not that there is a problem with that but it should never be taken as a product having serious issues.

Take iPhones for example. Millions of phones sold without issues but people will go on the web and be like “it’s all over the internet”. Even thousands of phones are a small percentage

I don’t think he was necessarily saying that PC parts done fail. The way I took it was he plays on PC and decided to grab a console and it ended up not working properly so he’s returning to PC only for awhile.
