DF - Assassin's Creed Valhalla: PS5 vs Xbox Series X/ Series S Next-Gen Comparison!

Not a good look for Microsoft and their marketing.

"Valhalla plays best on Xbox" their social media team was preaching out just before launch. I wonder how they feel now?

I knew the power narrative would come back and bite them in the ass. And honestly, they deserve it, they haven't exactly done the humble approach with the Series X and it can't even deliver when it counts.

Indeed. They have focused so much on hardware power that now it's totally backfiring since they have not delivered.
And they don't have much else going for them since first party games are not there, they don't have innovative features in the controller or in the UI.

Well this has been quite a twist!

If PS5 holds the multiplatform advantage going forward (on balance, that is - I'm sure they will trade blows depending on the game), then I don't see what selling point Microsoft even has any more. Other than maybe gamepass and more generations of BC. Yay, I guess.

It's looking like there will not be the generally consistent advantage one platform had over the other in the previous gen (which got flipped when pro/one-x refreshes came out). I think this is good news for the industry, but pretty terrible news for Microsoft.

Their one ace is turning out to be a joker.

It was what was meant to cover their embarrassing launch title situation - best for multiplats.

But PS5 outperforming it across the board was not what they were expecting.

We've been told, "same games but at 1080p or 1440p".

*Jennifer Lawrence ok*

I told VFXVeteran VFXVeteran that this was going to happen. But he threw his industry credentials at me and said I was wrong. That sense the XSS had the same SSD and similar CPU as the XSX, that it'll just be a resolution different only. Looks who's wrong now.

This is interesting. I bought my SX as mostly a third party machine and to play future first party MS games. I thought it would have a slight edge like many here. I don't hold any dying loyalty to either company, so if this trend continues I will move my third party purchases over to my PS5. I always buy all the consoles, so if my SX ends up getting less use then I originally thought it's not a big deal. MS has made a lot of good moves over the last few years, so it is a bit of a head scratcher if they end up underperforming the PS5 and why they didn't have exclusives ready for launch.

I'll have to keep an eye on things to see if the trend continues. Right now I am debating if I should move my Cyberpunk preorder from XB over to PS.

I will say I am currently playing AC on SX and haven't had any issues. The game looks great.

Why play great when you can play 25% GREATER?

I don't notice much difference until someone sticks graphs under the footage, already bought the XB version and I have 25 hours on it. I'd rather continue to have fun with it then trading it in and rebuying it on another platform. :p

But as I said, it gives me something to keep an eye on for future purchases. Right now it is looking like PS may be better going forward for third party stuff if the current trend continues.

One curious thing is that neither console can reach 4K. I think dynamic resolution will be used very often throughout this generation. Maybe they can come with better upscaling algorithms in the future.
Because of 60fps. Drop it to 30 and its 4k locked and loaded.

Genuine question:
Why do people seem to hate Alex? As far as i know, he never fanboyed about Xbox, he is mostly a PC guy, isn't he?

Well hate is a strong word but I lol’d at him after the Halo Infinite demo.

I mean, everyone could see it looked rough and so we waited for DF to give us the gory details. Alex first said he was tired so he didn’t do any analysis for a couple of days.

By then people were already saying to delay it and MS was fire fighting hard - “we thought this is what fans wanted!”

Then Alex put out his analysis which basically went - “this may look bad now, but just add RT and this will look great!” Didn’t look at any of the stuff that was obviously subpar. Bear in mind that for the prior PS gameplay reveal they’d gone to microscopic detail to analyse the performance and content.

So after that people started to question his integrity (and indeed the whole of DF).

15% of $500 is $75.
Xbox needs to reduce the price of the console to $425.
Either that or get this sorted out. I plan to make Xbox my 3rd party home and this is disappointing.

Keep those plans flexible as the sample size grows. (+ the DualSense support)

As expected. Currently playing the game on Series X right now and it echoes my experience with the game. Thankfully, I have a LG CX with VRR so the tearing are non-existent and the drops in FPS are much less obtrusive, but the frame-pacing issues during cut-scenes are still very perceptible and annoying. It's not only the one cut-scene at the beginning of the game that does this. You also have another 60 fps in-game cut-scene when claiming your first settlement in England where it's very apparent. I bet many more are affected too.

If I didn't have a VRR display though, I'd be very upset with all that tearing. Currently the game is fine with VRR display, but Ubisoft will most likely try to eliminate the tearing in the Series X version, probably by diminishing the minimum resolution, which will solve the issue for most but downgrade the experience for people with VRR display.

It's disappointing to say the least.

Also, one thing I've noticed. Alex claims that the PS5 can perform up to 15% better than its Series X counterpart. But there is a moment in their video comparison where you can clearly see the Series X maintaining 47 fps while the PS5 is holding its 60 fps target. At this moment, the PS5 is performing nearly 28% better than the Series X (60/47=1.27659).

I own both consoles. I was expecting to purchase multi-platform games on Series X due to the collective perception of the console having better specs. But if this trend continues, I'll need to find a decent SSD storage extension upgrade for my PS5 because it won't just be home for exclusives

I am not too sure about that. Since he says "at its worst, we noted PS5 delivering a 15 per cent performance advantage over its Microsoft equivalent in identical scenarios"

So, in that identical scenario the performance advantage is greater than 25%. Since he mentions at its worst, that is the worst I have seen.

But yeah I am not a native English speaker, so I may be taking this too literally.

Your understanding of English is great. And you are correct. Alex should have said, "in some scenes, the PS5 performs 15% better, but up to 25% better in others".

After all these comparisons I have come to the conclusion that it has nothing to do with Xbox being weaker than PS5.

The thing is that it is not underperforming due to textures or effects or bigger crowds or whatever. It literally lacks optimization as these arbitrary FPS drops are basically the thing that has been plaguing PC gaming for decades and is ususally fixed via patches. So I think XSX will be fine. So basically it is GDK issue.

well. here we go. a lot of people in denial were waiting for the DF's comparison. so consider the case is closed, right right?
Let me say, it's just secondary if on the article they point out for the whole time how it's problematic or bugged is it on Xbox platform?

For the people that bought into the muliplat bullshit performance better on the xbox spin, the good news is you still have receipts and it's law that you are allowed to return your product for a refund within 30 days. "lollipop_disappointed:

I tried to warn them that something was fishy (No disrespect) when they did not want to show Xbox Series X gameplay until after people buy the Xbox Series X

I can totally see Microsoft abandoning Series S after 5 years and focusing on Series X and Pro console going forward. Series S cannot even run demanding current gen games at 60fps at 1080p.
In 5 years I hope we are starting the next-gen talk... PS6.

Well from my side you def come across as Green, like 80% to maybe 20%. i have no idea why you think your 50/50 that is just not true at least from an outsiders view point.

giphy-downsized-large.gif

So because I said I expect Xbox to have better mutli plats and was wrong that makes me not 50/50? Come off it man. You have been here what? Little over a year? I worked in this industry for 5 years and have been here for close to 5. You dont know my history and you dont know my preferences. Believe whatever you want to believe. But this painting of people based on the little exposure you have to them like you are in prison is beyond stupid.
