It stings not having a showcase exclusive at launch. David absolutely correct. But to be fair to Phil, lets not pretend Halo wasn't aiming to launch with it. I gotta believe it wasn't an easy decision to delay it. Would love to be a fly on the wall when that meeting took place.

If Phil Spencer blocks David Jaffe for much needed valid criticism, imagine working under Phil. I bet nobody has every spoken like that to Phil and someone has needed to for years. When nobody ever questions you then you are free to continually make mistakes and steer something off course. Leaders are not above criticism or questioning.

I‘m sure it’s a wide open forum at Microsoft where you can freely criticize and question Phil’s leadership and he’s always looking to improve and be better and there would be no retaliation whatsoever.

They knew this console was coming for years, they knew they had to have a big hitter at launch, they knew that big hitter had to be Halo. I don’t know what happened, but a good leader would make sure that game was ready and that studio were able to produce the best game they possibly could and on time. Nobody at MS saw Infinite before the debut and thought that it was unimpressive? I don’t believe that.

Edit: If Sony didn’t have Demon’s Souls, I‘d have no reason to buy a PS5 right now, but they thought ahead and delivered. Sony has everyone covered for launch; the hardcore (Demon’s Souls), the mainstream (Miles Morales), and the kids (Astro’s Playroom and Sackboy), and the third-parties clean up any stragglers.

Loved his rant and totally agree. Just like last generation, I got XSX, turned it on, browsed around the same old UI, downloaded a few last gen games, got impressed with the load times and high framerate and then turned the console off at the end of launch day. Have not looked back.

PS5 on the other hand, I took time off from work so I can spend more time with the console. Exploring the new UI, the new launch games. The amazing new tech in Dual Sense. There was so much and it feels like a next gen console.

Terrible, terrible decision making and product management. And I thought this time around, they will get this right...

They could AT LEAST have Flight Simulator 2020 at launch and people could spend hours and hours on that game and they didn't even do that..

I'm just gonna be blunt, to stoke the ego that is jaffe's thick skull. Halo, even the 343 ones. Are more fun and enjoyable than either Twisted Metal and the GOW series.

Well Jaffe is right. If you're in charge of a bajillion dollar company and just flubbed the launch game of what is ostensibly your most famous franchise, then you might want to spend some of that acquisition money acquiring project managers and other insiders at Sony to see where you can improve.

How do the Sony teams interact with each other and share information or technology?
How do they approach project management?

Nobody loses if Microsoft is able to regularly fill their release schedule with quality first party titles like Sony does. It helps Gamepass and helps gaming in general.
Think like Apple launching the new iPhone without the app to make calls or save your contacts.

Did they need first party launch games to show off the console? It sold out within hours. You can't walk in to a shop and buy the console, and you won't be able to until some time early next year. That to me says they didn't need to, at all.

Series x sold out in weeks and series s is still available.

If I would state this it would be as true as your statement.

Because it is pointless to not to say the country, unless it is sold out globally like PS5 is. Xbox sells well on USA, rest of the world is different deal

At the end of the day it's all pretty simple.

If Xbox disappeared nothing would happen to Microsoft.

If PlayStation disappears, Sony would feel the hurt big time.

Listen, I love the original Xbox and Xbox 360, but at the end of the day, they just don't have it in them to produce killer first-party games. I don't see that changing, so Microsoft says fuck it and spend a shit ton of money on Bethesda and become the Netflix of gaming. Only a company with as much money as Microsoft can piss into the wind like this. Seems to be doing alright for them so far.

I can't believe how a supposedly serious CEO has blocked a professional developer especially one of Jaffe's caliber (even if i never liked any of his games, sorry David Jaffe :p).

Good guy Phil is starting to show that he's not the all-loving good guy he pretends to be in the end of the day lol.

Whilst I understand your point, I don’t entirely disagree either, it’s pretty disappointing a brand that personally, I believe has massive potential, isn’t meeting it and the closing it came to that was during the Xbox 360 years pre Mattrick, Kinect and despite RROD. It just needs the right team, with vision, foresight of the industry it’s in and a much better grasp of quality control. Basically I believe it can be fantastic as a platform, far better than it is now, it needs the people to execute it. (Far easier said than done admittedly)

When they get it right I firmly believe they do it as good as any platform, they don’t nail it enough for me and as much as I’m a fan, I’m not a fan of executive worship or putting them on a pedestal like he is (Spencer)by some regardless of a good subscription service.

The guy has the most fake smile I already see in the industry and you thought he was good?

He is good to anything you want to hear at that moment... it being true or not.

Phil Spencer's entire persona is theater.
The guys a total politician. Says a lot without saying anything. Placates people. Spins propaganda.

He thought he had gamers wrapped around his finger, ready to believe anything, unveiling Halo infinite as the next coming. Turns out the fans had their limits.

I hold no Ill will towards gamers on any platform. But hold no qualms in pointing out industry figurehead shortcomings.

True dat.

Problem being they've had they're entire existence to figure this out. I do believe they'll have a much better first-party lineup this generation. Its possible much of that may be attributed to Bethesda down the line considering their output but we'll see.

I agree he is a politician, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's part of his job. Of that was all he was it would be an issue, but he has also delivered with Game Pass and had grown XGS threefold in a short period of time. Still doing a good job by any account.

I'm just saying what his cheerleaders always say about him.
Of course i never believed that image not even for a second. To me he looks like that salesman who will knock at your door and try to tell you the most beautiful things that you want to hear in order to sell you his products. But hey i'm not a fan of Ryan either.

It's cute to see another Xbox thread made by and filled with Sony fans, but the reality is that without Phil Spencer, more than probably the Xbox brand wouldn't even exist anymore.

Obviously there's plenty of people here who would be rapt if the brand stopped it's existence, some even have said it publicly and claim that the space of MS should be taken by whatever other big multinational (Google has made quite the entrance in the console market).

But for people who actually care about the brand, Phil still has credit and some of his movements are unequivocally in the good direction. Of course we all wanted next gen games in the launch window of the Xbox Series X, but the fact is that Phil had to fought for the survival of the brand during the Xbox One fiasco, had to rethink and change the entire direction of the Xbox brand and had to invest heavily in it's vision, a vision that should come to fruition in the mid-long term but that has already made the Xbox Series X the best sold MS console at launch.

The Halo Infinite fiasco is the result of having to change so abruptly your path. You needed a big franchise to sell the new console in it's launch, but the reality is that the game was being made years ago for the previous console, that console that was so underpowered and that almost made the brand dissapear.

If I was in Phil's position, I would have probably launched the game anyway and call it a day, a little more time of development isn't going to change how the game looks in a substantial way anyway. But it's hardly his fault that the game looks like how it looks.

Phil has bought a lot of studios, let's wait to see what fruits they give before we kill the man. Or the brand.

You don't think your bias is coloring your view of things? It's a thread about Phil blocking Jaffe and why we think it might be, Jaffe himself has talked up things like Gamepass and how he expects SONY to be dethroned from the top position by the likes of Microsoft under Phil's leadership. But with all of that information you just see it as a thread about how XBOX is bad and SONY fans are here to laugh? There are people here using the thread for that, it does exist, but the important thing is how you see it and you seem to have made it clear you see the thread in a certain light that not everyone else sees it in.

I don't really care about that.

Phil got hurt because Jaffe mocked him and used foul language to talk about him and that's why he blocked Jaffe on Twitter? Seems that's what happened.

But that event doesn't seem really important, at least to me.

If you believe that my message was a criticism of Jaffe, then I have to say that that's not the case.

But with all of that information you just see it as a thread about how XBOX is bad and SONY fans are here to laugh?

Yes?

It's pretty much what most of the thread is: mostly Sony fans insulting and mocking the head of Xbox.

There are people here using the thread for that, it does exist, but the important thing is how you see it and you seem to have made it clear you see the thread in a certain light that not everyone else sees it in.

I guess maybe there is some actual content worth reading in the thread, but somehow it's buried between dozens of posts of insults and mocking.

There are also posts insulting and mocking Jaffe even though he's RIGHT HERE to see it, hah. Imagine if Phil was a GAFer? I think it's fine you take issue with the things you do I just took issue with the framing of the entire thread as being something negative to XBOX or part of the console wars, Jaffe himself thinks console wars are for 11 year olds so anyone furthering such wars in his name doesn't have his blessing.

Halo Infinite was not developed as a launch title for Series X/S, it was just a Xbox One game that's taken a long time to develop so then they aimed to get it out for the new console launch and then do a Series X patch for it post launch. It didn't look impressive for a native next gen exclusive *because it isn't one*. It's a game that's been built around a 1.4TF Jaguar CPU 5400rpm HDD console while aiming for 60fps with an open world, and it would then run via BC on the X/S with higher resolution and better framerate thanks to the brute force of the new consoles. They even announced that the Series X patch that adds ray tracing would be coming post launch.

Infinite was never meant to be a launch title for a new console. It was meant to be a late gen xbox one game.

I just don't understand people saying sony knocked it out of the park by remastering a PS3 game, while also not giving MS props for having a dozen XB1 games ported to the new system with massive improvements.

It's not that I care about ps vs xbox (despite what I previously said in this thread) it's that jaffe is going all about this thing like a massive dick, "I made this video antagonizing xbox, hur now ol phill blocked my ass" wtf was jaffe's thought process behind this dumb shit, it feels like 4th grade school bully levels of immaturity. is it because jaffe is going though an cliffy b kind of mid-life crisis?

Bruh, imagine if another well known game creator from the 90s acted in an similar manner, only on an equally as petty level. lol

The Fucking MAN.

He blocked me because I said a helicopter was a bad idea for a car combat game.

Then on stream a few weeks ago he said the biggest regret he had for twisted metal 2012 was putting a helicopter in the game.

Good one.

Which do you think is more likely?

A-That I literally blocked you for saying a copter in Twisted Metal was a bad idea?

B-I blocked you because of the way you chose to express that specific idea?

If Halo: Infinite wasn’t meant for Series X, then they effectively had nothing to offer for the launch of their new console. They‘re selling a PC with proprietary memory cards.

343 seems to be having issues and so does the Xbox division. If they’ve had since the Xbox One (not the One X) to work on this game, then they missed previous gen, they missed mid-generation, and then they missed next-gen. Something is terribly wrong over at Xbox and they need to clean house again.

To try and dismiss a remake of a fan favorite, genre-defining game, and what would be the spark that lit From Software’s future on fire, by the best studio to do it, as “remastering a PS3” is disingenuous. That’s just the hardcore fans covered. They also launched Spiderman: Miles Morales, Sackboy, and Astro’s Playroom preloaded on the console. As I said above, they covered all consumer bases and Demon’s Souls was a game you can only get on PS5.

Sony has reasons to buy their console because they have great games you can’t get anywhere else and on top of that, they have third-party support. This isn’t Sony’s best lauch at all, but comparatively, Microsoft didn’t even show up. It’s not that they’re not capable, but something’s off over there. This is launch number two in a row they fucked up. I’m a Sony fan and won’t buy an Xbox, but it doesn’t make me happy to see potential wasted.

Is it possible that Phil didn't do this directly and instead imported some kind of stupid industry blocklist someone else put together?

Yet it sold out straight away, so they did pretty well wouldn't you think? MS aren't expecting any consoles on store shelves til potentially Q2 next year.

343i is not "Xbox". "Xbox" doesn't need to clean house. 343i have clearly been given too much rope, and we can see they're now being pulled back into line and cleaned up. You seem to forget that 343i made Halo 5 this generation too, and MCC. They didn't only work on Infinite.

Demon's Souls is a remaster of a PS3 game. That's not debatable. It's the PS3 gameplay and level design and literally everything else, just with better graphics added.

Yes they launched Spider-Man etc.......but they also launched them on the PS4. You don't need a PS5 to play them. Demon's Souls can be played on PS3 and PC, the graphics will just be different.

Xbox launched with almost as many next gen exclusive games as Sony did - zero on MS's side, 1 on Sonys. Neither were great. MS had a dozen big updates to XB1 games that would classify as remasters in any other generation, they had the big AAA multiplatform games that will sell the best, and they sold every console they manufactured. They didn't need new first party games, clearly.
