I did not want to be that guy but this is a worry now.

That quote is not good, not good at all.

I see someone made a post about it in the main forums but for some reason it got closed down.

http://www.tweaktown.com

But unlike those blatant lies this is not Fud this is actual reports that have confirmed videos +repies with people discussing, it not your usual bullshit sources like Deal, eastwood, timdog, that blue fucking idiot, pidgeon boy etc.

Why is this stuff getting shut down.

Because no problems have been reported? :messenger_beaming:

Computers create heat, that heat gets dissipated. How the heat moves out of the unit controls how noticeable it is to you. The XSX design is going to radiate heat through the case (every side of the case has direct contact with one hot component or another), it's possible the system moves a lot of hot air out the top as well. It's only an issue if the system is overheating. This is similar to all the nonsense surrounding the PS4 slim on release, where people were convinced it wasn't a stable product because the case was a lot hotter than the original model (all kinds of crazy stories about units unable to run, etc.), but we know that has been a stable unit.

With that said, would be nice if they had an option in the settings to switch to a more aggressive fan curve. Personally, I hate the curves on all the new GPUs and it sounds like XSX is following that trend, which is to allow temps to scale high before upping fan speed (probably because of the increased max temp on these new chips).

People are discussing things from actual videos from people that have actually played on the console.

ITs not some random dazzle conjured up from the nether regions of Phil spencers arse.

These things are true, that is why people want to discuss it.

For some reason xbox fans want to shut it down

Agreed, and considering how compact the Xbox is inside, how densely packed everything is, its bound to get hot. PS5 seems if anything like an over precaution towards cooling. Huge box, lots of vents, lots of room inside for all the hot internals. Airflow was clearly key in the design. They even built that base into the design to ensure the console has some airflow space below the console even when "laid flat" but actually floating/lifted.

Will be fascinating to see that teardown.

It's an interesting situation going on in the image shown above. On one hand, there is a MASSIVE heatsink strapped on in the image. There's a lot of room for that airflow in the design at first glance. It looks like all the airflow will cool the base of system, the heatsink, and whatever is closest to the surface below the heatsink with all the heat being forced out of the top. The components inside are packed in pretty closely together.

I'm wondering whether people are noting that heat pouring out of the top of the system as an issue. MY PC has a super spacious tower with basic liquid cooling, but it can and does spew heat out of the back under heavy load, and that's with far more space in the case.

I would love it if someone who has one of these systems at home, points a FLIR gun at one and videos the system running.

What is true exactly? Are these individuals saying that the console is breaking due to heat, or just that it radiates some heat? I've only seen the former, which is kind of a no brainer to begin with (other than the twitter girl that doesn't appear to actually have a unit). Have people forgotten how much heat the PS3 generated, yet it was still a reliable unit overall.

Sony’s philosophy for Ps5 very much seems to be the same they had for Ps4. IE: “we’re not going to make the same mistakes again”.

The Pro is unacceptably loud. Some folks have been lucky enough to have units that have stayed quiet, but for most it’s become ludicrously noisy. Definitely the worst thing about the console. I’m very glad they’re taking such a huge effort to avoid the same thing this time around.

Jez Corden? That Jez Cordon who spread rumors about PS5 "overheating" based off of a Youtube Comment made by a known anti Sony "fanboy". That Jez Cordon who paints his room in fucking red?

I mean, he has an Xbox Series X, so he's pretty qualified to talk about how an Xbox Series X performs.

Yes, Jeff said that, bu he surely implied that XSX is hot. Also regarding Giantbomb guy, saying again he showed with his hand the whole XSX is hot at 29:15 ( not just SSD and slot ) with additional comment by another podcaster " it's a preproduction unit ".

He didn't imply that at all, only to people like you searching for negative things to talk about with Xbox.

As for Giantbomb Jeff, he was talking about the SSD. If you want to say he means the full console, I invite you to make a thread about it and see what happens.

Without comparing them in any other way, the PS5 design is sorta the same as the OG XB1. Big and divisive in it's design, with the sole purpose of cooling without noise.

they are saying the consoles are very hot, are they lying>? no they are not.

Are people not allowed to discuss things just cos some xbox people feel it hurts there narrative a bit.

This is a speculation thread, why is it you who gets to decide if people are allowed to talk about stuff or not?

If it offends you then read something else. I feel i get along with you reasonably well, but this is not a safe space specially designed for you.

Are you now saying anything negative or that does not paint the xbox in a positive light is not allowed to be showed?

I seriously hope not but from where i am sitting it sounds like that's what your trying to say.

Who said consoles was breaking due to heat?
I think the talk is the console generation enough heat that it made people concern after PR said it was suppose to run cool.
Don't be spreading FUD so early in the morning.

Yes, Jeff Grubb implied to that XSX is hot, but nothing to worry about. Hence the question was about is XSX hot. Giantbomb guy talked about SSD, yes. Later he showed with hand saying whole thing is hot following with additional comment from other podcaster " it's a preproduction unit".

I think the design conversation about the Ps5 was essentially this:

”Make it big so we can keep it cool!”

”Right! A big box it is then!”

”Ugh.... boring. Can we make it look like a futuristic clam shell got fucked by a HR Giger painting?”

”Are you high?”

”Absolutely.”

He didn't imply it was hot, not at all. He said nothing to worry about, which could actually mean literally nothing to worry about, but he can't talk about it.

Giantbomb podcast never said those words, you're misquoting based on FUD you've read online.

Again, if you think he talked about the console then make a thread.

The upcoming Pulse 3D wireless headset has been engineered to take full advantage of PS5’s 3D Audio capabilities (check out a new image above). With a refined design, dual noise-cancelling microphones, and an array of easy-access controls, the Pulse 3D wireless headset offers a seamless experience for both the PS5 and PS4.
On the PS5, you’ll be able to experience 3D Audio with the headphones that many of you already own, either through USB connection to the console, or by plugging your headphones into the DualSense wireless controller’s 3.5mm headset jack.

We’re also in the process of working on virtual surround sound through speakers that are built into TVs. Although TV speaker virtual surround sound won’t be available on launch day for PS5, it’s still a feature we are extremely excited about, and our engineers are hard at work on bringing it to PS5 in the future.

Some of the PS5 games with 3D Audio features include Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Astro’s Playroom, Gran Turismo 7, Returnal, Destruction AllStars, Demon’s Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Horizon Forbidden West, Resident Evil Village, and many others.

I don't see the heat coming out the box as a problem in of itself but we all know knucklehead users will place the unit in an enclosed space horizontally and probably with the exhaust holes butted up against the side leading to the inevitable shutdowns/overheating.

Both of these consoles are packing serious TF and CPU power at high clocks so there will be heat and that is better expelled out than allowed to build-up inside. It just needs placing in an appropriate place.

On the other hand we have the impressions from the Japanese influencers stating PS5 ran silently and the air coming out it was cool even in a hot room. I'm taking that with a pinch of salt for now until someone independent like Gamers Nexus get their unrestricted hands-on with it and test the hell out it and gut the thing like its sircaw.

Having said all that it is still a little concerning that many of these no doubt giddy influencers while under NDA (another separate issue that irks me...) still disclose it is getting toasty.

It's concern in both case.
Here an over-interpretation of vague enough impressions to jump to conclusions.
it's different method to do it , one is not worst than the other and both are bad ether way (imo).

Yeah they definitely could have just made the box bigger to give everything more room to breath.

Its a normal cooling setup for a console from the looks of it. Big fan, big heatsink, (I assume normal) thermal paste on the die, etc... but its very densely packed together.

No where for all that heat to go but out the top. The holes on the bottom seem more designed for air intake then exhaust.

I agree on all fronts. The new consoles are powerhouses in small, tight form factors. Anyone planning to stuff them inside a small cabinet is bound to have a bad time. Hot air leaving a console is not a bad sign, it's a sign that the cooling system is working.

That said, I'm very interested in seeing actual measurable numbers in a month. Let's hope we're not seeing any red or yellow lights this generation.

Any bigger, and Stanley Kubrick would have been making science fiction movies about it.

I frankly don’t know why they didn’t just continue the design philosophy from One X. They clearly don’t care about making anything other than a big black box, so quite why they decided to make the Series X a big fat column is beyond me. It’s not going to be easy to fit into existing tv stands. Is porting air out the top really that important?

Ps5 may be a divisive design, but it’ll fit under my tv.

Sony proudly created the first console design with labia. Diversity and representation is important to many nowadays.

this is me thinking about this subject for coming gen
SmartSoggyAlbertosaurus-size_restricted.gif

in theory nothing bad will happen because of 7th gen experience and feedback but those box are ambitious from a thermal perspective.
It could backfire.

hot air go top , cool air go bottom
on paper taking air from bottom spilling it from top is the most efficient way to do it.

Exactly this. Microsoft got burned with the RR0D on the 360, and for sure that wasn't going to happen again with the OG XB1. The size/design was conservative to ensure no repeat.

They yoinked the trash can Mac Pro design. It’s probably going to run hot as well, especially if they’re determined to make it quiet.

Both companies clearly designed systems to

1. Allow for max airflow and cooling
2. Be stood up vertically / not shoved in a cramped space
3. Stand out & get memed

DF showed that Xbox has the XSX devkits which are just boring rectangle boxes like the One X but bigger, so they clearly didn't want that look anymore.

I think the days of TV furniture / entertainment centers are fading. Gone are the days of dumb TVs hooked up to a TV cable box, a VHS/DVD player, a console, and inevitably some other box. Only thing I plug into my TV is my PS4. My friend the other day was saying how nice it is that she doesn't even need anything plugged into her smart TV cause all she does is stream from its apps. Many will end up with just a console plugged into their TV, maybe 2. Even the traditonal 5.1 surround setup has been replaced in the mainstream by soundbars.

I think these consoles will look and run best when just stood up on a table and given plenty of room and air to breath. Like how Sony had that PS5 for their Japanese hands on demo. Kinda like gaming PCs on a desk, but just next to a TV instead of a monitor.

Do you idiots know that all the electricity you supply to your console gets converted to thermal energy ? 😂
You're the idiot here it seems. The question is about heat dissipation. Some of the energy is converted to kinetic for the mechanical components, but a console being hot to touch means you have pockets of heat not being properly dissipated.

Yes, ideally you want the air coming out to be hot if it means you're intake is cold air to keep the circulation. The console itself is not supposed to be hot to touch though, which seems to be the issue here

Yet even with the console powered off, Series X stills dissipate heat from that top vent, owing to its optional "always on" mode, and I learned that by resting the gamepad on the venting array overnight, then picking up the controller and feeling that it was warm (not hot) 10 hours after I'd powered the console down.

The Xbox staff have had these machines running for almost a year now. They clearly would have flagged up any issues with heat in that time. You are all worrying about nothing.

weird. The source of the article is not available. Can’t find anything where the retailer actually says this.
Did someone find a source for this?

The UK’s largest electrical retailer recorded record-breaking sales for the recent PlayStation 5 (PS5) pre-order, as the coveted console sold out in just 10 minutes and recorded nearly 90,000 more pre-registrations than Xbox.

Currys PC World’s new research reveals that nine in 10 (88 per cent) of existing PlayStation owners, and 68 per cent of existing Xbox owners have.

the links is in the twitter, when click on it

Most people talk about the new SSDs or PS5 SSD but what I understood that the SSDs will always get faster in future, on the other hand the heavily custom flash control on PS5 actual is the key here "secret sauce". and that what was Andrea Pessino was talking about back in March. also rumours saying the PS5 GPU is DRNA 3 OR have some features take it with " grain of salt".

"PlayStation 5 is one of the most revolutionary, inspired home consoles ever designed"

rumours saying the PS5 GPU is DRNA 3

No question. something to be looked at. I'm only concerned if the silicone is ridiculously hot. I have no concern about whether or not the system is cool-touch or whatever, it's not a toaster I won't be touching it on a regular basis. LOL

Like I said, a fan mode in system settings would be a nice touch, let people that don't care about the unit being whisper quiet to turn things up a bit if they prefer.

Firstly I must say that I would be very surprised if MS got this slightly wrong in the end. On the other hand one could argue that PS got it a bit wrong with the PS4 so...

The challenges (that both are of course possible to overcome with enough fan power) with the design are two:

1) The cramped space increase air-flow resistance or in other words you need more fan power to achieve the same volumetric displacement of air compared to a more open design.
2) One of the key things you want to achieve is highly turbulent air flow over your hottest areas (such as heatsinks). Turbulent flow is the same thing with regard to cooling in hardware as the 'wind effect' you feel outside as a person. Turbulent flow becomes harder with a linear equation that is proportional to the diameter of air filled space. Given the dimensions inside the XSX this will also require an increase in fan power to achieve.

So net-net the design needs an increase in fan power to actually achieve the same cooling as a more open system. I just cannot see how MS would get this a bit wrong. That the exhaust air is as warm as it seemingly is means that the cooling settings in the prototypes (and it seems the fan is not pushed hard at all) is sub-optimal, i.e. that the inside air in the case is fairly close to equilibrium with the heatsink when idle.

No, you can launch the download from the store with any web browser (I did it several times). Of course the PS4 needs to be in standy by to receive the command to download a game.
Well yeah that's what I said....Was my post not clear?I'm not mocking you but english not being my native language sometimes I feel like being clear when I am not.
