My friend told my that Zenimax being bought by MS was kept secret, and Sony probably didn't know before us. God imagine those talks. They wanted to buy Starfield exclusivity and MS bought whole company right in front of them. I really think that wise people (not Jim) has now reevaluating strategy. Xbox has been greenlighted to waste huge amount of money just to look more pro consumer with free "smart delivery" - its free even if its only higher fps and resolutions ( spiderman remaster is much more than that thats why you need to pay for it ).

In short term own PS mistakes has more impact than Zenimax being taken by MS. But clearly zenimax was important part of 3party Sony strategy - we are getting two timed exclusives from them and they wanted to secure Starfield.

So MS really will keep PS in check this generation. And that's good for us. Worst case scenario we would also buy XSX in 2023. But strong competition will make Sony better for free.
Who's your friend?

I don’t subscribe in the philosophy that consolidation is competition. All it does is green light the purchasing of publishers.

Cool. The point is any game Sony publishes is 1st party. They treat them all the same. Doesn't matter if its God of War or Bloodborne. Both are Sony 1st party games. They just don't own From Software. But they own Bloodborne, same as God of War.

Thats why you'll see PlayStation Studios logo for all games Sony publishes. They're all 1st party PS5 games.

Sony will use the PS Studios logo on all 1st party PS5 games as a seal of quality, building brand trust with buyers. Doesn't matter if its Destruction Allstars, Demon's Souls, or Miles Morales. All the same logo on the box. They don't want to communicate to buyers "we own or don't own this developer" they want to communicate to the buyer "this is a PlayStation game." Thats the point of the logo, the branding, and the idea of 1st party vs 3rd party.

If you use the term 2nd party, I obviously understand what you mean, but its a distinction without a difference for how the game is treated and made, really.

Agree and understand that Logo represent the entire PlayStation studios and assured their customers that the game has top notch quality and it is controlled, supported and supervised by the internal studios. That's why Demon souls has involvement of japan Studios, 3rd party dev blue point is hired by the sony and it's under supervision and support of japan studio.

Competition is good for consumers but monopolizing is bad. Making exclusives games for their hardware is good Competition but buy out the whole 3rd party publisher is just bad for the industry and consumers.

So it's official 🤔

When you compare to the upcoming 980 pro you realize M$ is actually ripping you. This proprietary nonsense is super anti-consumer.

It doesn't just look more pro consumer, it is and I don't care who pays for it as long as it isn't me.

I have an X1S, X1X and have a XSS and XSX on order, I will get four different versions for the price of one, unheard of. You really believe that the differences between the X1S and XSX versions are just going to be framerate and resolution? Look at DF comparisons between X1S and X1X versions and you will see thats not true at all, you're just downplaying the situation.

It's a great feature and it's best just to admit it.

I reporting what I was told. Xbox had more console in retailers world wide then Sony did when pre orders started. Why GameStop only had so many pre store I can’t say. World wide how console allocation went I do not know. Just told Xbox had more consoles. I could see Xbox having more in North America and other popular countries they do well in. While Sony had more in Europe and other places. But I have been told by more then one person Xbox had more consoles total. I can’t wait for launch and see how thing brake down. Because I know I’m Asia and Europe I can see PS5 doing 2:1 ratio to Xbox.
I highly doubt it. I don't believe one second MS has higher production capabilities.

For those interested a german tech magazine already tested the Samsung 980 Pro. Conclusion in all synthetic benchmarks it reached the or got better results as advertised. Real world file transfer for 390 GB Steam files were 1,27GB/s in writing and 1,33GB/s reading . Peak was 1,9GB/s in writing and when files are copied within the drive it was 1,2GB/s.

Analyst expects PS5 and Xbox Series to sell 1.5m each in North America this year

Baird Equity Research's Colin Sebastian says demand strong for next-gen consoles with PS5 selling at a slightly higher premium on auction sites
"Overall, demand continues to look strong and with the sales mix favoring the premium versions of both consoles, in line with our expectations, and we think supportive of an ongoing constructive view of the interactive entertainment sector," Sebastian wrote.

Those Samsung 980 real world speeds are very interesting. Makes me think back to the Cerny presentation when he was talking about bottlenecks and their custom flash controller. I hope we see some loading tests from the PS5 soon to see if the dream of 100x faster truly has been fully realized. If we see 1sec loading times for unpatched games like Metro Exodus or The Witcher 3 i will be absolutely amazed.

how that would be compatible with PS5 with much lower read speeds?

You wont see 1 sec. A game running is more then just loading, some code will need to be executed, maybe even behind the scenes online checkins. However the Sony architecture sure is bypassing a lot of the legacy guff, so should be optimal.

Sony designed their entire expansion setup around these PC M.2 drives, that can hit 7 GB/s reads with PCIe Gen4x4. That 980 Pro drive from Samsung is exactly that.

If it doesn't work and can't run PS5 games, then Sony will have wasted hundreds of millions of dollars building expansion bays inside every PS5 that can only use PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 drives. I doubt they made such a huge mistake. It should work out fine.

if not then it means that would be impossible to have data just for 1 second of gameplay in RAM or stream data behind the player. meaning Cerny was lying which i highly doubt.
hmmm i think we need new information so where is the PS5 tear down video ? they pretty much revealed everything

PS : I'm not calling him Liar because i know his name isn't Cerny Layn

You would think people would tell him to go easy with the dirt throwing the whole time since this isn't a good look for the brand.
He is not throwing dirt, he is just saying that equal strategies did not work in the past and that even Sony themself thought about doing the same but decided against it.
Throwing dirt looks different. But of course it makes more clicks to have a more dramatic headline

Man can't wait for the SSDs Threads part 2

We are all dying to see how they both compare.

You don't need a teardown to judge which I/O is better. Just look at what each system is doing with the games. In my opinion the PS5 has given us the most impressive I/O demos at this point.

I talked with Slovakian friend about how difficult it were to pre-order PS5 here&there, and said that series x/s is still available

And he says it is the BIGGEST retailer there

As you see they still have series x available to get on launch and only around 770 sold total and 110 units today, so it is still there

Same here at Finland, still available for launch. But PS5 orders go to january-march/2021

I guess doing things better than last time didnt really matter on EU, if this is the case on other countries too.

Not trying to start a war, just think it is interesting how much slower xbox sells even after all the game pass hype.

Tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but Jim Ryan is an asshat. Losing Shaun Layden has been a real blow to Sony. If Microsoft do make a big comeback this generation, Ryan's idiocy will be at the heart of it.
