Marvels Avengers: Spiderman to be Exclusive to the Playstation version [Confirmed]

I'm sure that game that everyone on here has been saying was garbage will all of a sudden now be holding it up as a classic that is better on PS4 lol.

“Stuff I am making up for $200 Alex”... yet we have noticed the inverse quite clearly with NMS... as soon as it landed on the other console the game could be given a chance by some of the crowd that called it an unredeemable scam (there seemed to be an overlap between some of the hardcore Hello Games haters and console warriors too).

I'm curious to know how Sony "owning" spiderman actually works.

They got in early and for a decent price before Marvel took off like it did. This were during the age where comic book sales weren't really cutting it anymore so they needed to make some cash with an IP that would keep them alive. Sony took them up on that.

I think Sony may have actually managed to purchase most of the rights for Spiderman. Or someone overlooked something on a contract.

QFT.

When the game got released on Xbox One, a bunch of people here who were always calling it a scam, suddenly decided to "give it a chance". Suddenly, garbage turned to gold.

Sony obviously felt the need to keep Spiderman a console exclusive. I wonder if there's a different for marvel ultimate alliance on switch.

I understand the frustration for other platforms without a doubt, but the same people complaining about this exclusivity are only too happy when the shoe is on the other foot.

No mans sky was a *much* different game by the time it released on Xbox, to be fair. When it released it was a scam, one of the biggest con jobs in gaming history tbh. All those 60fps videos of the "playstation" version, only for the game to release at 30fps and looking *nothing* like all the pre-release footage.

I just downloaded it via gamepass the other day actually, haven't played yet.

While I have no doubt there definitely were people doing what you're saying, they're not exactly the same situation.

Are they? I detest money-hatted exclusivity on all platforms.

I guess Sony didn't have any control over Spidey's appearance in Ultimate Alliance 3 - maybe because the video game deal was made afterwards, during the re-negotiation of Spidey's state in the MCU. At that time Ultimate Alliance 3 was already in development. even released as far as I remember.

Once publishing has been signed, it's more work to reverse it, to the point of it being much easier to just let the whole thing go through.

Completely anti-consumer, old school bully Sony behaviour

You know MS isn't pro-consumer as well, right? Welcome to the gaming industry: it's about $$$, not about being friendly to the consumer.

Dont give a shit about Spidey. If MS takes Batman Id be a happy man.

Even if MS would buy WB Games, they'd never be able to release an IP like BATMAN exclusively on one console, you know that, right?
That's another kind of deal, you can't compare it to the deal between Marvel and Sony that also includes movie rights.

I see everyone compaining about the Spiderman move (yes its a jerk move) but is this game even interesting at this point?
After seeing the Iron man gameplay i lost all interest in the game, does it still look clunky is the gameplay fine tuned it really looked like crap.
If i'm buying it will be PS4 but i'm more interested in te state of the game itself.

This is a whole other level. I get that you buy exclusive games. I don't get that you buy parts of a game, that doesn't make sense. Even the developer and publisher are wrong in this case.

Isn't Spider-Man a post-launch DLC? So XBox and PS owners basically get the same game at launch, but later content upgrades are different, right?
Still not a great pratice. But it's not like you're getting a different game at launch.
I wouldn't be surprised to see some other stuff coming to the Xbox versions exclusively (especially after the backlash from some gamers).

And buying several third party studios, turning all their upcoming games to exclusive releases is basically the same level.
Want to play this game? Well, now you've got to buy a Xbox or a PC.
Want to play as Spidey? Well, now you've got to buy a PS.

Sony is obviously trying to associate the worlds most popular Superhero with the Playstation brand. I guess they are throwing tons of money around for this.

While I say "fuck Sony", in reality it is "fuck Marvel and SE" for accepting/offering such a deal. They don't care about the fans. Sony actually isn't to blame, it is a smart business decision. But yeah, this sucks.

Most fans are on ps4/5 so they actually do care about them. I think it's a sign for any of the few remaining xbox fans to jump ship and join the dark side. And when you're over here demand that MS release their games on ps5 and be pro consumer.

Doesn't make any sense. Are we suggesting it's better for Sony to buy out the Avengers game from Square and not having it release on the Xbox One/Series X? The hell? Pretty sure the better alternative is this one.

If MS gets mauled in sales this coming gen it's going to be brutal to watch. We already got stats from Capcom/Square showing where their userbase is. If the Xbox crowd shrinks even further... boy...

If PC port beggers were a nuisance this gen I can only imagine adding the disaffected Xbox crowd to the mix.

i didn't complained and asked for the content ...
i will vote with my wallet and comment about it. Is that forbidden ?
I'm never happy when content is moneyhatted full game or part of it...

Don't mind that... I disagree with it but you're free to it. And when you want to make a statement, you do vote with your wallet. Best weapon we have.

This 'anti consumer' thing has gone too far. The games industry is not and cannot be some equitable paradise by itself - it is part of the prevailing global economic system. It's perfectly ok to hold companies to account when they use truly unfair practices, but this ostenisbly is not one of them. This is simply a company who have invested in an IP then looking to leverage a return on that investment. To not do so would be insanity.

Microsoft had deals Like this for years. Remember when the consoles Launched in 2013, Xbox Players would be the only ones that had access to the Legends Cards in FIFA Ultimate Team. And these cards contained the highest rated players. They did this for the next 2-3 installments of FIFA until they switched their Marketing Partner which made it available for everyone. So its not like this is new for them or something they wouldnt do.

Just had a read of the xbox thread on LOLchartz. Holy shit they're having a breakdown, on one hand giving out about Sony deals while on the other praying MS get WB. Full on panic mode about how xbox will compete next year and the year after. You'd think they'd realise by now that their platform of choice can't compete with PlayStation.

Ridiculous response. Faux outrage.

This shouldn't even register with you or anybody who isn't getting a PS5. It's made all the more grating by the fact that the lot of you have been praying for MS to buy WB.

Well, and now they're are buying several studios and turning their upcoming games to exclusives.
And paying other companies to turn their newest game into a "console launch exclusive".

This isn't better, I hope you know that. Just another part of a terrible practice that MS, Sony and several other companies are using.

That exclusive part of the game went until september 2017. So almost 3 years ago. FIFA 17 was the last one, which in my eyes was even worse, since they were microtransaction. PC and PS players paid the same price every time the bought packs, but had less players to get.

It doesn't surprise me that you don't understand this. Your true colours have been shown quite clearly the past few weeks. If you don't understand that you are buying exclusive parts of a game is wrong, then whatever, you do you. Pretty sure Xbox/PC users will have to pay the same price for the game as PS users, but don't get the same content.

But Spidey is post-launch DLC.
So Xbox and PS users pay the same price for the same amount of content at launch, right?

It's a free DLC. I currently seems as if they were planning to put Spider-Man in for free in the future, but now Sony paid to get a free DLC exclusively on their platform.

KyoZz

Tag, you're it.
So it's not only looking like a shitty game, it also use some shitty practice. I will try the beta on PC but I don't old my breath, and clearly I don't want to buy a game that uses this kind of practice.
Oh and I do have a PS4 (Spider-Man Limited Edition haha, funny with the situation...) so don't bring your childish war with me.

Do you know that for sure? If Sony has some kind of deal to use Spidey exclusively on their platform (for example due to the movie deal that allowed Marvel to use him in the MCU), they have every right to do so.
They invested in the movie rights, this is their big pay-off. That's business.

MS would act the same way and you know that. But they didn't invest in superhero movie rights ages ago, so they don't have this kind of power.

My true colors are showing? What is the point in saying this? I wear them in plain sight, just like you. It doesn't mean we can't have an intelligent conversation about things.

Your reasoning is brittle. By definition if you are buying a game on one platform, you're getting a different version. The argument simply has no merit whatsoever.

Arguing that having an exclusive character is worse than timed exclusivity is insane, sorry.

This is stupid. I could somehow understand if it was the Spider-Man from the PS4 game but not if it isn't. I wouldn't buy this if I had Xbox One. I have PS4.

You're absolutely right.
But hoping that the other company will grab another beloved superhero and make his upcoming games exclusive to their console is counter-productive. This shows people are not against the practice itself, but are just furious their preferred console didn't get this kind of deal.

I'm curious to know how Sony "owning" spiderman actually works.

Sony owns the license to exclusively produce and distribute movies about Spider-Man as well as his associated characters and that bars any other company - including Disney/ Marvel Studios - from producing and distributing live action television series about him as well as his associated characters (but that requires them to receive permission from Disney/ Marvel Studios if they want to do so themselves). They maintain this license in perpetuity as long as they release a movie about Spider-Man and/ or his associated characters every five years.

In regard to video games, Sony made an agreement with Disney/ Marvel Studios for the exclusive right to make a series of games about Spider-Man as well as his associated characters for PlayStation (i.e. Marvel's Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales and any sequels). In exchange for this right, they allowed Marvel Studios/ Disney to extend their inclusion of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for the game that this thread concerns, I'm assuming that exclusive inclusion of Spider-Man as well as his associated characters was part of the aforementioned deal or that Sony made another deal with Disney/ Marvel Studios pertaining to Spider-Man and his associated characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in exchange for exclusive inclusion of Spider-Man in the PlayStation versions of the game.

Its kind of stupid that possibly the most popular hero is exclusive for one console. I hope we don't see something like this again in the future. Imagine if Superman was exclusive character in a Justice League game.

Anyone that thinks that Sony didn't use their "ownership" of the movie rights to spider man as leverage to get him in games exclusively when they want to is crazy. Of course they did.
Definitely lmao. It's nature of the beast.

I'm waaay more interested in the mythical "DC suicide squad game from the rocksteady".

I was very excited about marvel diablolike mmo on ps4 (forgot the name), but it's died almost instantly after the late butchered port was finally released lol

Avengers? Bah, has AA f2p mediocrity written all over it. Late purchase from me. Veeeery late purchase. Like a year probably. Spidey or not. I don't believe they will do him justice anyway.

Isnt it six months later? I mean there’s a hell of a difference between ‘six months’ and ‘never’. And don’t forget that Tetris Effect itself was already exclusive to Sony for 2 Years.
There is a hell of a difference in a playable character and an entire game mode too. Point is, if I take this just a tad more serious, is these companies (all three of them) only care about getting our dollars and are willing to make deals to get them. Fanatical hatred or defense for any of them goes well beyond silly.

As I said earlier numbnuts, it’s off a ResetEra thread where the VP of Marketing for Enhance posts the reason.

And I quoted what he said.
What if it's between The Tetris Company and MS? Still wierd that they would remove remote play now. What contract does it violate all of a sudden?

Sony is paying for Xbox and PC players to get less content for the exact same amount of money on a game they can buy the exact same day. That’s in no way comparable to a game being exclusive.

PS fans don’t have to pay 60$ to not get the medium. PC and Xbox fans will have to pay 60$ for the honor of not getting Spidey.
