Maybe so, but no one dials back Shadow settings to "Low" because its more true to life. They crank it up because their hardware can handle it.

It started before that.
DF had the audacity to say that they believed that Github leaks showing a 36CU GPU for the PS5 to be correct.
They laced it by saying that the leaks lacked context, which they were 100% correct about.
The Sony fanboys here would not hear of it, and so DF became MS shills from that day on.

It's funny that Cerny didn't follow through with his promise to talk to Leadbetter. Cerny can see through the bullshit.

Why do you guys keep inventing starting points for these things? It's like pretty much always been a factor with them but if you wanted to talk about things that made it explode it would be stuff like getting exclusive coverage of Xbox consoles and the idea ran rampant that they went soft on XBOX exclusives because they wanted to always get those exclusive in-depth looks. Not justifying the idea that they're biased but it didn't start with them talking about the GitHub leak.

The DF GitHub video is the reason Demigod went rabid and chased John out of GAF, but the Sony super fans were bitching, moaning and calling them shills long before that even. The problem was in the 1X vs PS4Pro comparisons the 1X almost always came out better to much better (see RDR2) which of course meant they were Xbox fanboys. TLW regularly used write essays condemning DF and their comparison videos.

Would just like you guys to consider that sites and people that say things you don't want to hear, aren't necessarily against you, or in the tank for the competitor.
Console war culture is (and I will use this unironically for once) incredibly toxic, bubbled, and has a way of making you see things that aren't there.
If DF has a bias, it's towards raw computational ability, to an absurd, autistic extent. It's easy to read into that a console bias, but... it's not. Look at the years of DF videos ripping the original Xbox One a new... One? Lol. Even recently, they've constantly gone after it for not keeping up.
That's not to say the PS5, a wonderful, cutting-edge console, is anything like the base Xbox One, but to show that DF has been consistent in praise for the best specs, regardless of logo.

I've honestly never found issue with their comparison videos. The stuff that interested me was the more nebulous questions that are harder to answer like "did they go softer on gears 5 than they did god of war 2018?" I don't get melting down over the comparison vids when if it's the same game running better on one platform than another there's really no debate on it usually. But even then you can just watch other people who do the same analyses and if the conclusions generally align what is there to do?
I think the thing with this issue is you've got...
people who legitimately want their side to win and the other to fail at all costs
people who legitimately believe the thing they wasted money on is better and need confirmation bias to help that idea
people who know DF is being honest but don't like it because they have an emotional/financial/bizarre stake in a big corporation
people who are legit concerned DF could have slight bias coloring things, the soft sort of bias games journalism is known for that usually comes down to advertising money influencing viewpoints
people who are legit concerned the individual members of DF don't always take a strictly objective approach to their breakdowns and let their biases bleed through
people who are legit concerned DF don't always do as good a job at analyzing one game as they do another but don't see an inherent bias in that
people who appreciate DF's general positivity
people who don't appreciate how positive DF is and want more critical analysis
I feel like most arguments are geared towards the more unreasonable people in this thread and it reminds me a bit of political discussions, when it's right vs left it's always going to be talk about the fringe extremists at either end, in this case people who believe DF's word is the word of God and cannot be questioned vs people who think DF sit in a pool of MSoft shill money laughing at the poor saps who believe them when really those fringe extremist views should simply be discounted from the argument entirely because they leave no room for conversation

I'll never understand people criticizing DF for doing 100/200/400% zooms to show differences when that is literally the point of their videos. Like do you go to watch an unboxing video and then criticize them for unboxing said thing?
If you don't want to watch an in depth analysis that goes down to the minute details then maybe don't watch videos that exist to do exactly that.

People that think them showing the game from a dev machine means that the "development has been troubled" don't know what they're talking about. 90% of trailers and pre-recorded "gameplay" segments are recorded from dev machines, which are PCs.
There's not some conspiracy here where they're using SLI 2080tis with an i9 CPU to show graphics above what the console can do, or the Series X is vaporware or having problems working - it's literally running the game on the machine that it is made on, which virtualizes the specs of the console the game will be running on, and capturing it from there. It's not in *any* way indicative of there being problems.

Who the hell is gushing over Craig? Halo's cartoonish art style was a blessing in the beginning and now is a curse. But the game has always been about representing dynamic battle between forces. Zooming in on a single character and showing its flaws is a worthless critique in my opinion. Because that frame is going to represent a few seconds of the overall product.
