The ads finally were removed from the Xbox 360 dashboard

Yeah I just noticed this a few days ago. I'm trying to clear my 360 backlog, lolz 😂

But yeah, they are still dumb for not putting the game front and center. I play the console for the games... not for a reminder about Xbox Live Gold and all that garbage.

Thankfully, there’s a system for those who want ads popping up, and it’s the Xbox One.
They pop up now? This is amazing what tech does these days :messenger_loudly_crying:
Big Xbox gold advert in the middle
I think advertising your own products and services is OK, but it it taking a ton of place... shouldn't the ads be on one of those smaller tiles at the very least out of your way.

Lol, yeah I noticed the dashboard was looking really empty the other day, thought maybe the connection wasn't working right but everything checked out. No more ads for games that came out 10 years ago.

...they bombard you with ads in your own console OS?
They do it. Also in PS4, as soon as you go to the store, it is all an add (New, featureed, recommended...), the only way to see the games that are out with no bias is going to the list of all games. Same for Xbox One

The 360s best days are over. The least they could do is patch in the blades and leave the dozens of us that just want to play games alone.

I know this is a petty attempt to make a joke, but why would they do that?
Because there has been precedent: The most prominent example is Nintendo closing the Wii Shop. I'm not saying it's gonna happen tomorrow, but very old digital catalogues are just going to be phased-out eventually.

This is incredibly shitty and you are all idiots to tolerate it.

With the lack of bc Nintendo has no reason to have it anymore. Xbox is forever bc as we know so it will be available for a long time. Anyone thinking otherwise has boomer mentality.

I saw this tagged retro and thought about it for a second. More time has passed between today and the 360 launch than between the SNES launch and 360 launch. Damn I feel old all of a sudden.

We're not even talking BC here. We can always buy an used console 20-30 years down the like but we won't be able to play the Wiiware exclusives, having to resort to emulation or even piracy for preservation.

It is naive to think Xbox or any other company will have forever BC, I'll believe it when I don't need an Xbox 360 to play most of my library because they're not even BC on XBO.

The reason why not every game works on Xbox One was because it was an afterthought. There's really no reason not to support it suddenly.

I bought my whole Xbox One library on digital, and I dont lay up at night with the fear of a game disappearing. Have been all digital on pc since steam in two decades, and have never lost a digital game.

Fair enough. Only time will tell.

The only reason the Wii shop died was because Gamespy died. Nintendo kept servicing the NES well into the 00s for example.

They should just open up the system, but probably they will not do that since BC...

To be fair piracy has always been a big part of preservation. Back in the day the Atari ST had copy protection on the disks for instance but guys like automation, dbug and pompey pirates made copiable versions - the vast majority of the available disk images these days are those pirated versions while the original disks are often unusable after 30 years. The images can be written to a real floppy drive to use on a real ST if you can find a pc floppy drive and some disks.

To be honest the risk of losing content has never been higher with all the cancelling going on right now.

I can't see many xbox 360's or higher gen consoles surviving that long.

The reason not every 360 game works on Xbox one is because they are not running off the disk as all. They download a version with a new executable and the disc is just the key if you don't have the digital version. That new executable means it's legally a new version of the game so distribution, licensing and publishing have to be agreed.

Not only that but games that need dedicated controllers won't be supported because those controllers are incompatible with the Xbox one.

So while it is technically possible for all games that just have standard controller support to be made playable on the Xbox One, legally it's very hard/impossible in many cases.
