I'm proud of being straight, but I'm not going to bother making a fuss about getting a pride flag in a game...

But I get your point.

you are sure about that ?
your avatar is pretty gay

like 11 out of 10 on the Ricky Martin scale

Well, that's what makes it silly. This idea of diversity while not including everyone. But yeah, the focus should be on the damn game and having fun while playing it, not who does what where and with who after the match. All it's going to do is exacerbate the feeling of being a minority for these people. The media tries to make it seem like everyone is gay or gender fluid these days but it's actually a tiny fraction of the population (between 4.5 and 12 million according to polls -- less than the number of illegal aliens in the country). Gallup found most Americans overestimate the size of these groups, partly because Hollywood does -- they found that around 9 percent of shows and movies feature a character from these groups, which is doubly disproportionate to the population. It's also going to make it so they are targets to the larger group, which is going to take even more emphasis away from playing the game; we're going to have people harassing people and then those people tattling on those people and it's going to turn into second grade all over again.

It's a bad idea all around. They should just said to play the fucking game and afterwards everyone go fuck who they want to.

And yours is...

...I don't even know what your avatar is supposed to be.

The accessibility piece is pretty cool, I have to say. The other bit... Just another example of a dev shoehorning 'diversity' into a game, instead of incorporating it naturally and in a way that makes sense.

Guess that's fine? What I don't get is that this online/gaming LGBTQ culture is such stark contrast to real life gay people. We have two gay men in our team and also two gay men and a bisexual woman in our extended circle and none of those people go around announcing their sexual orientation with symbols or tokens (csd on the side).

So true. Irl i have a friend who transitioned. He was super messed up before, and a terrible boyfriend for his dating partner (boyfriend of a friend), which is how i met him. I never knew he was conflicted until he saved up a bunch of cash and went through the procedure. She is way happier now, but still quite messed up...and tbh, kinda hot lol.

Back to the point, irl interactions amongst people you actually know are so different. I think it comes down to the fact that we are hairless apes that evolved to live in groups of absolutely no more than 100 people, and you can only really know 30 people well before our brains stop working. So anyome beyond that, just becomes this abstracted thing, or group of things. Then you pile on all the bullshit of civilisation (clock time, hourly work, no community, exploitative corporation mediating our social connections, etcetcetc) and you get this shit storm of political conflict.

But sit down around a coffee table with people who are not legitimately clinically ill or toxic (sociopaths, bpd, psychopaths, narcissists), and no one is going to punch anyone or start yelling or banning or whatever.

Feels like one of those people on Twitter who have the obnoxiously long, sniff my own farts, they/them bios just so they can let everyone know how "important" they are.

Just don't understand why people think it's so important to tell others what they do with their genitalia.

Also, on an unrelated note, I thought pride was supposed to be a month of celebration? So far it seems to have been every fucking month this year, at what point does it start losing its purpose?

All I am going to think if I see one of these flags being used in the game is that this person makes their sexuality their entire identity, even when playing a game.

I honestly think it's these flamboyant gay people with the whole "fuck you" attitude that ruin it for all the normal gay people that aren't shouting from the rooftops about their sexuality and who just get on with life like heterosexual people do.

I don't mind the game having a pride flag, I just think it's pointless virtue signalling personally, if they had a "I am straight flag" I wouldn't use it as my banner, as a matter of fact, I would think it's pretty fucking cringe.

The disability features are fantastic though, great work in that regard.

It feels like shallow pandering, it's no big deal but it's so transparent, especially when Gears of all franchises needs to get rid of the "toxic masculinity" to prove a point about morals, it's just dumb woke marketing/posturing. It's especially meaningless when most of those those flags don't even have historical relevance, they were made, on a whim mind you, to validate personality traits and fashion trends turned into indentity qualifiers, those flags are just as shallow, and that's what they decide to base their diversity campaign on, wether it's right or wrong, it's just pathetic.

so you are telling me that a game with this "female" protagonist has some woke agenda? mildshock.gif

Yeah i knew something was off when they made her more masculine. She looks different than her gears 4 model.

Also, the fact that JD is sidelined and the heroes of the story are a black man and native American woman perhaps reveal the agenda. You've got a white tough guy named Fahz who is an asshat.

Maybe I'm looking into it too much, but I feel conditioned to see this stuff nowadays.

Seeing this thread beneath the "Gears combat lacks weight and intensity" thread has me scratching my chin, did they re-assign the combat designer to gender flag duty or something?

I believe the Xbox team cares about gays just as much as Trump did when he walked around with the rainbow flag. It’s sad that this lazy shit is enough for people in the LGBT community to celebrate. I really don’t see the purpose in letting the Gears 5 community know I’m gay, I’m there to play the game and that’s it.

Its things like this that make me less interested in games.

I play games to escape reality, not be reminded of it. I get so much politically correct shit in my every day life I am sick of it and I play games to see other realities and get away from what I am tired of, not get more of it.

That's why I like fiction, because it isnt real. I can see other people and worlds and scenarios that have nothing to do with my reality. So when I am playing a game where you fight monsters and so on the last thing I want is to see a gay pride banner.

But the worst part of this and what truly makes me lose interest in games such as this is it all feels like some forced agenda. An attempt at making people happy and trying to please the masses. They are riding the coat tails of some hot topics and popular trends and trying to cash in on what cool right now. I won't support that mentality.

That's why I love aliens, the great and secret show, no man's sky, metal gear solid 3, God of war, or jaws. I love those things because there is no political correctness, no politics, no need to force in strong women, no agendas, nothing at all to do with our reality. It's all interesting alternate universes with interesting characters and stories. I get to forget the shit I deal with every day and I get to see someone else's imagination come to life.

So fuck gears of war 5 and fuck all the developers and publishers that try and shoe horn in bullshit for the sake of trying to appeal to the masses.

Well, they did make one of the white straight guys who helped save the world a dozen times seem like a heartless prick which seems pretty damn inorganic. More narrative pushing BS from Microsoft.

Gay pride is an interesting one for me. I'm not sure how it is in other countries but where I'm from you kinda have to understand sometimes it's hard to meet people like yourself so a weekend of gay activities usually brings out other gay lads so from that point of view it's nice.

LGBT isn't really an issue in most western societies in the world at this stage. Yes the trans issue is the hot topic at the moment but that's another story.

At least here in the west, gay pride is more of an excuse to return to hunga hunga prehistoric times than a reivindication or a celebration, at leasat how I see it.
Theres lots of ways to meet gay people nowadays, and homophobia is generally so low that gay pride celebration serves more to give shame to others than anything else, thanks to the way its 'celebrated'.

I mean, for how many years should we celebrate that 'finally gays are treated equal and have the same rights', (with exception of 4 mentally challenged people) if we got it years ago?

“Gears of War is a series grounded in diversity" What a ridiculous quote. Gears 1 and 2 were like the least diverse games in the world, just sweaty and bloody meatheads running around with shotguns and chainsaws. Well I guess there was at least one black guy, lol.

The reason diversity needs to be promoted is the same reason this thread exists in it's current form. Instead of comments like "good on them" they're just being mocked and ridiculed. Now clearly this news doesn't matter to me, but it matters to someone.

Not to mention, Del and man-girl are pissed at Fahz for firing into a crowd of "peaceful protesters". Come to find out JD ordered Fahz to fire because the crowd was attacking them. JD and Fahz are muh bad guys. Oh ok I see where this is going....
