Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus trailer (PC/XB1/PS4, Oct 27th, idtech6), season pass

Is there any gameplay? This trailer didn't do much for me aside from the rapid blast of gameplay for the last 30 seconds.

So worried this is gonna be botched by too much narrative, forced stealth, forced to sit still and look around, forced slow walk through a prison or otherwise rob the player of control and choice type gameplay that took the previous two games down a notch.

The gameplay for TNO was pretty good. Pretty good. Normally I don't mention story at all unless it's a bother, and the story in TNO was. Oh, god, the horrible execution of it.

"My name is Blazkowicz grumble grumble grumble. I'm going to say some profound things now in grumbles. grumble grumble grumble. and it's something i'll do all game grumble grumble grumble. for some reason grumbles make things sound cooler grumble grumble grumble"

Might pick this up.

Bought New Order just the other day (crazy price of 3 and a half quid) and finished it on the weekend.

Loved it.

I'll be day one on this.

I really need to go back and play New Order don't I? Have had it forever, just never bothered to take the time.

If it's anything like this trailer, I'm in.

Before I go and buy the first Wolfenstein, is there any chance they'll have a pre-order offer that gets you a free copy?

Sure, but I'd wager that's something that'd already be the case on Steam if it were going to happen as Bethesda could have put those ducks in a row before flicking the switch on the store page/pre-orders.

The writing was amazing, I can't believe how wrong you are

Look at the tons of existing gameplay from The New Order and The Old Blood. It's a linear FPS with some optional alternate paths in a few missions.
The first game had a nice "alternate timeline" feature based on a decision the player made in the first mission. Each level had small areas only accessible in one of the timelines. It didn't affect the story overall, just provided some replayability and different dialogue scenes.

The fun comes from the blasting and over-the-top nature of the action. Blazko is an unstoppable nazi killing machine. The characters are well written/acted and environments very memorable. Lots of subtle world-building via magazines and articles littered around. The level of polish and presentation is high.
The game provides for optional light stealth moments, but you can just mow down enemies instead if you prefer. There was a hub in the first game with some short fetch/explore missions, but they were the exception (I enjoyed them personally). Mostly it's just action all the time. I'd be surprised if all these elements didn't return.

The New Order was amazing and one of my favourite games of this gen easily. Really excited for this. Going to have to get TNO and Old Blood on PC during the Steam Sale for a replay.

The preacher reminded me of Far Cry 5, New Colossus is such a good name.
Game looks great, not that long now before it's released either.

The graphics looked very good to me.

I haven't played the first game so I can't say how much of an improvement this was.

BIG improvement, idtech 6 is a beast and obviously it's a mid-late gen game compared to an early gen game so yea visuals are much improved.

I suppose that depends on your definition of "new". It's a modified id Tech 5 rather than the fundamental overhaul that Carmack had in mind back in 2008.
Well, his hope was that there would be this revolution in the way game data is structured and all that, but in the end the push was for a revolution in shading instead of geometry and textures. Id Tech 5 was made somewhat redundant by virtualized textures in DX 11/12 and the Unreal Engine 4 reveal of 2012 soon made clear that PBR and advanced lighting were the way to go.
Tbh, I prefer it, we have plenty of geometry already and lighting and colors are the most important aspect of any visual media, more than detail or sharpness.

Sorry, I meant gameplay for New Colossus. I played the first two. Thanks though.

Looks good. Big fan of TNO and OB.

I found them both to be more sensitively handled than the gung-ho Nazi smashing would have you believe.

All over this then.

Who's the VO for BJ? Sounds like the actor from Narcos and Logan.

Game looks god damn awesome though, hopefully another doom for this year, so far the coolest game showed.

Yeah I saw you edited while was posting. I doubt they'll stray very far from the formula of The New Order. Stoked that this is only a few months away.
Let's hope it's not limited to 60 fps as that was my only gripe for the first game and replaying it now with a mod that lets you set your own frame limit really improves it for me.

Brian Bloom. He was fantastic in the first game.

Loved TNO and OB and judging by this trailer I'll love this one as well but I can't shake the feeling something is wrong... How is BJ still alive? Have they hinted at any sort of explanation anywhere?

At the end of the credits in TNO you hear choppers coming, presumably to pick him up before the nuke goes off.

With Quakecon coming up in August I believe they usually have deep sales of digital titles. I know I bought TOB and TNO from one of them.

The writing was better than the game play tbh

The shot where BJ kicks the chair and goes off on the guy is such a well directed scene. MachineGames cutscenes are so underrated.
I remember a preview thread for the first game where they claimed TNO would have Naughty Dog-quality cutscenes. I swore up and down in the thread that it wasn't even possible for a meathead Wolfenstein game.

I was fucking wrong.
