COMICS! |OT| August 2015. Overwhelming.

lol Until Dawn...it's hard to enjoy this game when life or death was decided by
what looks my decision to shimmy vs. jump. Guys, guys! Don't shimmy!

not really what i'd qualify as a spoiler but spoilered anyways.
sounds like you need to get better at QTEs breh
Sometimes your life can be saved simply by not
giving the flare gun TO THE FUCKING IDIOT
.

Wait...
if he needs the flare gun to survive, but giving him the gun causes him to fire it instantly, how the heck do you even save him

The only thing I can think of is
if there's some other circumstance where you can give it to him. Like inside the tower or something. Because the the way I saw it happen (via one of the totems) showed her giving it to him inside the tower, and not outside like the way it actually went down.

That's the thing! I nailed all the qtes that cycle too. I thought being wreckless would get me killed not just add to the qte marathon.

Ah, then i probably
just remembered the totem wrong, because the totem was why i handed it to him in the first place, like "oh well clearly i gotta give it to him here." I'll keep that in mind next playthrough

Hm. that's weird, I never died while shimmying and i did it twice, i think. 90% of the time i did what you did and opted for safer routes when possible

I think that Matt needs to
disagree with Emily about going to the tower in the first place. Because I made Matt go like "dur hur, that's a great idea, Ems!" Maybe when you disagree, it makes him less likely to do something dumb with it.

Apologies if this thread doesn't allow for it, but I was hoping you guys would be able to critique a beginner. Now clearly this is very rough and not refined but I'm just trying to practice getting used to the pencil. Any tips, pointers, and critiques are greatly appreciated!

Anyone? Greatly appreciated :^)

Marvel got me with that Starbrand book. There are a crazy amount of books with young heroes post Secret Wars and I'm loving it. This is basically an entirely whole new generation of the Marvel Universe which of course started with Marvel Now.

That could also be it, I know that
whether you agree or not is a butterfly effect thing. Many of my decisions as Matt revolved around trying to not (intentionally) make Emily mad at me, which... didn't end well for him, so maybe a different approach is warranted. He's the only tricky one for me to keep alive i think, because I at least kinda know what i did to cause Mike, Ash, Em, Jess, and Josh to die

I'm upping Batgirling to be Batsquirrling, and i don't approve of this.

Too bad everything will be canceled with all the real mantles reverting back to their original owners. /s

I do advise that anyone who reads Omega Men also does themselves a favor and reads the 8 page free preview. It's not replicated in the first issue and helps set things up a bit more.

Omega Men Sneak Peek

Okay, I thought that's what this was. Cool, I'll grab this now.

Hey! I just got home or I would have replied earlier and gave some input.

First, I'd like to point you over to thiiiis thread which has many great books on drawing and the elements of art.

This thread tolerates my art so its totally fine if you want to post your comic related work here.

I want to ask you some questions before I critique anything. What are your interests and what do you hope to do by drawing? Is it to draw some of your favorite comics characters or maybe go past that and create art pieces or do you want to ultimately create comics of your own?

Knowing all that, I can give you better or more specific advice, but looking at the two pictures you've posted, I get the impression you want to make striking character profiles with lots of strong shadows.

There are a couple things that I think could make these individual pieces better.

Go past the sketch phase. One thing that I think everyone likes about sketches is that they can kind of the see many little variations of lines that all settle or center around one particular or strong line. While its fine if you are satisfied with the way it looks, I think being able to settle on a particular set of lines could help it now and any drawing you make in the future.

Better materials. The paper looks like ordinary notebook paper and it looks like maybe you've used a regular pencil or mechanical pencil. Try buying different kinds of drawing/painting stock and see which textures you like. Different pencils, brushes, pens, brushpens give you different looks to the same drawing. Experiment with each and find what you like! You never know what you discover. A lot of styles are developed with experimentation.

Draw what you don't like and treat it like you love drawing it. Mostly in the Dr Doom drawing, I see you've put a lot of details and effort into his metal face, which is the defining characteristic of Dr Doom. However, I would like to see the same effort extend to his hood. Right now it kind of looks a bit wispy. There should be defining and flowing shadows that form his hood.

While I don't know if you drew from reference or from the top of your head, I recommend practicing drawing from your head and building up a 'visual library' to pull from in the future. Try drawing things from real life. This will help you define your style and let you make your own creative decisions!

Let me know if you want me to expand on any of the stuff I've said here or feel free to continue by PM!

At least stay current with your comicgaf lore. I've stopped shilling.

Coincidentally, I've found less to post about in this thread.
Continue to shill, pls

Im so close to buying in to valiant. Will probably start with Paolo Rivera Bloodshot

I can't really give you too detailed of critiques, as I'm not an artist myself, but I think this is pretty damn good work for a beginner... keep it up! The only way to get better is to put the time in and just keep drawing, drawing, drawing. Also, make sure to check out some online guides on things like perspective, etc. The batman sketch especially show promise but you can see you get a little off in terms of where each part of the face should end up exactly on the head itself, so maybe look into drawing the head outline and lines on the face to get everything lined up... like this (not the best example, but you get my drift):

Good point. The isolation is getting to me is all, happens now and then.

I know the feeling working the last 12 years on second shift. This Summer I actually became really good friends with one of the summer help college girls. So when she left and things went back to normal it hit me pretty hard.

The Valiant is the best event of all time and an excellent jumping on point.

I own this and the Valiant Humble Bundle. Pretty sure I'm buying the Groupees bundle as well since I want to read Dr. Mirage and Armour Hunters. At least I probably will, I still need the Humble Bundle going on right now with the Star Wars audio dramas.

It's worth it, I think, even if you've got some of it. That's a lot of X-O.

Do it. I can vouch that Lunchpod is right about the recent Valley Ant stuff being super legit. Humdinger especially was fantastic.

Valley Ant. That's your best one yet lol

Yeah, it's weird and a bit concerning.

Are all the issue out and will there be a volume 2? They seem to have built up a large following that im sure they don't want to waste with only 5 issues. Kelly Sue is posting people getting those NC tattoos every single day.

Just out of curiosity, if you go all the way down the Valiant rabbit hole (at least to whatever reasonable amount there is, don't know if it's like, say, IDW Transformers where you only want the new stuff), how many trades would we be talking? I'm not entirely opposed to allowing it on my radar, though I'd need to finish catching up on the Hellboy/BPRD universe before even considering it...

Yeah its weird Vicente DeLandro needs a fill in like every two issues so maybe they had issues get in fill in artists ::shrug::

Sucks, I've been waiting on the trade. It seems like KSD's best project

It's not as many as it seems, really, and it's just based on what you're interested it. I'm going to go off memory here, so bear with me:

Harbinger - 6 trades
Bloodshot - 6 trades
X-O - 9 and counting
Unity - 5 and counting
Archer and Armstrong - 7
Shadowman - 5
Quantum and Woody - 4
Dr. Mirage - 1 and counting
Imperium - 1 and counting
Rai - 2 and counting
Timewalker - 1 and counting
Divinity - 1 and counting
Eternal Warrior - 2

Events -
Harbinger Wars - 1 + 1 each from Harbinger/Bloodshot
Armor Hunters - 1 main series, 2 tie-ins, 1 each from X-O/Unity
The Valiant - 1
The Delinquents - 1

This is only counting the 2012 reboot stuff. The old stuff is a different universe.

Hm I dunno. Really the universe has 2-3 core books. Harbinger, x-o and then maybe Unity is a core book. The rest are ones to get that are worth it. Which is of course Archer & Armstrong and Ivar. The two best books in the whole line.

Hell just read those if you want as they are completely stand alone. Also the eternal warrior minis were great.

And his opinion is 100% correct!

Oops I forgot the Eternal Warriors minis. I didn't care for those.

Huh, interesting. That's definitely not nothing, but it's doable and certainly not to bad of a thing if you pick it up piece by piece, I'd imagine. I'll certainly keep it in mind in the future.

It only took a few months to read most of it. Once you get into it though, you'll wish there was more of it. :/
