AV Club gave it a C. I really don't get it.
Eh I agree, this was a setup episode that teased the finale and I thought the last shot of the lawnmower man was pretty weak

You're not wrong, but it's still a nice feather in HBO's cap. Hasn't always been common for established actors to do TV work that runs concurrent with their film work, let alone Oscar-winning actors, but situations like this may help continue the trend.I had to search the word goodwill (on a translation website called Leo) but if it means what I think it means why would HBO need it? I mean I get where you are coming from and definitely good for them, but they are HBO, don't they have all the goodwill they would ever need? I'm not from America but at least where I live, if HBO makes a show people know it will be good and they watch it.
Spoilers!!!

Dont click unless you want things given away.
MOD EDIT: For some context, this is an audition video for an actor that gives some things away. Slate has more on it here. Please spoiler tag anything from the finale.
I wonder if there's room for discussion about the idea that Maggie "made" him do it. Like he had no control over the situation and wasn't smart enough to understand it was wrong and that he was fucking over a partner.

HBO is attracting a whole 'nother caliber of actors. Before it was just really great television actors, now they're attracting great film actors it really is a feather in their cap and cements that reputation of producing quality television
Shots fired at Leo? http://youtu.be/yWGaKOetSoQ?t=37s
It is what's happening in the production of quality content. With the way studios think when it comes to backing profitable projects, it doesn't surprise me TV is suddenly becoming a place for better talent to thrive. I mean look at Netflix and House of Cards.
I assume so. People expect BIG TWISTS now.I'm not sure where people's disappointment of it being the lawnmover guy is coming from.
Is it because it's not a big plot twist?

@adambvary said:Btw, McConaughey told the #Oscars press room that he is definitely not returning for another season of True Detective.
Already known, but just to confirm again:

I'm gonna watch the episode in a few, but AV Club gave it a C?
The Tuttles are obviously a screwed bunch but they weren't protecting him...They were trying to keep shit on the down low, because Errol used their screwed up rituals as part of his M.O
HBO drunk as fuck right now after they snagged an Oscar winner for an on-air show.
I'm confused about something, the men with the masks, the Tuttles are involved in that right? Is Errol a part of that group or is he seperate? The reason I ask is because in the inside the episode video Pizzalato says that the video Marty watches was of a child sacrifice, so wouldn't that mean the Tuttles are involved in the murders, or is that separate from what Errol is doing?
How in the hell are they gonna end all this in a significant way in one hour? I've been hyping this show up to everyone I know. I hope this all pays off.
I get the impression they're involved but Errol is the one actually committing the murders.
As a single young man in his 20s, Marty sitting at the house eating a TV dinner alone had me legit shook.

Yep!wait.
thats remus from Boardwalk Empire?? lol i didn't notice
I can barely tell that these are the same guy...
Good episode. Moves things along quickly to setup the finale. I'm so glad rust and marty are back together, gonna go read some fanfic involving them to celebrate.
She married a wealthier man. You could see pictures of them around the house. One in front of the Louvre in Paris. How did Maggie get that big house?
AV Club gave it a C. I really don't get it.
Yeah, that makes sense. My idea, that I think someone else had a few pages ago, was that the Tuttles were involved in molesting the kids but that they weren't involved in the murders, and that really creepy video Marty watched was of the Marie girl being abused, not actually killed.
I even thought Errol was maybe picking his victims from those who had been abused, and he knew about the Tuttles rituals and that's he placed the blindfold on Dora Lang so it would point in their direction. You know he was using their ritual as a cover for himself.
I figured that was why the Rev. Tuttle got involved, just in case it led back to him, but then Pizzalato says the video was of a child sacrifice, so I don't know what to think anymore.
Apologies for rambling like this.
I have a feeling that both Rust and Marty are going to get killed off in the finale to close the story.
I'm almost positive that Childress was the name of one of the cops that was there when that guy who confessed to Rust killed himself.
Final scene was so bad.
God damn Marty's depressing ass life :*(
I can barely tell that these are the same guy...
Finally I can read this thread without people bullshit "Rust and Marty are killers" rambling. This isn't I Know What You Did Last Summer, goddamn. Alright alright alright!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looked like the guy in the video was holding a sacrificial knife
Red Herring? Red Herring.
I'm gonna watch the episode in a few, but AV Club gave it a C?
