OUCH OUCH OUCH at Madden numbers

August 2004, Total Madden sales 2,130,738 (PS2/CE, XBX, GC)
August 2005, Total Madden sales 2,224,984 (PS2, XBX, GC)

A whopping increase of 94,246 units. Hey EA, was it worth taking NFL exclusive license???
I bet there are people out there waiting for 2K to be released which is why they didn't buy Madden. :lol

Is that Europe release list?

Madden 06 ships September 20 and Burnout Legends September 13 in NA. They were both pushed up a week from their initial ship dates.

Which means the PSP SW LTD is still ahead of the DS SW LTD.

PSP - 4,159,948
DS - 4,127,849

I hope this accounts for the missing chads!

It's going to take more than the first month of sales to find out the answer to that question... Hell it might even take another revision or 2 of Madden to find out the real answer...

Agree, first month doesn't tell the whole story, but the 2K game sold 1.5 mil units by August 2004 last year, I think they were hoping to capture at least 30 to 50% of those sales.

I agree that the numbers are extremely disappointing for Madden. I was predicting 2.6M-2.7M (increase of based on no competition from NFL 2k5).

I think results this year across the board are starting to disappoint publishers. If it wasn't for the PSP and to a lesser extent the DS, software sales would be down 10% this year, but they are instead up 10%. PS2, GBA, & GCN software are the main culprits, as the Xbox actually has positive software growth for the year.

I just noticed something, Nintendogs + AWDS sold 254,020 combined which means that the rest of the DS SW (34 titles) only sold 192,324. That does not sound good.

1) Too many cheap games on PS2 - Greatest Hits line may be having a huge impact on new games now with new buyers. Although I don't know why publishers think people buying a 150 dollar ps2 this year is going to buy a ton of 50 dollar games. They'll buy the 20 dollar greatest hits games

2) GBA has too much shovelware and the only great content on a whole is published by Nintendo. I wonder what GBA numbers would be like this year without Pokemon.

3) Do gamers even buy Gamecube software anymore beyond Nintendo titles?

Top 9 DS games are Nintendo's (you know the 3 Nintendogs & AW:DS, Meteos is actually 8th, but published by Nintendo)

Rest are below 9k each. Madden 2006 DS was 11th. Ouch.

Wow, I was quite sure that Madden DS wouldn't sell well, but ... below 9k is a really big bomba :D

Wow EA should make X360 the lead sku for sure. The only version to have a major jump year over year. Perhaps we are starting to see small rumblings of a shift in Madden userbase for next gen?

Yeah. The first 75 percent of these threads are one big tease. Then the next 10 percent is the actual numbers. The next 10 percent is "POST NUMBERS OF X COMPANY". Then the final 5 percent is where we point and laugh at the games doing bad and praise the companies of our favorite games if they are doing well.

For those who don't know...

our source, the kind and benevolent Bunkum, is allowed to give us the full numbers 24 hours after they're released. He used to give them to us right when they came out but he got in trouble for that. Fortunately, he was given permission to keep giving us the numbers but with the 24 hour embrago. So enjoy the scraps and suck it up until we get the full numbers.

It was still outsold by well over 2-1

IMO, It's more of a factor of:

a) ESPN fans as a percentage being much more Xbox fans (thus buying the XBox version)
b) Second year of live
c) Xbox fans coming out in droves for month #1 for XBox game sales (then afterwards they drop off like a brick (Doom 3, Splinter Cell as examples)

The Xbox version DEFINITELY had a spectacular month, much better than the PS2 based on percentage growth, but the PS2 version will still sell another 2M copies over the next 8 months or so vs ~600-700k for the Xbox version.

Isn't there something about only posting numbers for publicly traded companies, too? That's why the numbers for small companies almost never get posted.

I wanna see GTA:SA sales. :)

And it's true Nintendogs sold out (at least here). We've had no copies for a week. We even sold all our Chihuahuas!

Great numbers for AWDS though. Fucking excellent game. Beat it last night. Hopefully it does like FE:TSS and sells by word of mouth.

With GTA:SA taken out of most stores it doesn't take a genius how it's going to sell.

Fire Emblem: The Twin Snakes? :p

Just kidding. I'm already at least 100 hours into FE: TSS. Beaten it on normal both paths, and am on hard with Eirika. :D

Will the AO problem with GTA:SA effect LCS any? I mean if parents go see the same name on the game of that "bad and nasty game" on the title they may not allow there kids to buy it.

Eh, the game series was considered bad and nasty long before GTA:SA and it didln't do anything, now it's a GTA: SA that was mostly taken off the market because of a rating change. All LCS needs is a M rating.

Dropped dead. (Of course, ~80% or so of retailers didn't have it anymore)

That's why I want to see the sales. This is the first month where basically no one has been carrying it.

63rd game for the month, below Conker. Bunk should have the numbers up soon.

This is definitely going to prevent GTA:SA from surpassing VC, no?

They gotta be pissed over there.

Well I know that later this month we're getting Xbox SAs in. They might be readying an M SA for GH.

That might work, yeah. I just can't help but feel this is surpressing critical growth in the series, just when they're about ready (I believe) to start hyping next-gen GTA at E3 2006 or so. They can't be happy that future buyers might be delayed in buying SA because of this controversy. I wonder how many heads rolled over this...

On the otherhand, it's excellent exposure for the series. People will want what they can't have.

I hear this theory, but I don't know how much weight it has. I guess we'll only know once the Mature versions are back on the shelves.

The Mature version was always on the shelves. ;) The AO version will be out in a week or so.

Why this whole GTA saga is so stupid. The game is originally rated for 17 and up.

So is Nintendogs a Million worldwide yet?

Probably not quite yet. It's over 650,000 in Japan through Sept 4/05, and Nintendo said it sold 250,000 in NA (probably US and Canada) in the first week. If you count the past week or so as well (up to Sept 9/05), then it is probably pretty damn close at this very moment.

Nintendogs wont sell much in september, mainly since every retailer is out.. gamestop doesnt expect another shipment till 9/24 of any versions.

So ... ouch

but this could be nintendo doing the trickle in let people jizz all over it then when they release more have it sell off the shelves like first day sales all over again.

Does anyone think the Hot Coffee shit might hurt sales of LCS?

Just because, the way I look at it, even though PSP has obviously brought the age of handheld game players up, handheld gaming (PSP and DS) is still not at the PS2 audience. It's still kids and teenagers, but more teenagers than GBA it seems.

With LCS being a big holiday game, I just wonder if parents will look at it and say "oh, GTA, that's the porno game". heh

I seriously doubt it... and I think with the higher entry pricepoint for the PSP skews the audience older.
