Watching it on youtube and realizing the writing is shit
I kinda low key hated TLOU2 but man, if y’all don’t really invest and actually play the game for yourself, your opinion is invalid.

Sick and tired of people complaining about experiencing the game when all they did was watching YouTube edits. It’s like saying you watch A Serbian Film cuz you watched a clip of it. You need to invest in that shit and actually put your time and a controller in your hands and play through all of it by yourself before I can take your opinion seriously.

At this point, I just look at it as you’re (people who only watch YouTube cutscene edits) jumping on the hate wagon, which is a valid mindset, and a popular one, and just shouting Cuckman this Cuckman that cus it’s a meme or some shit, but you don’t fully comprehend how much of deep shit we’re in with this game.

Damn, that sounds kinda defensive, but don’t get me wrong. I found TLOU2 to be as much of a disappointment as any Angry Joes out there, but I can’t stop feeling that anyone who watch this game through YouTube Has

For a lot of games I think you’d have a point, but The Last of Us is so story-centric that you’re not missing too much by only watching it.

The Last of Us wants to be a movie more than a game, so I can’t fault someone for watching it instead of playing it. As I’ve said before, they took risks with the story but none with the gameplay. That should tell you the game’s focus.

Scripted or not its just comical the way they did it. Coming at you when your weapon clicks is an extremely dumb move since you could have side arms at ready, it was just added to impress the players with a "wow it reacted!" moment. The rest is very common stuff for stealth games. The level of tlou2 AI is at best 'normal'.
you have no idea dude, give it a rest. Playing the game on survivor it's not joke and enemies can easily flank you. How about you go and watch how this works in the GDC talk since this is very much an iteration in a system they had in U4 instead of talking shit without know shit?

1. A strong directorial voice is crucial on big projects. Decision by committee is paralyzing, and tends to result in mediocrity because if everyone isn't on the same page the process gets bogged down by endless meetings and revisions to "completed" work.
I advocate for a strong directorial voice too, but that doesn't mean it's always the best option. If you give all the decisions to one guy, you have to be sure that guy it's excepcionally talented. Cuckmann just isn't.

A great example of this is the Nu Star Wars; the first one was made by comitte, and was a pretty safe and competent movie, nothing great, but it was ok. It was what people needed at the time.

Then Disney, suddenly, gave the second movie to a nobody called Rian Johnson, and he is from the same school as Cuckmann or David Benioff and Daniel Weiss; edgy subverting of expectations as the most important value of their narratives mixed with the diversity cast that makes people at Hollywood get a hard on.

5. Same deal with the whole topic of "divisiveness". Its not a bad thing because divisive titles tend to be memorable, whereas little is more forgettable than bland competence. More to the point cowardice is not a virtue, and that's precisely what kowtowing to expectations is
Again, you are doing the same vast over generalization here. Some tiny divisive titles tend to be memorable because they try something really different that puts some people off at the time, but this isn't obviously the case because basically there's nothing new in what The Last Of Us 2 did.

There's a lot of people who liked The Last Jedi or the last season of Game Of Thrones, but overall, they were complete clusterfuck from a narrative, plot and execution point. Divisiveness doesn't always means you made something artistically audacious, means that you just turned something so incredibly loved before as something so stupid, then some people are gonna love it still but others are going to mourn the dip in quality for the sake of badly played out subversions and empty pretentious edgyness.

This is... absolutely not true. TLOU is a game series that messes with player agency more than any other. It’s a fundamental part of the storytelling. Absolutely fine to criticise the game if you’ve played it, but if you’ve just watched videos, you have no idea what Naughty Dog were trying to accomplish. To properly understand their intent, you have to play the game, to understand how you are robbed of your own agency.

Critiquing a game (any game) without playing it, is like criticising a film having watched just the trailers.

Say all you want my opinion is invalid but the story of this game won't change by playing it instead of watching someone else play. I ain't wasting $60 on this, and if anyone else also watched part of it on youtube and didn't like what they saw, i recommend doing the same.

I cringe at myself for eve sitting in doors playing video games (instead of being proactive) - Can't imagine watching a 10+ hour video of a games story that I'm clearly not enjoying. 10 hours hun. No one will sit through that if they didn't want to play the game in the first place. The gameplay segmants are and have always been apart of the character building and small story beats. I ain't gonna feel that watching a 10 hour video in contrast to controlling the character myself in the game world.

Not true? Yeah the stuff in the game didn't really happen.
Only idiots would send pregnant women to battle and pregnant women itself are laughing about this because no pregnant women would ever do it.

Naughty Dog itself showed the player how stupid they were doing this.

1. They make Dinah unable to fight due to being pregnant for some days / weeks
2. After that they make a women fight that is pregnant for some months without problems

If 1. cant fight due some weeks, 2 cant do it at all.

Another part of bad writing, another part of nonsense, another part where i said "Its so stupid that i dont like it anymore"

I'm the game everyone tells her not to go, but she insists. On top of that, she isn't a good fighter. Ellies beats her no problem.

If iam the boss and she insists, i would just tell her "No i need soldiers that can give me 100 %, you can only give me 20 %. Go home and get your baby first. You are a mother now. If you fall on it, if a bullet hits you there or anything else puts too much stress on you... your baby will be dead and you will be mentally dead after it too"

She wouldnt even be able to climb somewhere (what she does with the help of Abby), she wouldnt be able to walk long distances without resting... she even fell on her stomach while the game moved on... that would be the moment that the kid may die and she would have been out of action for the rest of her life.

You're just repeating what others have told.

I've seen Angry Joe make this claim and now people are repeating what the said.

Mel was never SENT into battle. She was traveling to the FOB with Manny and Abby and they were ambushed. The lines were secure and Mel makes the statement about how it used to be safe to travel because the enemy lines were secure but now things have changed.

1. Do you realize that she was only out for a few days? Its Seattle Day 1, 2 and 3.
2. As I stated above, Mel, Abby and Manny were ambushed. Dina traveled with Ellie but she didn't know she was pregnant. Dina helps Ellie in a desperate attempt to save Ellie. Mel is forced to fight Ellie.

People often call out "bad writing" when it's clear they haven't been paying attention to the story at all. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Do you buy every game available on the market and then judge them?
Because what you and some other guys are saying, is that you can't be sure you don't like a game until you play it, which of course is not true.
Trailers, videos, and reviews exist of a reason.
The same reason why youtubers didn't receive a copy of the game to review it.

You certainly have different mindsets and prejudices that made you miss out on games you could've loved. Thats life. In my case, 9 out of 10 times, when i think something looks unappealing it does turn out to be boring, including TLoU1.

I'm not buying it because the story looked like something right out of an edgy teenager fanfic, which is a great bother given how many portions of the game are dedicated to story. Who knows, maybe gameplay is actually some ultra amazing shit when personally played (although it certainly only looked 'fine' to me, and my trusted reviewers had the same opinion), but i ain't wasting $60 on such a gamble.

Normal AI in most games just slowly walk beside you aiming their weapons.

That's a really cheap "flanking" mechanic. Lets not forget that in most games, the AI don't remember you after running away. They just go back what they were doing before. In TLOU Part II, they're searching for you until you're dead or they're completely aware that you're still in the area.

AI In most games just "reset" their AI behavior.

Claiming that this is "normal at best" is just ridiculous.

You're right in saying that trailers, videos and reviews exist for the reason of seeing whether you'll like a game. I do tend to give games a fair chance most of the time

TLOU 2 got majority great reviews btw

Mate, have you ever played any stealth games? Because in those they usually do all the things you said, even some older or more mediocre ones. Just go play any metal gear solid from 2 onwards and you'll see all those behaviours and more.

You are still repeating this crap like it’s some kind of gotcha, but you still lack the most basic logic.

Again, going in the open in a world filled with millions of zombies is an unnecesary risk for the best doctor they have who also is pregnant. Everybody tells Mel to NOT go, because they know it’s dangerous.

Yes, it’s the definition of bad writing for the sake of scoring feminist points. Something that the game does all the time at the mercy of the plausibility of itself.

No game makes it as believable as TLOU 2. It has the most humanized AI and no, older games don't do all of things TLOU 2's AI do

"Unnecessary risk"

Wrong.

They're preparing an all out attack on the Scars. This includes all members of the W.L.F. Either she was going to be left vurnaable at the base OR provide assistance near the front lines.

Abby wanted her to stay because she didn't want anything to happen to Mel.

Wait...

You haven't been paying attention to the story.

Do you know Mel travels to The Aquarium so that she can leave to Santa Barbara? You think a pregnant woman shouldn't be traveling, so you think her traveling to Santa Barbara to escape the war was a terrible decision, right?

Gonna just put this here and call it a day.

Pregnancies are like frickin' snowflakes man. No two are the same. Some women are knocked down hard by their pregnancies and some aren't. Furthermore, the characters in question aren't even in the same stage of their pregnancy so the comparison that you drew is kind of irrelevant. Different parts of a pregnancy affect women in different ways. It isn't exposing any stupidity that they show differing experiences that different women have with their respective pregnancies.

Honestly, that's not bad writing. Pregnancy is crazy.

Anyone that has any personal experience with pregnancy would probably expect a mic drop right now.

Yes, Alert -> Evasion -> Caution. Different levels of agressiveness and alertness depending if you are on their sights and how long you've been gone

She at least has a motive to do so, which is being with her husband and the father of her baby and also because she doesn’t have many more options at that point. I doubt she can ask for an escort go to the aquarium.

You dont go into battle with a baby and you dont fall on your stomach. Thats it. Everytime you fall on your stomach your are going to seriously hurt the baby.

That alone disqualifies the pregnant woman going into a real battle.

And the character falls several times while playing. You kill your baby, dont cry about it after.

This game is full of fake bullshit that would never happen in real life. No matter how you would wish for it and no matter how much propaganda is in there. And that propaganda is Neil Druckmanns only purpose for the game.

Don't buy the fucking game, it's your money. But don't pretend to understand gameplay without even doing a little research. What would you think of a reviewer basing his opinion in some youtube videos and making inaccurate claims about the game that you actually played? For me, it would be a pretty worthless one.

TLoU2 expands on this system, making encounters a really good mix between scripting and emergent behavior of AI.

And you're contracting yourself.

She also has a motive to help. She doesn't want to stay around because she believes she could be doing more.

First you said she shouldn't travel in a world filled with millions of zombies and now that you realized she traveled to meet up with Owen, you're saying, "I guess that's okay." :messenger_tears_of_joy:

People are desperate to look for "bad writing" when it's not

But hey, lets say it's "Bad writing" to have Ellie in TLOU 1 run off by herself in a zombie infested world just after an ambush because she was upset that Joel was leaving her with Tommy.

Ellie was in far more danger than Mel.

Generally people fail when they bring up "bad writing".

Jeah you just want it to be a good story which it isnt. You close your eyess from all the flaws within the story. You only want to see the good stuff. You avoid being realistic.

Thats how you fail before you even started.

Mate, i did plenty of research, and my conclusion is that its normal. Just because you watched a 1 hour video detailing how the AI works, dont think other games aren't putting just as much work.

Exactly. The game often resets as if they weren't even there.

I played most MGS games.
They don't, they keep looking for you in the caution state which takes a loooong time to cool down. Only then they stop looking for you since they assume you're gone. I played the entire main story series since mgs1.
