Thanks. I've been wanting to change it to this for a while but just got around to it. I love that scene, and the image/phrase seems to fit GAF quite well. :lol

Speaking of classic ctf, i'd much rather have this in matchmaking than multi flag. Those matches always end so quickly, whereas imo a good ctf match should be a back and forth struggle to try and get a cap. I love proper ctf where you need to return your flag first to cap, with touch return on also, it's my fave mode in any game :D
 
I was just re-reading the Weekly Update and I'm excited for the Auto Update. I wish it was ready already just because I'm curious as to what they're changing. I'd love to see the Mauler nerfed and have the trip mine work better. Halo 2's first AU really enhanced the game so I can't wait to see what they do for Halo 3.

When is the AU expected? Any talk of reducing the magic melee window?
 
Magic melee needs to go, and that's coming from a guy who's been on the receiving end of European-lag-related beatdowns more times than he cares to remember. The current situation is worse.

We know that they are looking at melee. Whether or not it will be altered is anyone's guess. I guess yes.

No eta on AU1.

8v8 Classic CTF on Hang'em High and Damnation in HaloCE would last for hours, but they were a riot. I'm trying to remember the maps on Halo2 that were also good for that gametype. I really enjoyed Colossus(perhaps one of the few), but Bungie never did remove the sniper rifle from that map. I think it would have made CTF on Colossus ten times more epic if they had done that. Warlock was a good one too. CTF on Midship and Beaver Creek were just okay.

I think the introduction of 1 Flag CTF and rapid assault, with 4 rounds in Halo 2, worked really well. Some of my best experiences playing Halo2 on-line were in BTB and Team Skirmish on Headlong and Zanzibar. Really nice maps. I was devastated when BTB became unranked and I could no longer play a serious game on Headlong. That was tragic.
 
8v8 would never work on Hang 'em High nor Damnation :lol

Those maps were at least best for 2v2 and at most 4v4. The only 8v8 map with moderate ability to hold a game was sidewinder but d no one ever played more than a group larger than a 4v4 on Halo:CE, so I think you're dreaming there buddy.

Whats disappointing about Halo3 are mostly the levels. There is only 1 true BTB map and it's a gigantic fuckfest full of vehicles in the middle of the damn desert. One could argue Valhalla and Last Resort but those don't even fit the BTB mantra. 1 is a remake of one of the worst 4v4 maps in Halo2 and the other is the bastard son between Coagulation and Containment.

Halo2 was released with Waterworks, Coagulation, and Headlong. Not only is that 2 more BTB maps to play objective and slayer, but all 3 are also GREAT maps.

Just curious are there stats on how many people use spartans over elites (player models)?

I rarely see people playing as elites anymore...

I used an elite for a while, then I changed to a spartan so I could use the Halo 1 helmet.

I haven't really looked at the armor since early October. Actually, I haven't really played Halo 3 since mid-December, outside of a few minutes the other day. Too busy being LTTP with Orange Box.

Heh, opposite for me. I've been really busy with work lately, and most of my time has been spent running through Mass Effect anyway... but I was rather hoping to get back into Halo 3 in the next couple of days. Melee going back to the US-biased mess it was in Halo 2 will damped my enthusiasm no end, I'd imagine.

Same exact situation here. Down to the old school helmet and the LTTP Orange Box. I actually just beat Portal this morning.
 
Am I the only one here who reads this:

Purple Reign, another map, coming in the foreseeable future, isn’t asymmetrical at all. It’s a brand new, small, arena style map that we hope some of our more competitive-focused players will enjoy.

It is chock full of weapons suited for mid-to-long range combat and there are long sight lines across the map from both of the somewhat enclosed bases. The bases themselves have one way windows on the second level – much like the windows in a police interrogation room. From inside a base you can see out, but from outside of the base your view is obstructed.

There are elevated walkways connecting the bases to a two-level structure at the center of the map. These connecting walkways are too tall to jump to from the floor but there are a bunch of small columns dotting the floor plan that you can jump on and then easily hop up to the walkway for a better vantage point or to grab a rifle from the walkways.

but of course it says "brand new" so I'm not totally convinced.

Give me Midship, Lockout, and Sidewinder in the next map packs and I will die a happy man Bungie.

Bungie doesn't do remakes or rehashes, they make maps that are 'inspired' by previous maps. Also known as 'spiritual successors'
 
The new map pack has really sparked my interest in halo 3 again (I suppose the recon armor helps too) but I just love foundry. It's amazing. I hope that Bungie gives us another foundry type map with even more freedom.

I don't think it's much of a stretch calling Last Resort a remake of Zanzibar. However, rehash has a negative connotation so I wouldn't use that one to describe Last Resort or Coagulation or Elongation etc.

I consider Last Resort a Zanzibar remake.

I don't want Sidewinder completely remade. I want changes. For example, all those portals so close together and the ladder in the base.

But a Sidewinder return would be awesome. :)
 
I'm not crazy about remakes. I would rather have spiritual successors. I already played the maps in Halo 2 to death. That being said, I would not mind if they remade Relic. I love that map. Snipers only and one flag were awesome on it.

Basically, I don't mind if they remake the level I want. :D

Yeah but what about the Halo 1 maps? That's what I want to see.

I would not mind those, but I would hope they are reworked a little. There are some fun maps in Halo one, but there are a few that don't stand the test of time perfectly.

Sorry. No dreaming for me. I use to have Halo LANs at my place once or twice a week and there would usually be around 20 people that showed up. Perhaps you never experienced the fun of mass chaos in an 8v8 Classic CTF game on Hang'em High or Damnation. Sure, the games lasted a lot longer, but that just ensured more hilarity and spectacular last second flag returns. Plus, it gave kill whores a chance to really rack up kills. It was pure awesome.

And of course we mixed it up, usually doing team slayer matches up to 100 kills, but 8v8 classic CTF games with people who were actually good, were a whole lot of fun.

Everyone loves Sidewinder, but I never did. It was too big. Even with 8v8, half the time you couldn't find anyone. I think a lot of people's love for sidewinder stems from the fact that it was one of only two levels in which you could use vehicles at the time. But now vehicles are in almost every map and I find them more of a distraction than a compliment in most maps.

Gold skulls net you an achievement. Silver skulls, nada. As long as you picked it up, you should be good to go.
