I love fighting Hunters with the below skull list. It takes FOREVER to take them down. So awesome.

-Tough Luck
-Catch
-Fog
-Thunderstorm
-Tilt
-Catch

They almost count for the same amount of points as a Scarab with the above skulls (their base value is same as Hero class).

I'll have to try that. I still argue with my friends over the quality of the SP campaign, I just don't understand how anyone can say it's not awesome--there are problems, sure, but overall it's the best SP FPS I've ever played.

Sweet pics Ghaleon. I have never fought an enemy as fun as the chiefs (yes, much better than Elites). Playing on legendary with a couple skulls on is an incredible experience. Bungie nailed it.
I love Halo 3 and all, but to me it would have been much much cooler fighting a group of Elites than a group of monkeys. :p

(especially on "the ark" )

I think a lot of people hate the campaign because of the last two levels. It left a bitter taste in peoples mouth. I know on my first play through I felt Halo 3 had a horrible campaign, but upon replaying the earlier levels I realized that is not completely true.

Plus, the presentation of the story in Halo 3 could have been better, a lot better. The first cut-scene set the bar extremely high, none of the cut-scenes that follow raise that bar higher.

Edit: I consider the first cut-scene not to be Cortona's speech, but the one where Master Chief is laying 'dead' on the ground.

Upon replaying the campaign missions for metagame highscores, it struck me again how incredible they are. I don't understand why people complained about the campaign, for me it's easily the best of the three games. It perfects the formula and the 'samey' level design people complained about is practically gone. The structures in The Ark were very similar to eachother and Crow's Nest wasn't such a great location, but apart from that... very diverse and so fun to play. It was also for the first time that I actually observed the Brute team mechanic and smirked when I heard a Chieftain say something along the lines of 'you flush him out, pack brother' and watched the hierarchy in the Brute lineage in action. The Brute pack in Crow's Nest is one of my favorites. When you stay behind the perfect metal shelter for too long, some Brutes will eventually come and get you and even destroy the cover.

I'd go so far as to say that missions like The Storm, Ark and Covenant are the very peak of the series. Whoever designed the structure and variation for The Covenant deserves a feather on his hat. Also, Sierra 117? Best first mission in a shooter I've played. I keep coming back to it. I will say though that like many, I'm not a fan of the Cortana level. I'm postponing my playthrough of that and I did the same on my heroic run. It's a shame because they balanced the appearance of the Flood so well in the game, until you once again had your fill of them in that mission.

It's the third time I'm playing through these missions and even after completing the metagames I can't wait to play this game in co-op on legendary (I haven't even played the game on co-op thus far - gasp)

In my opinion, Halo 3's campaign was a blast, except 2 levels, Cortana and the last level (
though I do love the Warthog escape sequence at the end
). If you loved the single player campaign, you will be blown away when you play through coop. It is one of the funnest gaming experiences I have ever had. I absolutely love the vehicle sections; they really knocked those levels out of the park.

As for the flood, I'm sure it has been said many times but the reason I hate fighting it is because its AI seems so simple compared to the rest of the enemies in the game. For me one of the best parts of Halo has always been how dynamic the fire fights are due to how the enemies respond to your actions. Every time you are forced to fight only the flood that part of the game's appeal is ripped away. The flood simply takes a b-line to the player and attacks. Their only tactic seems to be to try and overwhelm with numbers and act as bullet sponges. This has been the case since the original Halo and flood exclusive levels seem to be almost unanimously hated. Bungie really should have avoided flood only levels in Halo 3.

Love this picture (nice filenames too :p). Yellow and green light, the light bulb and the Hammer Hero in action. Compression is a bit too hard though.

Yeah, that's the main reason I'm not that fond of them either. I like the Flood in short bursts (like mission 5), but their appearance gets too strong near the end. Wasn't Bungie's original philosophy with the Flood to offer some sort of cathartic Serious Sam-like shooting in contrast to the Covenant portions which are tense and often require strategy? That's certainly how I perceive them in the game and I remember having read something like that, but I might be wrong. It can be fun fighting them in short bursts, but the Covenant make for such incredible adversaries that you miss them once they're gone for an entire mission.

I had just the most awesome run of games in Team Slayer. 10 games, lost just once when it was shorthanded 2v3, levelled up from 24 to 36, and was first or second placed in every game but one. :D

I think Floodgate works well in particular because it's so short. That kind of gameplay gets old quickly, IMO, and the intense mood wears off after a short period as well (side note: Bioshock suffered from this, IMO). In the first two games, the Flood were used in large part as a way to create multi-front battles. Without them in Halo 3, the Cortana-Halo stretch at the end is too repetitive for me.

I am standing above Luke whipping him right now.

It was a picture he had seen in a gallery somewhere, portraying a long line of men stretching from the Great Pyramid to the very portals of great Pharaoh's house, and great Pharaoh stood with a thonged whip in his hand and applied it unmercifully to the bare back and shoulders of the man in front of him, who was great Pharaoh's chief overseer, and in the hand of the overseer was a whip of many tails which he unstintedly applied to the quivering back of the wretch before him, who was the chief overseer's chief lieutenant, and in the lieutenant's hand a whip of rawhide which he laid vigourously on the quailing body of his head sergeant, and in the sergeant's hand a wicked flail with which he belaboured a whole company of groaning corporals, and in the hands of every corporal a knotted lash with which to whack a whole regiment of slaves, who pulled and hauled and bore burdens and toiled and sweated and built the towering structure of the pyramid.

Preaching to the choir.

I'm loving the concept around the new maps. I absolutely can not wait.

Thanks for updating us on the AU. Glad to see they're taking as much time to make sure it's a flawless update without breaking something else within the game *Hi Gears of War*.

Oh, and Luke, could you provide a wallpaper version of the Weekly Update banner? :D

What is a Heroic member?

It's just a title. Similar to "Junior Member" and "Member" here on GAF. But you don't become a heroic member over time. There's something else to it, but I don't know what.

Oh. I've never noticed before, but I haven't spent much time on B.net's forums.

WHAT THE FUCK BUNGIE :'(
that was the best setting in halo 2

really? never noticed that it's not there

if it's not there and if you really want to play it in a custom, just make it neutral bomb and switch each team's bomb targets to their own base in forge and make the arm time instantaneous. it's pretty much the same thing except with a bomb instead of a flag

I'm guessing that being banned does not help in becoming a Heroic member lol. Oh the agony!!

Ooh not for me. Neutral flag was just so-so. I would rather play 1 flag CTF or CTF classic instead.
