What's the logic behind the lack of snipers on standoff? I could be smokin' dust; but I'v noticed that bungie is slowly moving away from placing snipers on symmetrical maps. Standoff, Assembly, Sandbox...

Standoff isn't symmetrical. A sniper rifle on Standoff would be nearly as devastating as a gauss hog in the hands of a competent person.

Team Flag well done Shishka. Make it a permanent playlist (swap it for Skirmish) and your sins will be absolved.

The answer is B.U.N.G.L.E.

Which reminds me. Played some custom games last night on the BUNGLE Blowout map. Much fun was had. Spawns needed some work though as not enough spawns were placed in front of each other for immediate spawn beatdown traps. :lol :lol :lol

Quote of the night was "I just got a splatter on Blackout?!?!?!" :lol

What is the HaloGAF GT? I'd like to be on it.

I'm still here but I've got some shitty things happening right now. I'm currently moving so I haven't been online in what seems like forever. I'm probably going to hook up the 360 again soon, my move got delayed so I might get around to it tonight.

Take care everyone!

Really enjoying the read. I see where Voc is coming from but Shake's response is spot on.
Definitely agree. The dialogue here has been spot on and I've enjoyed reading it all. Wish I could respond but I just found out that "BR" actually stands for "business requirements" (not battle rifle) and it's embodied in an 86 page document which I need to fully understand by next week. :-(

I don't think I've been blocked I believe he quoted me a bit ago. Really though I remember coming to this thread along time ago and I was nice saying whats on my mind. I remember posting ideas and playlists and people go yea those are good and blah blah. I CONTINUE to post lists of things that need change. We bitch all day about certain things that OBVIOUSLY need fixed (PARTY SPLITTING), but NOTHING gets done continuously over and over and the game has been out for a year and some months. It gets a bit annoying that all of you STILL suck on Bungies nuts everytime they post being quoted multiple times and you are all still so fucking happy. They aren't doing shit and a lot of us are really getting tired of MM. Before it was like fuck this and then we'd continue playing, but now I see less and less people getting on H3 (here at neogaf, i dunno if the actual numbers are lower or higher) but its quite annoying to see such a great game have such wasted potential.

I agree with most of your points, but I don't think that bashing a person will solve anything. Halo 3 MM is getting extremely stale for me. Non BR starts are a complete turn off for me. I've found myself only playing Team Snipers and MLG when I actually have time to play Halo. After saying that, I actually don't really play MM anymore. The only time I ever play Halo anymore is during the GAF customs night.
As some of you probally noticed as my Halo skills are drastically falling

A friend of mine just pointed me towards the FileShae of ske7ch and I was amazed to see Mage v2 among others (sanctum v2 and rise v2). Pretty awesome of Brian if you ask me :P

I beleive that Sanctum definately can (and should) make it into MM. Rise is a well designed map, but I just suck at it. I could definately see it working in MM as well.

As for Mage, the whole spawning in a killball should probally be fixed. :)

On that note, we still game for GAF customs on Saturday?

The game tells you nothing at that point. Zip. Zero. I only passed that part by looking it up on gamefaqs after wasting time stumbling around blindly. How was I supposed to know I was supposed to remove the panel with the anti-grav gun?
It piles on clue after clue, just because they're visual doesn't make them any less significant. And they are there, take it from somebody who beat Episode One without the slightest source of outside assistance.

But as for removing a panel with the grav gun (I assume you're talking about the panels on the energy-ball tubez)? Well, there's the fact that the first panel you run into is already detached and lying on the ground, an object I readily picked up and determined that it was in fact manipulable. Then when the door appeared on the energy-ball's side, I correctly guessed that it might be able to pulled free, tried it and bingo. The fact that there was a constant stream of energy-ball objects in a "random" tunnel at a dead-end would be the next big clue. Complaints such as this don't align you with the average player, it just establishes for this puzzle, you missed all the cues and got frustrated. That sucks, but it's not as if Valve went into this puzzle and said, "screw the testers, we're not going to give them any idea as to what's required of them, haha!"

Freeman is NOT an empty shell. I don't know why you keep insisting on this. He has a name, an appearance, qualifications, expectations from others, goals, purpose... he just doesn't speak. Actions speak louder than words, and all of his actions are pre-scripted. These restrictions define him. I guess you can decide if he's all manly about it, or some emo whiny boy, but that doesn't mean anything in the scope of the narrative.
Of course he's an empty shell, that's what he's been described as by even Valve themselves. He has a name, an appearance, and qualifications to form a spot for the player in the universe, not as a part of a multi-dimensional character design such as one used for a character like Alyx Vance. His silence isn't some weird part of an envisioned personality, it's a design decision.

I keep insisting on it because apparent and Valve's comments fall entirely in line with what I'm saying. They've talked a lot about Freeman's design, this isn't "original research" on my part.

Havok said:
Oh no no no that comment was a direct reference to the cutscene directly following The Storm in Halo 3, as an example of a scene I think actually SHOULD have been first person the whole way (as opposed to something like the opening scene of The Covenant or The Ark, where the storytelling jumps from the bridge of a cruiser to the hangar to the Pelicans very quickly, which I think would not have been served well by a first person view). Just a misunderstanding.
Sorry, my mistake.

If only someone at Bungie provided a group in which confident authors could submit their map variants. If only it mandated a submission guide that forces players to vet their own maps.

If only someone from Bungie came to GAF to tell you guys about such a group and then put the onus on yourselves to sack up by saying something like "If you think your map is matchmaking-worthy but you haven't posted it to this group, you only have yourself to blame."

As a very adroit salamander once said: "Were it so easy."

If I thought I could fix Mage up to the point where it could be played in Matchmaking, I'd get onto it and submit it. Unfortunately I've reached the limit of the budget (and my imagination) and can stretch it no further. And there are issues which would keep it from being approved, trust me :(

Fuck, maybe I'll give it one last try tomorrow and see if there's a way to make it work...

Guilt trip me you bastard

I've been on Vhfive's case for a few weeks now to get it submitted to Atlas. He certainly has enough game clips to meet the requirements. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that he is too lazy to submit it.

As for Mage, I really hope Bladed can somehow fix it up. It's a really fun map.

Now, instead of everyone bitching about the lack of user created maps in MM, how about we begin submitting some of our own?

If only someone parked the link to said group in the OP.

Not sure if I have the balls to submit one of mine, though I might eventually if I get some games on them.

I have no idea how active you are in atlas but I would bet the people there would have ways you haven't thought of to fix some problems your map might have. I imagine you have put a ton of work into Mage and it would be a shame if you didn't at least give it a go.

A Sniper Rifle on Standoff would be brutal. It's bad enough that a laser controls the map, but a Sniper (a good one, at least) would smoke guys instantly as they hop out of the base. It's best suited for a BR/Carbine and dual weapons map. I wish more maps had SMG's on them, and fewer maps with single or dual Spikers. SMG ftw!

Sniper isn't needed on Assembly (he brought that map up), and I HOPE we see some Sandbox variants added into Ranked MM so a Sniper would be added to that (my current build has one Sniper on it).

Also, a quick question about Atlas. Was Atlas ever brought up to form in advertising or whatnot in the Bungie Weekly Update? I know it's been mentioned a few weeks ago, and that's my first time knowing about it. Was it mentioned when Foundry got released (to let ForgeHubbers aware, and others)? Just wondering.

Very solid game. I played last month with Tashi and Bladed. It's no Halo, but it is fun.

Man I loved that game, probably my most played demo on Live. Shame about all the nonsense that overshadowed the game itself.

Teleporting AND seeing through walls, it hardly seemed fair, and yet it was.

And to echo others, submit that, Bladed, to Forgehub if not Atlas. Someone else might be able to see something from a different perspective.
Wow, that was actually very entertaining. Surprising since I couldn't care less about retro gaming or Megaman.

Out of curiosity, where is the sniper located? Does it replace overshield? If it's anywhere else, someone could likely make it back to the top of their base, and absolutely destroy people with the lesser amount of cover in the middle.

If only someone at Bungie would update the playlists to aid Atlas-submitted maps on their quest to Matchmaking.

If only... :)

Bungie should try selling this Atlas thing to people a little more. Put it on the front page somewhere or something. Hell, they could even let us know via Facebook lol.

I have an updated version of Ber Ber Creek. See if you guys can break out of it, I think the only possible way could be jumping from the top of blue base towards rocket wall. May also be able to jump from blue to a gap towards sniper. I couldn't get close to either jump but want to make sure.

Thanks for the many good games, GAF. Hope to play with you guys again soon.

Yup yup. Like Thermite said, it's SO. GOOD.

I think a new DBLEXP should be Team Heavies, while they remove all Heavy variants from other playlists. I think it'd be better.

the truth is i have to fix one or two things in sanctum and i got distracted with my other map
read been to lazy
. but i will fix it tomorrow.
i've also been working on my flying dutchman map. i'm redoing it so that it meets the requirements of atlas. hopefully that will also be done in time for customs on sat.

no work tomorrow means a day of forge filled fun
maybe not though if the weather is as nice as it was today

I'm curious, what needed to be fixed on it? Last time I was in it playing with some friends I really didn't see anything wrong.

Anyway, got my map into Atlas last night. The only problem is more people seem to be interested in telling other people to "read the pinned threads" than actually trying out maps and critiquing them.

top of blue base some things dont spawn in right away
straightening out of a couple columns in both red and blue base
change a couple of spawn points
and placement of koth and territories

not much really, it shouldn't take more than a half hour to do. i just haven't done it yet

Since my outdoor variant isn't a remake, but more of an inspired build, I'm still not sure what to do with overshield. A Sniper is placed on a small perch-like structure. I currently have it located on one side of the middle, similar to how many MLG maps have higher spots (except this spot isn't "higher" than the base itself).

Do you expect Territories on a small map like Mage? KotH I could see (the battle in the middle on Warlock in Halo 2 was quite a blast).Maybe he didn't put placements on Territories because so.

I figured...

Trasher is right, though. They should advertise it helluva lot more.

It was April 2nd yesterday and it is now April 3rd...when will the MLG playlist be updated with v6? Thanks.

Edit: oh and Shadowrun is an awesome fuckin game

better than Bioshock...suck it DAX :P

Can Bungie automatically turn my 360 on whenever that 3ball playlist shows up? I still need the achievement =p (and SFIV has sucked whatever Halo skills I had dry....I can pack a mean melee, though)

In case anyone owns a recent Valve game and somehow missed this feature, the developer's commentary they have put in (since Lost Coast?) is fascinating, and really details how much time and effort they put into the simplest things. There's also a lot in there about how they tell stories, and why.

I mean maybe it's just a personal preference, but some games and game developers just make me giddy with how they try to solve 'storytelling in games', and aside from the terminals, Halo isn't one of them, as much as I love most other aspects of it.

I was going to bumble my way into this discussion but here is what I was going to say, but someone beat me and said it better.

As much as I love Halo, I don't play for the story. I'll see if I can type out a silly comparison that I have in my head.

Halo is like the Starship Troopers movie, big, flashy, action packed. By no means do most viewers majorly watch it for the story, maybe a minority does.

Other games, such as Bioshock, Half Life 2, come across to me as good comparisons to the Starship Troopers novel. Although, in my opinion, they don't quite get to that level of immersion. But they try and they get better.

Hmm, maybe it sounded better in my head.
