That's what I figured. Old-Timey... or Gloomy... or both.Merguson said:Could just be one of those filters. You know, the ones for the legendary map pack.

Yeah that's it. The site they are from mentioned you can see some of the lighting filters applied to their screens.Falagard said:Ahh, that makes more sense. I never played with the filters in the legendary map pack.
Lars Bakken: Well, Forge itself didnt see any changes, but the amount of objects you have at your disposal is pretty ridiculous. We added a few new goodies specifically to Sandbox as well. On top of the screen effect filters (which are back) [you can also check them out in the screenshots T3], there are now a couple dynamic lights to throw around. There is also a new fun object we lovingly call the Kill Ball. It basically lets you set up areas where anything that enters it, will be killed. That should offer some fun new possibilities for players and map designers.
Like a magnet. That would be a good move, in my opinion.Merguson said:I think the blue grid is a way to place objects on a map with ease.
Merguson said:I think the blue grid is just a way to "snap" objects into place. Like in Forge, you can't seem to get that wall set straight. I'm going to say that the blue grid, somehow, is a way to place objects on a map with ease.

I wonder if it's the space inside it that kills you, or the actual surface of the bubble. Hopefully the latter, because I want to put spawn points inside it as a kind of purgatory. Good news, you've spawned next to the laser! Bad news, it's inside the Death Sphere, enjoy your stay.Cocopjojo said:It looks like the opposite of what the Bubble Shield originally looked like. Voc, we need you to get on this. We've got to figure out what this Ball of Death does.
Kills you? I think you're way off, dude. I am pretty positive the Death Ball is going to be some type of regenerative sort of thing. Like the Regen, except better. Maybe it can "fix" broken vehicles when you park them inside it? Hm...GhaleonEB said:I wonder if it's the space inside it that kills you, or the actual surface of the bubble. Death Ball? I think it's pretty clear that was a Bakken's statement was a bold face lie. If anything, it's a Life Ball. I know everyone is thinking about what will happen when they play in an environment with one of these things -- like what it does -- but what about using them in Forge as mortars? Back to the Edge video, maybe it is as easy as simply deleting Sandbox out of Sandbox. Forgetting all of the terrain editor, skybox stuff, toggle landscape-BS -- what if Sandbox as default is what we see here, but in Forge, there's a way that you can remove the landscape/skybox to get the blue grid plane from the Edge video -- or even just making it invisible while working on it.for the believers
For the people who are still hung up on the Edge video not being an actual gameplay environment, now that we see the blue grid here on these screenshots, as "plane" as day, why do you still feel like it was a Bungie gag before and now it's legit, but only in the way we see it in the screenshots?
I know people want to temper their expectations, and that's perfectly reasonable, but I'm just curious on the logical argument at hand. I admit, I could be wrong about any and all of what I said (I'm really good at being wrong), but I just think there's a bit of apologist sidestepping here from the original stance. First there's no blue grid at all guaranteed and now the blue grid exists, but it's definitely not the way it was in the Edge video. If we do see the blue grid plane being manipulated in Forge, what will the next argument be? Has someone started preparing this in advance? ;-P
First we need to think of a better name than "Death Ball" for it.Cocopjojo said:It looks like the opposite of what the Bubble Shield originally looked like. I wonder if it is like an extra-powerful Bubble Shield. Hmm...

What if this equipment deflects any harmful projectile shot at it? This would of course include the Gravity Hammer and the Energy Sword.CrazedArabMan said:Death Sphere. Death Ball sounds better though.

Look at the Elite in the bottom left hand corner. It seems that the blue gird lines are hovering just above the ground, not on the ground.Kibbles said:Blue grid is blue.

Notice how the grid is slightly above the surface of the map. Near the forge objects and the spartan. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Pie in the sky: The Blue Grid, notice the caps, would behave simliar to modelling software. You could choose edges/points and change the elevation and xy positions, creating the fundamental level geometry. That being said, it would probably cause problems placing forge objects, which may need a flate surface to sit on.
More realistic: Acting as a unit of measure, you can choose the number of rows and columns to set the size of your map.[/QUOTE]
You'd figure if the lines were something basic like straight edges they would have talked about them in the Q&As. Since they didn't even bother to bring them up I'm willing to guess they serve an awesome purpose and we'll have to wait till Friday or Monday to hear about it.

Kibbles said:IndeedPerhaps you can raise the blue-grid to put objects in the air nice and level without having to have to stack stuff up and delete them?
I need these maps.

Can you make stuff float in the air like that platform? Ie. lock it in air?
Secondly, the grid could be there when in forge mode, but not in other modes. Since I was right about Sandbox being what it is, I suggest that you take my guess as gospel this time around as well.![]()

DeathsackDomino Theory said:I remember way back when Tyson used to post on GAF (please come back!), I talked to him about my dream of making a "gauntlet"-esque gametype where players had a Hammer primary, invincible, and were on top of pillars. Underneath said pillars would be "infinite fire" (at that time I thought the flamethrower or flame grenades could just spew out fire for an indefinite amount of time kinda like fusion coils constantly respawning and blowing up).
He told me "for now, it's not possible because that's not how the flame grenades and flamethrower function, I'm sorry."
The Death Sphere + new blocks of geometry have arisen my dream of creating such a gametype.![]()
