I said "almost" for a reason. The lead up to the flood, running through a dark jungle with the covenant in disarray, watching the cutscene, and escaping through the forest with a mysterious blue orb were amazing to play; the first time through. The core of the level plays like ass with the flood being AI-less damage sponges and the AI structure feeling incredibly repetitive. The only fun gameplay segments came from the rare 3-way battles (something inexplicably missing throughout Halo 3) and the brief escape.
I've always enjoyed fighting the Flood (it's why I enjoy "The Library"), so that isn't a problem for me. It is longer, though more repetitive, but I really enjoyed the gameplay, so I don't mind; I don't think it plays "like ass" at all. Besides, I prefer the Forerunner setting rather than what I was given in Floodgate: the whole "abandoned alien research facility" appeals to me more because you have to wonder what all went on within those walls.

FUCK. I've been reading the Halo novels non-stop now and I'm nearly done finishing First Strike. I don't know why, but I've been getting all Halo nostalgic all of the sudden. So, I decided to re-watch the ending to Halo3 and... and...

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO MASTER CHIEF GODDAMIT!!!

I've thought it through abit. So, I figure since Bungie will be releasing ODST this Fall, that means... I'm going to have to wait at-least 2 and half more years before I find out wtf happens to Master Chief. WHAT THE SHIT!

Thanks Scarab Lord.

On a darker note. Just grouped with 4 friends to go for the Vidmaster: Annual achievement. After taming the group of giddy pals so they wouldn't blow each other to little elite pieces with those extremely powerful starting weapons Bungie have supplied us with, we managed to make it to the final run in the Ghosts, nearing the last stretch where you can see the cruiser, 72 minutes playtime on this ONE level, then the worst thing happens...

Game freezes and one of the players appears to leave the party chat. SHIT. We are booted back to the lobby in a team of 3. SHIT. We havn't got the achievement. SHIT.

That happened 10 minutes ago and my hands are still shaking.

Fictionally wouldn't make sense not to fight Elites.
Just noticed these today and thought I'd clarify -- in the article, Staten is clearly referring to a weapon, not some general reference to any sandbox element. Anything beyond the weapon framework is purely speculation at this point.

The Elites might be cool in ODST, but I wouldn't necessarily argue that the fiction requires them for that time frame since we're only really dealing with about 60 days between the two games. For all we know the first and most important wave of Regret's invasion fleet was made entirely of Elites and those groundside were destroyed by the slipspace rupture. The second element of the fleet could conceivably be composed of Brutes, which given what we know of the hierarchy was entirely possible.

So, I'm not trying to party poop or anything of the sort, but nothing Bungie has said thus far hints to me that Elites will be back apart from the obvious throwbacks to the H1 crew working on the project. I'd argue that the M6D's return is considerably more likely than the Elites.

I remember that, even though I completed the "Annual" achievement with four other people, some glitched occurred and I didn't get the achievement.

I was pretty vexed. Just give it some time (about a day or two, maybe a week), and try it again. Looking back, it was really fun to do.

I realize that, I was just extrapolating from there another direction the game might return to the earlier roots. Pure speculation on my part. It would make sense on multiple levels.

Yeah, where is it?

I'm actually beginning to come around and think that Team Slayer (w/ AR starts) is not the worst gametype in the world. Heavies is. What the fuck was Bungie thinking putting a shitload of lasers and rockets on this map? Can't we just fucking play with vehicles that don't explode every second? Fuck, that was terrible judgment including it in Squad.

Sounds like someone just got rocked :lol

Heavies should have more rockets and less lasers.

Heavies is so close to being a lot of fun. IMO. There are just too many Lasers.

If all the lasers were replaced with rockets, that would be fine. Or just one laser in a place where each team has an equal chance of getting it at the beginning of the game, and in that situation, have vehicles with really short respawn periods.

Of course, and I agree. It does work on multiple levels with the fiction.

I don't know if we could say that he is clearly referring to a weapon in the sentence before he is talking about weapons but then to me it sounded like he switched gears and was talking about a different element. I am still on the side that thinks he was referring to elites.

Edit:
Q: Are you planning to include any other new weapons, or modifications to existing weapons?

A:Because ODST leverages the Halo 3 sandbox, there will be a lot of returning weapon favorites. But given the game's position on the Halo timeline, we're also bringing back...Well, on second thought, I'd ruin a lot of the game's fun if I got too specific. So let me just say that we're absolutely expanding the sandbox in critical areas.

That could possibly be referring to the pistol, but the next sentence wouldn't really make sense to me if it was talking about another returning weapon. It could just be because I don't want the Halo 1 pistol back but definitely want Elites back :D

Mythic Map Pack - Possible Skull hints.

Sandbox skull hides where you least expect it.
Assembly skull is in the green.
Longshore skull enjoys the beach.
Orbital skull likes to fly.
Heretic skull rules.
Citadel skull got a vehicular manslaughter.

Nothing specific, if legit, it shouldn't ruin any skull hunting much.

Hmm. Found this randomly posted on the HiH forum. Guy that posted it claimed it was front page worthy and then said nothing else about it. Could be bullshit, but worth nothing.

Probably more interesting than what Sandbox is is finding out how these six skulls will fit into Halo 3.Will we be able to find them in the H3 campaign? Are they somewhere in the multiplayer maps if we load up some special game variant of them?

I was really excited to play as an ODST, until I pushed on in "Fall of Reach" earlier. Got to the part where John starts to realise he has been augmented with better reflexes, improved strengh etc.

Then those jackass ODST's come in, all macho. John politely tries to apologize and they turn on him. So John does what any product of the Spartan 2 program would do, engages them as they are a threat. Then Sergeant Tubbz enters the room and orders the ODST's and John to fight in the boxing ring.

So to stop himself being surrounded, John takes the Shock Troopers out quickly, believing he is doing what he was ordered. In walks Chief Mendez, dismissing Sergeant Tubbz and calling some paramedics for the injured and outclassed ODST's. It turns out John killed those ODST's with his bare hands!

Morale of the story, Master Chief John 117 is so much more badass than the ODST's could ever be. Expectations lowered, for some reason, playing as a normal soldier with average reflexes and normal strengh just deflates my hype for Halo: ODST. I will still buy it for the awesomenesssss that is hostile Elites, please Bungie bring them back.

The Chief is indeed a bad ass but being weaker in a game can make it more thrilling and thus more fun. I like to imagine the brute chieftains being the equivalent of a tank in L4D and fighting them will induce the same sort of adrenaline rush.

Obvious OSTD won't be significantly harder as it's a videogame and not some sort of Brute vs. Human simulator but I'm really interested in seeing how Bungie balances the game with the weaker characters.

Very true, and perhaps after 3 games, a fresh experience might be welcome. something inside me however still pains for Halo 4, where I can re-ignite the fight. RYHME.

I s'pose I'm just going to have to get used to not hearing, "Hey look, is that a SPARTAN?!" every 5 minutes. plus I love jumping onto enemies heads and meleeing.

I've heard rumblings that the update is out. I'mma hop on to confirm. We need to get a group going to pop this cherry.

Edit: Confirmed

Fuck it took me 6 wins in a row to go from a 45 to 46 in SWAT. >.< So I need to win about 24 wins in a row to get to a 50. Awesome. :lol

Dani, Echo Eagle and I just had a great match on The Pit despite having two of our team mates drop out in the pre-game lobby. More targets equal way more kills (well, for me at least).

Just finished First Strike.

Holy Shit. The ending was SEX.

By far the best book in the series. Well, so far that is :p I'm starting the Ghosts of Onyx tonight and I'm gonna see how that goes.

I must admit, after reading First Strike I give +1 respect points to Bungie. If anything, there should be an animated series or movie mirroring this book. I swear it would be so freaking awesome. Actually, come to think of it, there should be an animated series for FoR too.

Resisting urge to play Halo1-Halo3

The only weapons/weapon tweakings that I can think of being brought back are scoped pistols and rocket launchers that can still auto-lock. What else is there?
