Its a positive piece. I'm happy to see them looking forward to it. Earlier I was not interested in H3O at all but after reading a few articles here and there along with the little info that trickles out of BWUs, my curiosity is piqued.

With all the crap surrounding Mythic and lack of anything coming from Bungie on the game (bar some nice concept art), that write up actually reminded me of why I'm excited about the game.

Luke, you posted a wallpaper-sized image of your drawing of Assembly, any chance of a wallpaper-sized image of the Sandbox drawing? Or was the picture in the BWU the true size?

EDIT: 5 hours is okay by me, but not for more than $30.

Dunno about anyone else, but 3 to 5 hours was what I was expecting from this, seeing as I always pictured it as an episode of what happens while the Chief wasn't there...

Plus there's the new MP maps of course...

3-5 hours is okay if its a budget title. it will have 4 player online co-op and the full h3 multiplayer - so far, maybe there will be more?. we haven't even seen the game.

There is more. I don't remember where, but they still haven't revealed a majority (or close to it) of the multiplayer aspects of the game.

i expect at least one new mp mode (maybe odst, since the guys will play different).
i really hope bungie includes a lot of unlockable stuff (artworks, music, cheats, videos, unlockable luke skin). i dont think they will need the full dvd9, so there should be enough room for that.

Considering it's a Halo game, co-op online 4 player and most likely will have skulls (please!!), I'd say there should be enough. However, more is always good. Cheats? There hasn't been any cheats in any of the Halo games IFAIK, but an easter egg or two couldn't hurt (scarab gun?!).

i dont mean cheats like "infinite health" or "unlimited ammo". stuff like 200% speed, low gravity, big heads, new weapon skins would be nice.

There's some of that stuff with the silver skulls - IWHBYD and Grunt Birthday Party are the ones that spring to mind. They're very careful to make sure that they don't affect the core gameplay, though, which big heads and sillier gravity would do.

Perhaps a new deeper version of Forge?

3-5 hours is a long time, guys. In three hours today I've done some laundry, washed the dishes, did a little shopping, and watched an episode of Judge Alex.

:lol It was a valiant attempt good sir. But I think I'm going to retire Flight because Dax and BlueBlur don't like it.

For the last week or so Eurogamer has been running previews of games coming in 2009. They finally covered 'Shooters & Racers' today, and their 'Star Attraction' in the former category is ODST (which has caused some bitching and moaning from the usual quarters in the accompanying comments thread).

3 hours seems mighty short. I mean doesn't CE's Halo (a hub-like level) take about an hour to complete itself? Well it may be a much more dense experience but when I imagine ODST I think of walking slowly through a ruined city for hours marinating in a thick batter of atmosphere. I suppose my expectations are a little high but it'd be nice if MS allowed this to come out with a cheaper price tag.

If my memorize serves me correct the Halo 3 MP component will not be included with ODST, just the maps which will probably be on a code card like the Gears Flashback Maps. There's been hints at another MP component but if I had to guess I'd say it will be3 within the hub-world co-op experience as the additional maps support Halo 3's competitive mode and anything similar in ODST would sort of cannibalize their different experiences.

This is a game for the fans so it would be awesome if they just went crazy with easter eggs and skulls. Think Goldeneye 64; "beat this level with these conditions and unlock the golden gun (golden Halo CE pistol)".

Pretty sure they confirmed a while back that there would not be a deeper/different forge mode.

LOL you know I almost always got you, dude. :)

Although it is kinda funny when you sign on to use the first day of the 1 month then you're gone for the rest of the 29 days. :lol
Yeah, I shouldn't have used it so early. Was too busy with school. =/

I will only accept a CtFSHCPR*, benchmarked against Halo 3, of 6. By this standard, and assuming the average of 3-5 hours of playtime (that would be four), Halo 3 ODST cannot cost more than $20. I hope you take this under advisement.

*Cost to First Solo Heroic Campaign Playtime Ratio

Halo 3 playtime estimated at 12 hours

Whoop-de-doo about the playlist changes coming tomorrow, nothing significant there.

Nice little article up on Bnet now with some tips for taking screenshots for the camera-challenged among us. Pretty cool, I definitely didn't even know some of that stuff.

While it's not going to be a game-changing update that makes the Halo 3 experience fresh as flowers and makes us forget we are still months away from the Mythic maps it's a really healthy change.

For those that have forgotten/didn't catch the changes (I've bolded the ones that make me happy):

Social Hopper Updates

Rumble Pit

* DLC FFA and Rumble Pit will be merged. Rumble Pit will now require All DLC, and include gametypes such as Infection.

Social Slayer

* Population increased back to 5v5
* Isolation, Foundry removed.

Social Objective

* Slightly reduce weighting on Land Grab, and increase weighting on multi flag to even distribution of these two gametypes out.
* Reduce weighting of VIP. Set to skip after veto.
* Territories variants set to skip after veto.
* ADDED Social Team DLC
* 5v5 Slayer and Objective strictly on DLC maps. Heroic and Legendary map packs required.
* The most popular slayer and objective variants, strictly on DLC maps.

Multi Team

* Reduce weighting of VIP, KOTH, and Oddball.
* Some maps being removed from rotation.

ADDED Social Big Team

* DLC Big Team will be moved and renamed. Weighting between DLC and non-DLC maps will be equalized. The hopper will continue to require DLC 1 and 2.

DLC Hopper Updates

REMOVED DLC FFA

* DLC FFA and Rumble Pit will be merged. DLC FFA as a separate hopper is retired.

MIGRATED DLC Big Team

* Being moved to Social and being renamed “Social Big Team.” Non-DLC maps are getting a weighting increase such that they are equal to DLC maps. Still requires DLC 1 and 2.

Hardcore Hopper Updates

Team SWAT – No Changes
Team Snipers
- Reduced weighting on Standoff.
MLG – No Changes

Eh, they only made significant changes to Social games, which I don't play much anyways.

I had wished a certain round circle on the bottom left corner got removed in Snipers, but maybe next time! :lol

Holy shit. So far in First Strike is the best book in the series. It is as good, if not better, than Fall of Reach. The only thing I don't like about it is apparently Nylund decided it would be a great idea to re-cap the end of the previous chapter at the beginning of the new chapter. Does he not trust us to remember an event that we read two pages back???

Oh, and I hate Ackerson. If Bungie put him in one of the games I would gladly shoot him over and over and over. Then I'd make a gif of it and use it as my avatar. Two more books after this, I hope they're as good as this one is so far.

New GamePro ODST interview. [edit] Wow I failed. Here's the link :lol - http://www.gamepro.com/article/previews/208610/halo-3-odst-interview-with-bungies-joseph-staten/

omg
Q: Are you planning to include any other new weapons, or modifications to existing weapons?

A:Because ODST leverages the Halo 3 sandbox, there will be a lot of returning weapon favorites. But given the game's position on the Halo timeline, we're also bringing back...Well, on second thought, I'd ruin a lot of the game's fun if I got too specific. So let me just say that we're absolutely expanding the sandbox in critical areas.

The books, IMO, just keep getting better and better. Contact Harvest being my favorite personally.

About Elites, here's something to further speculate on that I missed first time around with that article.

As a non-Spartan, you'll need to be careful about the fights you pick, especially when you're on your own. Luckily the silenced SMG excels at dropping unwary, unshielded enemies.

Unshielded enemies? Aren't all enemies (from Halo 3) unshielded? Brutes have armour, but no shields, so why would he specify unshielded?

Ah right, Elites have shields...

You make a valid point. The elites are the only enemies with shields (minus sentinels) in the trilogy. Unless of course you count jackels.

In the context of Halo games, shields would be the ones the player experiances most, ie, what MC and elites have.

It's hard to imagine a jackel's shield being useful if taken by surprise, you'd kill it. A shielded Elite taken by surprise? Well, you've told him where you are.

These ODST aren't Spartans. A jackal? Yeah, I can't see them being a problem. Elites? Well, shit...

I think it was Voc who brought that up a few days ago. Given the time line ODST takes place in - immediately after Truth's ship enters slipspace, causing the wreckage in New Mombasa - humans and Elites are still enemies. Fictionally wouldn't make sense not to fight Elites.

Yeah, just trying to unravel the clues Bungie gives us.

Love the whole new villain thing, I wonder if Voc has any ideas. Interesting that you never meet him or her.
