don't do it :(

I was 43, but yea, it's basically new account city in there.

I knew Voc wouldn't let me down!

ok, I'll take this thread in a good direction, for any one of you with a capture card, I'm looking for one that is external (I have a laptop), and is compatible with 64 bit vista, I don't care about price, the cheaper the better. This is on topic because I want it to record Halo 3 clips, gamevee is good but I want something I can control.

Pretty sure I've been playing 6v6 Avalanche for months now and havin' a blast, weird. Couldn't care less about Sandtrap really...
It's better for 8v8 because more vehicular interaction and combat fights. With 6v6, it's more plagued because of two less players per team.

Last Resort, Valhalla, and Standoff are the best maps for 6v6.

Silent Cartographer, great level or greatest level?

If they replaced all the enemies with those from halo 3 (and kept in the elites) then it would beat every other halo thing ever.

Dammit, Bungie, remake this one level right now.

ark = assault on the control room

AOTCR is a classic though (one of the best single player maps ever made for any game to date) and Silent Cartographer is far behind

1) Campaign: AR, it's iconic, a good all rounder and it just reminds me of Halo: CE.
Multi: BR, because it's far more accurate. I don't like it as much and still find myself using the AR is casual matches, but the BR is the smarter option.

2) The start of Halo 3 when Chief is being tracked before he hits the ground, the Halo 3 after-credits ending (inc Legendary) and of course the Halo: CE title screen monks.

3) All of The Silent Cartographer, Assault on the Control Room and The Ark.

Br because it's better against long ranged weapons such as snipers and other Br's.

Riding on the warthog in Halo 1, hearing the main theme, with the drums kickin in and then the strings...awesome

Driving on that Warthog on the last mission in Halo 3, making those crazy jumps and then final jump...standing up, me and my buddies screaming, hoping to make that jump...thank you 4 player co-op

The things that keep me coming back to this game...

Having this be kill #100 in an epic BTB Slayer match.

Also, more pic spam incoming, since Gamevee is slow.

The Ark, greatest level in the Halo series.

Probably, though I can never decide whether I like The Ark, Assault on the Control Room or The Silent Cartographer better.
Easily my top three.

Halo (from Halo: CE), The Covenant (Halo 3), Tsavo Highway (Halo 3) and The Truth and Reconciliation (Halo: CE) are also worth a mention.

If Gamevee were taking less than a full day to process clips, I'd just toss this in the queue. But it is, so you're stuck with me.

Nothing like blindsiding the other team while cloaked in the opening moments of a game. SMG FTW.

02.jpg

A new challenger appears.

03.jpg

Don't feel bad. They can't see me either.

04.jpg

They do now, though.

05.jpg

Somehow, I managed to stick the 'Hog right between the passenger and driver seats, inside the cabin. Note: if you want to make a Warthog fly, that's the place to stick it. Note also I tagged it while still in front of the Blue base.

06.jpg

And we have lift off. The Warthog vaults forward off the hill.

07.jpg

At this point they've just completed a full forward flip, and don't plan to stop there.

08.jpg

Two front flips complete now. And then they take off again.

09.jpg

You can see where this is going. Still airborn, still flipping end over end. The gunner, bless his heart, is still firing, clutching the firing mechanism for dear life.

010.jpg

What a lovely view.

011.jpg

Seriously, it's gorgeous.

012.jpg

Stick point: in front of the corner of the base. Launch point: the charred grass in front of the rock. Three complete flips later, they're going all Thelma and Luise.

It. Was. Epic. Ya had to be there.

My favourite Halo series encounter has to be the epic three way battle near the end of Two Betrayals against 3 Wraiths and a turret. There are so many ways to tackle the encounter and all of them are equally fun and epic.

I usually take the sniper and the rocket launcher and rain hell on the Covenant from the elevated position just outside the range of the Wraith's plasma mortar. This usually results in the death of all of the Elites and most of the Jackals in the initial batch of enemies. At least one Wraith usually bites the dust too either because I killed it with the Spnkr or because the Flood blasted it to hell.

If I have some rockets left they are sent on their way towards the Hunters emerging from behind the rocks. If everything went well I should have two sniper rounds left that make short work of the Gold Elite. About now I'm usually ambushed by two invisible Elites with plasma rifles which is awesome because I need to replace my sniper. Sometimes a stray plasma mortar kills them off halfway across the plateau and I have to expose myself to turret and mortar fire in order to pick up the plasma rifle.

After that I just rush in with the Ghost I parked on top of the hill and then I have some fun with the remainder of the Covenant troops.

I have all that shit memorized but the fun part is when something goes wrong and you have to adapt. Sometimes the RL Flood forms come for you, not for the Wraiths and you have to dodge rockets and plasma mortars in a mad dash to reach the Banshee and bail out.

The whole sequence leading up to that part after you leave the caverns and Under The Cover Of Night starts playing is the most breathtaking stuff I've ever experienced in a game (Best music moment right there). After having played Halo 2 and Halo 3 I have to say that there are now several levels (Quarantine Zone, The Ark, The Covenant) that challenge or even beat Two Betrayals as a whole but no other level ever come close to that encounter and the sequence leading up to it.

Two Betrayals isn't just AotCR in reverse and the rest of the level is top notch stuff too. The bridge runs are always fun on Legendary as are the vehicle encounters which are the best in the game. One of the aspects that makes Two Betrayals so special in comparison to most other popular Halo levels is that you are alone. There are no allies, no Sentinels or Marines that help you (AotCR is similar in that aspect only) and you feel isolated throughout the level. If you use your brain and guerilla tactics in the three way battles it's almost as if you had allies, the difference being that you kill off what's left after the battle is over :D

Take out key players in these battles, like mortar grunts, Gold Elites, vehicles or turrets and you change the outcome of the battle. You are left with a weakened foe and with a bit of luck only one enemy is left standing. It's a shame that the sequels never took that formula and improved on it. Quarantine Zone is the only level out of both sequels that features big three way battles, sometimes even way bigger than anything on Two Betrayals. So Bungie, whatever your're working on, INCLUDE THREE WAY BATTLES PLEASE.

How's that for an early morning post :lol (7am here)

Ghaleon, I had the exact same moment happen to me except over at the other base. I stuck the hog on the bumper though and that proved to be a great spot for making a warthog do some somersaults as well! I'll have to upload that one on Gamevee sometime.

Btw, I never really looked at the background of this map before until you posted this shot.

Awesome post.

Halo CE was such a unique experience for me at the time. I could play the same segment over and over again (and intentionally did so many times by committing suicide before a checkpoint) because the combat was nothing like I'd ever come across. The games I played previously like Super Mario 64, Zelda: OoT, and Goldeneye couldn't compare at all.

AotCR was my favorite level because I've always been a whore for the vehicles and anything without the flood. Walking out from inside onto a white expanse of sandbox-ity was incredible. Sometimes I'd go for the tried and true routine to see how efficiently I could complete the segment. Other times I would approach it in an entirely unique way or vulnerable way to see if I can wiggle my way through.

There's no doubt that Bungie improved on this formula from Ce to 2, and from 2 to 3, but it was CE's timing (either in relation to only what I'd played or maybe even anything that'd been released before) that made it much more memorable than its later iterations. This is probably the chief reason why I want Bungie to do something entirely new, to hit that incomparable, unique experience once again.

=)

Agreed. I played religiously those same three games that you named, but nothing compares to the amount of time I spent with Halo 1, just like you said, playing each encounter over and over again. For years. I used to "revert" in an awesome encounter right before I'd hit the next checkpoint.

For me, the area between "The Tunnels Below" all the way to the end of "Final Run" for the level, Two Betrayals, was easily the best combat - encounter by encounter - in the entire trilogy. I played that section for six months straight, not touching another game or even level within the same game. I just kept reloading the same sequence and replaying it.

For six months straight.

1. The AR...that's how I got my 47. Once BR starts were introduced, I was forced to adapt :(
2. "Finish The Fight" (the resolve and the endurance is almost palpable; it gives me goosebumps), "Never Forget" (I loved it so much that I learned to play it myself on the piano), & "Roll Call"
3. The battle with all of those Elites in Halo 2 near beginning. I was surprised and relieved to find that I wasn't the only one who found that part to be nearly impossible. Now that I think back on it, it reminds me of the Mile High Club achievement in COD4. But finally succeeding was incredibly satisfying.

I'm so glad to see some Two Betrayals love in here :D

It's shares the title of most underrated level of the trilogy with Quarantine Zone. The quality of both levels is completely lost on people who only play them once. There are many little details about both levels that you only learn to appreciate if you play them several times in a row. Otherwise the player wouldn't even notice them.

I always wondered whether Quarantine Zone is a homage to Two Betrayals. They share the night setting, the three way battles and a very similar environment. There is a big focus on vehicles in both levels and Quarantine Zone even ends with a betrayal (by Tartarus). The main difference are the presence of allies, without whom the level would simply be to hard, and the race with Miranda and Johnson for the index which is probably the freshest and best presented objective in Halo 2.

It would've been pretty neat if Halo 3 had it's own version of that environment and the concept behind both levels with it's own unique additions. The Ark shares a lot of elements with both QZ and TB but in other ways it's completely different.

I hope you're joking EazyB since I've been occassionally posting in this thread before your giant slappy fight with juices began over whatever it is you're having a slappy fight about. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised if you aren't joking and don't genuinely know who I am since I haven't gotten caught up in any of the bickering and so you probably don't recognise my s/n.

This thread is fun to read through when I get shown stuff like the Halo 3 Myth Busters videos and get ideas about wacky and/or fun stuff I should try when playing but more often than not you guys just seem to be bickering about some pointless shit. It's pretty tedious.

EazyB is always serious business.

Right.....eazy...?

Spartan Laser [I'm a god!]

Probably the opening scene from The Covenant, or the closing one.

Too many to count.

I'd guess that there were a good number of things in Halo 3 which were cut during from being implemented because of time constraints or the inability to adequately test it over other more relevant features. We're just not hearing about them now because there's no reason for us to. Not until "Halo 4" will there be a reason to really discuss things they wanted in Halo 3 but couldn't get to work in time. That being said, I think Quarantine Zone easily had the most potential for Halo 2, but its beaten out (in my opinion), by levels like Metropolis, Delta Halo, Uprising and Great Journey. Like so much else in Halo 2, the core problems with this level lead back to sandox design - in this case, the homing rocket launcher.
