The lack of PS5 Patches is really upsetting me at this point

PS5 has entered its 6th month and most PS4 hits don’t have a PS5 patch yet.

I am not asking for remasters, just a patch that does what Xbox One|Series X are capable of doing natively thanks to their superior backward compatibility.
I want to play those games at native 4K and / or unlocked framrates.

Even sony games don't have them in 99% of the cases. Ratchet & Clank is perfectly capable to run at 4K and 60fps and was patched weeks after being give for free, c'mon sony.

I am not saying that old games noone cares about should be patched but big blockbusters released recently? What are you waiting for?

Then coul sony please provide a boost mode that does exactly what they are doing on Xbox? it ca be optional like it was on PS4 Pro and it's not perfect nobody is going to complain because it's optional.

The bigger ones have patches though? God of War, Tsushima, Days Gone, R&C, some VR titles. Only ones missing are Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last of Us II. Guerilla is hard at work with Forbidden West (gladly, because I wasn't planning on spending another 100 hours on HZD) and Naughty Dog is busy with Factions II, TLoU II PS5 and perhaps TLoU Remake.

Agree.

Well, sort of.

I have a PC fortunately and a PS5, but MS is killing it with BC and Boosts to older titles. It is definitely their strength along with Game Pass (doesn't appeal to me but does for loads of people).

Sony excel in 1st Party games but that isn't going to carry them far this gen if MS keep up their new strategy.

Oh yeah, j didn't played last guardian and driveclub, completely forgot about them.

Although they are not as big as some other games, but you have a point.

Microsoft have a dedicated wing with multiple talented coders working on these patches from their point of view.
With these patches comes with some sort of compromise such as BFV 900p 120fps.

Sony don't have the resource that MS have to put together than kind of team and for no profit other than pleasing some niche fans who most likely don't have 120fps compatible TVs.

I would like it too, but its down to cash and the patches for BFV etc are not by the original dev company in my understanding.

These will either come from the original devs or from a dedicated back combat team in Sony which doesn't exist and likely won't.

At least Sekiro runs in a solid, flawlessly, sexy 60fps.
i love seeing console owners being so happy with 60fps. bet you can't go back to 30fps now!

i can't go back to 60fps after playing games at 165fps :messenger_smiling_hearts:. 60fps is like the absolutely bare minimum. if my FPS goes below 90fps it pisses me off. the sweetspot is 90-120fps :messenger_ok: 120-165fps is god tier :messenger_horns:

I love how fanboys always stand up for Sony no matter what... they are terrible regarding BC patches, just accept it.

MS is also working on new games, more and more complex new games than Sony BTW and still manages to work on BC patches across their entire ecosystem. It's not an excuse.

Sony released returnal, Astro, sackboy, demon souls, Spider-Man, tlou2, ghost of tsushima and soon ratchet.

What new games has released MS in the last 365 days?

This post sounds a bit suspicious to me as well. MS is working on new games, well I hope so. More complex than Sony games based on what? Their recent track record regarding exclusives isn't great, and the quality of Halo is in doubt.

MS has nothing to offer right now, which is kind of the point. I'm sure Sony is working on new games as well, but they can boast they have some native PS5 software on the shelves already. Not even that much either, but more than MS which has about nothing yet.

Sony studios are busy making new games.

The resources required for such ports are minimal and they seem to be busy porting games on PC which is much harder.

But it does have boost mode.

How? it's just running games with poor framerate on PS4 better.
The only thing that would have happened anyway without any other effort required.

I won't buy remasters of PS4 games anyway.

It's embarassing to see all those PS4 "Definitive Editions" that are not running at 4K or 60fps

A lot of games got patches, so there isn't all that much to be upset about.

Please list them.

Sony really fucked up with backward compatibility.

It wasn't great with PS4 Pro but that was fine since it wasn't as powerful as OneX and they could have been lagging behind Microsoft.

Now 4 years later they are unable to give us a decent backward compatibility on console that shouldn't have problems running old games at 4K 60fps.

Series X does it and it does it by having a better software behind the curtains.

BFV hasn't been patched as such, it's a system level hack.

lol, everything you post is basically saying Xbox is superior. And what BC for PS4 do you even mean? It had no BC.

Its your opinion, which is fine. But you sure you have a PS5?

IMO it should not patch old games and focus in new games.

After all you can play old games without patch on the machine.

They did not fuck up. They choose to prioritise next generation over last generation. The fact that the XSX is so good at BC is also the very reason it does not reach its full paper potential in next generation games. Hardware BC requires next-generation compromises. Some people pretend as if this is not the case but the size of the arrays etc are all part of this compromise (together with the double-function of the SKU to act as a server blade ) - there is a performance cost attached to the hardware BC and the server blade functionality in terms of next generation games.

Personally I think it is great that there are choices. If you like BC the MS ecosystem is the place to be. If you want next generation games PS5 is the place to be.

I have both systems, and it goes both ways imo.

Xbox has good support for classic games, like NG2 being boosted and auto HDR. But there a ton of classic games that do not work, or are not available. PS5 (and PS4) ofcourse, can't play PS3 games. But it does play nearly every single PS4 game under the sun and not worse than on the PS4 itself. It seems all games benefit from faster load times. And the most significant ones are patched (BB and TLOU2 not, but Sony will no doubt do something with these). They aren't completely overhauled with HDR and native 4k, but the likes of God of War, Days Gone and Tsushima do look stellar on PS5 regardless.

PS5 on top of that, has actual new games. Which I think is more important, but each to his own. I play more on PS5, but some games, like R-Type, will be X enhanced and not PS5 enhanced so I buy that on Xbox. And some classics are better on Xbox.

For real, do you actually think it’s an either or situation?

Rare patched Sea of Thieves despite working on Everwild. 343i patched Halo: MCC despite working on Infinite. The Coalition patched Gears 5 despite working on Hivebusters and Gears 6. Playground patched Forza Horizon 4 despite working on Forza Horizon 5 and Fable. Obsidian patched The Outer Worlds despite working on its DLC, Grounded and Avowed. Due to MS’s back compat solution old classics like Skyrim, Fallout 4, Prey, Dishonoured, Titanfall 2 and more have all seen massive resolution bumps with no effort. None of this has stopped MS from investing in games like Perfect Dark and they still have games like Starfield coming from Bathesda.

Sony have just posted record profits, do you really think it’s beyond the realms of possibility or expectation for them to employ a small team to work on back compat so they have some sort of rival solution?

Everything is either is any Job.
You need time and money to do anything... if you choose that you are not working or using that money in something else.

I don’t thing PS4 games needs patch... they are already great games without that.

BTW see what happens when you put money and time in the right place... another one with Returnal... must to have game that I will play tomorrow and never bother with a patch to PS6 lol

When does Perfect Dark come out and were you impressed by the trailer? Starfield they have because they went out and just purchased Bethesda. Infinite, well, I will play it on GP but I hope its better than Halo 4 and 5.

Those games you mention didn't get resolution boosts, they got framerate boosts. MS does gamble more on certain BC, but right now the Series still has no real new game yet.

At least DS3 is 60fps, probably the only thing better on PS5 than Series X when it comes to BC.

For me personally thats more important than most other games, but yeah it would be nice to see some more games run in 60fps in BC on the PS5.

Not a dealbreaker by any means though, an old game running in 60fps/120fps is still less interesting than a brand new game.

Here's my list of Sony 1st party games that I think should be on the table for an update.

  • Bloodborne
  • Concrete Genie
  • Gravity Rush 2
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • The Last Guardian
  • The Last of Us Part II
  • The Order 1886
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (Already 1080p60 but a boost to 1440p60 or 4k60 would be nice)
  • Uncharted 4
  • Uncharted: Lost Legacy
The Naughty Dog games just seem to be such obvious candidates to me. The Uncharted games are probably sharing a lot of their tech, so I imagine making them run in 60 fps is going to require similar changes. SOTC also seems like a no brainer since they already have a 1080p60 mode on PS4P, so they would just need to uncap the frame rate in the high-res mode to match. TLG can be played in 60fps if you use a disc and don't update, but it's a bit wonky and apparently has some game-breaking bugs. I bet those could be fixed with a patch, though.

Edit: TLOU2 got dat patch.

Upset over PS4 games playing like PS4 games... Nice

Anything Sony decides to do to patch PS4 Games to run better on the PS5 is a Bonus not an obligation.

If you were upset of about no VRR or NVME expansion ability 6 months after launch then I could understand being a bit upset but the fact that the games work on the PS5 should be enough and everything else is gravy.

ND should be blamed to not bring MP Factions... that is the only think they needs to focus ASAP.

It should have be released packed with TLOU2 and now we are in the forever waiting loop.
