Played around 6 hours of it now that it's free. Played a few games on Casual with Nash, even though I heard he's pretty weak right now. It's fun and I'm thinking of buying the game but I'm not sure about the pricing model. AE seems like it's fairly priced but it doesn't include S3 and I assume there's also a S4 now. The price of one character with FM is also quite a lot for the amount of money I get right now.

S4 is just one character, Kage, as far as anyone knows.

I'd say go with AE. For Season 3 charatcers I bought Sakura, Sagat, and G with my FM earnings, and Kage as well, I'm personally not interested in the rest of the cast I don't have. Once you have the game, doing the character stories, demonstrations, trials, and the survival modes will net you enough FM to get a few characters.

There's no real S4 yet, but there's something coming soon.
AE is a great deal though, it's frequently on sale too.

Hate to bring this up in here, but I still cant believe how inconsistent the graphics are in this game. Just watched a bit of Imstilldadaddy playing mk11 and it looks so fucking good. SFV’s graphics pale in comparison. Inconsistent character design, low res textures, 30 fps backgrounds, and poor performance on console. How did this happen? Was capcom on the verge of going under when they made this game?

The obvious answer here would be that MK11 is a 2019 game and not a 2016 one. A fairer comparison would be MKX which released in 2015 and does look similar to SFV although is more realistic.

I think it looks decent for the most part, I prefer the overall look to 4 but I wish the stages were a little more interesting. Either way, I play these games for the mechanics not the graphics, I'd still take 2016 Capcom 2D plane fighting over 2019 NRS 2d plane fighting.

So my girlfriend is crazy awesome. She came back from a trip home to Korea this week and floored me by bringing back one of these bad boys for me:

Never tried a korean stick setup before, this thing comes stock with the Taeyoung Fanta, and holy shit does it ever feel stiff compared to the JLF. The korean sticks use a totally different system with no gates, and rubber grommets for tension, going to take some getting used to I think but it feels very high quality. The matte stick is taking some getting used to as well, I might end up swapping the Fanta for a different Korean stick of some kind.

It also comes with the quiet Sanwa buttons, and man what a difference those make. I bought Seimetsu buttons for my last stick, because I read that Sanwas are overly sensitive and you can't even rest your fingers on them without activating the switch. From my experience here, that is completely not true, they feel totally fine, and I absolutely love how quiet they are.

The game looks fine, it's an artstyle choice; the animations are still uncontested and no amount of cinematic cameras, superfluous particle effects or facial mocap is going to change that.

I was watching some streams the other day for MK11, and I can't get over how weird half of the jumps look. Their models look great but it always looks jank in motion to me.

Disagree. SFV looks fantastic aside from some stages being in 30fps and the animation beats out MK11 by far. It has a clear identity and stands out from the crowd with its colourful and dynamic palette while MK11 more or less looks the same as MKX with its blandness. I do agree the character models are much sharper but that’s because NRS released the game in 2019.

Tried the new characters for a bit.
Poison is completely different from how she was in SF4 and seems to be really good at controlling space.
Her VT1 seems to be really really good at burst damage, while her VT2 is all about the creating fear for the unblockable whip.
She looks best in her story and battle outfit imo; the default, nostalgia and summer are alright I guess.
I love how she checks her heels after the flip kick.

Honda, is well Honda.
Both his VT seems to be pretty powerful though, though I think VT2 with its deadly corner carry is gonna get more use.
Haven't used him that much yet, but his VT should make him pretty strong overall.

Lucia is dope. From the trailers I couldn't really tell, but she's really fast and is a pure rushdown character.
Not sure about her VT2 usage, but the free EX moves from VT1 are pretty great.
Also not in the trailer, but her CA actually straight up explodes right after the kick; it's excessive and I love it.
Summer, nostalgia and story costumes aren't that great, but the battle costume is pretty cool.
Also love how she taps her foot to make the flames go out after a fireball.

With the short time I spent, I feel like poison is probably the strongest out of the three, her VTs are just scary.
Will be using Lucia for a bit.

R Reizo Ryuu any tips for getting these Honda HHS combos? I can't for the life of me connect the EX after J.HK, st.MP, st. LP in trial 9. I'm not sure exactly what I should be doing to make this happen easier, I'm mashing like crazy after the LP and usually I just get a whiffed MP.

Edit: nvm, I got it! I think they reduced the requirements for mashing specials to 4 presses, which makes this easier. I'm using a stick and needed to put 3P on punch row macro. I do the jump in kick, then the MP, and as that is connecting mash out 3 LPs, the instant it connects I use my pinky for the 3P and get the EX.

I also finally figured out pianoing and it makes some of these combos feel really fun, it's amazing how a new technique can just feel like a whole world has opened up to you lol. His Trial 10 is so fun with the pianoing down from HP for the mid HHS, then another piano from HP and back again for the second HHS, then his VT's into CA just feels awesome.

Ah, I didn't realize Arcade Edition had a separate OT.
Just bought the three new characters and tried them out. Lucia reminds me of Ken with her flaming kicks, especially her super move. I like Poison's new moves and Honda plays just how I'd expect (which is a good thing). Honda's stage look great in 3D as well, glad to see it return.

So i got bored of playing with Ed and finally decided to sink into Rainbow Mika, what fucking amazing character.

There is so much that's offputting in this game, style wise... I know, these are design choices, but still..

Half the cast has weird ugly faces and/or ugly monster feet, and don't get me started on Chun Lis oversized thighs... I know, they are supposed to be a bit stronger, but they really went completely silly overboard with it.

Lucia has the best CA in the game.

Yeah hands is 4 inputs now, which actually messed me up a lot because I double tap almost everything, but his trials weren't too difficult for me except canceling oni-muso into his CA, the timing for that is so strict.

Lucia's were nice and straight forward, I think I'm gonna really enjoy playing her.

Also the person that made poison's 9th trial clearly hates pad users; that shit had me inventing new dance moves with my thumbs.

Just jumped in today. Bought the Deluxe Arcade edition (1-3) and the stage pack for £24 total.

Any idea how long it will take to earn enough fight money to get the last 4 characters and maybe last 2 stages?

They always just make you re-download the entire new build. My 10mbps connection always dreads SFV updates.

I am 1000% positive that the Survival mode is a cheating son of a bitch. For the last couple months, I've pretty much played nothing but SFV Survival mode. I'm trying to get through the hard difficulty with every character.

The CPU does it's usual input reading shit at times, like just unreal reads on everything you do and perfect blocking, perfect whiff punishing. They will just turn it on at a random point, and you are fucked. I have been playing this mode for a long time and have noticed it feels a lot worse now.

So I've been playing with Juri for the past month or so, getting into the high 30's frequently, then getting fucked. Last night, I fell asleep with the game running, and my PS4 went into the sleep mode. When I got back up and turned it on, I resumed my Survival game in progress. The difference this time is that I was not connected to the server, not logged into CFN. I proceeded to blast through the levels, like butter went all the way to level 48, everything felt noticeably easier - the after round rewards were actually helpful - when I was low on health, I would get health I needed, and when I was high on health, almost always Lv 2 or 3 Damage or Defense boost. When you're connected to the server, you will frequently go several rounds without a useful reward available for purchase. I played it up until Level 48, then saved and quit, because you can't collect the FM reward if you're not logged in.

So I logged in, and resumed the game. Lvl 49 was Rashid. Now connected to the server, the Cheat Chip was activated and he fucking owned me, perfect reads and blocking. I said fuck this, and paid the FM to resume my game. I used a ton of items, and got through him and then Bison after that, finally clearing it.

But I'm telling you it could not be clearer to me that this game input reads and plays dishonest with the difficulty level when you are logged in. They want you spending your FM to resume games, not restart from the beginning. I wish I could definitively prove this, but I am personally 100% sure that when you are not connected to the server, the game plays fair.

I think it's just the AI being weird and flipping the switch whenever it wants randomly.
I've played, and cleared a lot of survival, extreme included, and I've seen their cheating bullshit whether online or offline.
Honestly it seems more like a per character thing to me, a lot of the AI for instance can't deal with cross ups properly because they have shit anti-airs.
Bonita always goes fucking nuts if I give her any kind of room to do anything.

THANK FUCKING GOD I finally won the Vega classic costume after spending like 20 fortune tickets :messenger_sunglasses:
It is a pretty sick costume. I'd say his best, along with the default one with the green top and black bottom.

I've picked up Poison recently, and it's been fun. She's a bit difficult to use against the top tiers like Rashid, but I love the grind.

Yes thankfully his default costume is pretty sick as well, but this one is definitely a must have and it really sucks that you have to get it this way I think. I was getting worried there for a minute, I had 65 or so tickets saved up just for this draw specifically, and spent around 20 of them to get it.

I love this game. It's easily the best fighter this gen for me and it's not even close. But... Fighting Chance is garbage.

So I found out something that might be a bug. With Poison, one of her hitd into special connects every time, but online it drops a lot and I don't understand why. It would be one thing if it were a link, then the timing would just be wrong on my part. This is an HP into a buffered special(medium Love Me Tender), so it comes out immediately afterwards. Works every time off line, drops a lot online, which doesn't make sense. The opponent is able to block it.

Spun this up again and the netcode and online experience hasn't improved in four and a half years. What the hell? It's still the same experience since beta in 2015. I'm playing against 5-bar connections but 95% of my opponents are nothing but rollback/dropped frames. I cannot read or react to what I am seeing visually. I have a beast PC and internet connection. Has Capcom actually made no changes regarding netcode? Beyond disappointing.

Honest question. Why choose this, when I can choose the parry and have the option to counter unlimited strikes instead of a single strike? Is Ryu not plus after a parry or something?

This will hit them whether or not they throw out an attack, it's an offensive parry whereas you are wide open if you made a bad read with VS1.

To the point where I'm wondering how useful VS1 even is anymore, why use a parry that leaves you wide open when you have this? Not sure how it's all going to work yet.

It's possible they'll reduce the recovery frames so larger damage can be dealt after the parry. That would help it from becoming redundant.

Okay I had to research for myself to confirm a few things. The netcode in SFV is still atrocious and hurts many players, more specifically PC players. We are approaching 5 years of this game being available to the public (counting BETA) and it's not been improved despite being the number one request [in r/StreetFighter polls] since July of 2016. The netcode still has one-sided rollback/desync/frame dropping and favors PS4 players when paired against PC players. There are multiple videos demonstrating this as objective fact.

My guess is that this continued on so long and is ignored because; (1) PS4 players don't experience the same frequency or extensity of problems PC players do (2) PS4 players also make up the majority of the player base, so they and Capcom really don't give a shit. (3) This is a PS4 console exclusive (no XBOX) so the focus is on the PS4 version (SFV made possible with Sony injection of funding) (5) Japanese developer and Japanese console = most SFV owners in Japan/Korea will play on PS4 and their internet infrastructure is god tier (isolated positive experience compared to NA/EU)

If this was a PC exclusive title there would be negative reviews out the ass as a pushback to Capcom and it would be become dead just like MvC Infinite OR the problems would be addressed asap.

Likely on GAF I'm beating a dead horse on this issue, but that's fine, I still had to throw this message out there. I'm so tilted about this I had to read up to see if I'm the problem or it's the game. Yep, it's still broken as we enter the year 2020.

I wonder if that isn't a deeper technical problem, because I've barely had massive rollback issues, even from the start; I've played locally against friends on ps4s and across the Atlantic to players in the US and Canada like fluxwavez, and it was fine then too. Meanwhile I've played other pc players with "5 bar" connections that were rollback city, because they were either on some McDonald's Wi-Fi, or just could barely run the in the first place.

Heck if your pc can't do locked 60, rollback is prolly imminent.

Well the good news is that we have objective video evidence and hundreds of players complaining on reddit/neogaf/steam/steam reviews. So I don't take my own experience as the blanket statement for the quality of SFV netcode. It's not an isolated issue and it's 100% clear it has nothing to do with WiFi internet or not being able to maintain 60fps on PC since people are having issues without these two things.

GTX 1080 overclocked to 2050mhz
i7 4790K overlcocked to 4800mhz
16GB DDR3 RAM overclocked to 2400mhz
1080p 240hz alienware 25" monitor
500GB SSD storage

Internet = 350mbs download / 20mbs upload
10ms ping to Google DNS in California
10ms ping to Blizzard's game servers in California

I don't have any network issues whatsoever in other multiplayer games, blizzard/origin/ubisoft games, csgo, apex, you name it. In Fightcade I can play against Japanese players in SF3/SF2 without issue (I'm west coast North America).

There's some sense of irony nymphae upvotes your post as "thoughtful" when your message is mostly "it works for me so it must be a you problem" or it's mcdonald's wifi or PC issues. I lol'd. You're right though there's a deeper technical issue with SFV unfortunately. I can't find any posts where PC players improved their online experience (aside from people using WiFI and framerates dropping)

Warning: I refunded the Street Fighter Champions Edition Upgrade Kit on Steam and after reverting back it's locked characters, colors and stages etc. that I previously unlocked with Real money and Fight money (from the last 4 years). My Steam page shows I have the DLC Purchased but characters are locked behind the Cart Icon.

I hope they'll stop with showing only 1 vskill 2 per day and just drop 2 or 3 per day. Or 10-12 per week. The wait is torturing.

If you follow fighting game threads on GAF it's quite clear that Nymphae Nymphae doesn't really know what he's talking about. I guess his hearts in the right place, but he's still quite ignorant when it comes to actually playing real people.

In what sense? Please be specific. I speak my experience and don't claim to be an authority on anything.

People read waaay to much into reactions ffs lol. I gave that post a thoughtful reaction because I have experienced fairly minimal lag when I play online, similarly to R Reizo Ryuu , yet I constantly hear about how terrible the netcode is. Sorry for reacting to a post guys, jesus.
