Street Fighter 6 Tops Over 3 Million Units Sold Worldwide

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that Street Fighter 6, the latest title in the storied Street Fighter series, has sold over 3 million units worldwide (as of January 3, 2024).

The first title in the Street Fighter series was released as an arcade game in 1987, followed by the global smash hit Street Fighter II in 1991, which generated mass excitement due to its innovative battle system. Even today, more than 36 years since Street Fighter first debuted, the series still enjoys immense popularity across the globe with cumulative sales for the series totaling over 52 million units worldwide. Further, in recent years the series has increased its presence as a driving force in the fighting game genre of esports.

Released in June 2023, seven years after the previous title in the franchise, Street Fighter 6 represents the next evolution of the series and a new generation of fighting games. Along with the Street Fighter League: Pro-JP 2023 esports tournament, the company is utilizing Street Fighter 6 in the Capcom Pro Tour 2023, which will provide a Capcom-record high $1 million USD (approx. 130 million yen*) in prize money to the champion, with the total prize pool for the tour exceeding $2 million USD (approx. 260 million yen*). On top of these activities, Capcom has worked to capture greater interest and attention for the title with continued content updates, including broad collaborations, additional characters, and costumes (such as "Outfit 3" additional character costumes), which has helped grow sales of Street Fighter 6 over 3 million units globally.

Further, Street Fighter 6 has received critical acclaim and was recognized as the year’s top fighting game, winning the Best Fighting Game Award at The Game Awards 2023, one of the largest award ceremonies globally, which recognizes the annual achievements of video games and their creators through a blended vote of international media outlets and game fans.

Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all players by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.

Thats really good, it is probably the best fighting game we've had since Tekken 7 I think(slight bias as I'm a Tekken main for fighting games), its been successfully pulling me back in casually which V never did, still need to finish off World Tour for the alt costumes though...

Never know what is considered a success for these companies. For some games, 3 million is grounds for shuttering the studio that made it. And to be honest, 3 million doesn't sound like a lot for such a long running franchise that's supposed to be considered one of the best, if not the best in the genre.

It’s definitely worse than SF4 since it sold 3 million in approximately one month:
By March 31, 2009, Street Fighter IV had sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
I don’t know if it’s good or bad though, it feels like fighting games are more popular now? No idea really.

Also I think Tekken 8 will sell way more than that.

Love the game. My personal '23 runner up to Zelda.
But goddamn fix the cheating online!
So sick of seeing EVERY.FUCKING.DRIVE.IMPACT be countered.

I will also add, very disappointed with the Japan arcade launch. I was in Japan in December.
I went to the GIGO in nishi-shinjuku on launch day and no-one gave a fuck.
I was in GamePanic in Aki the following day and no-one gave a fuck.
I also went to the Capcom stores in Shibuya, Ikebukero, and Osaka and you'd be forgiven for even knowing SF6 existed.

Simply comes down to how much it costs to make. Compared to most AAA games these days I imagine it would be fairly cheap to make.

Boght it and played da shit out of it for 1-2 months. Now I'm waiting for the "complete edition" as I'm expecting 30+ DLC characters in the upcomming hears.
You can't own phisical anymore...
 
Tekken 8 will sell better.😄
Had more fun with the Demo than with my full retail Street Fighter game. At least I got the game for free because my sister won the game.🤣😂

Great game. I play it almost every night with my friends and we discuss strategies together on discord when challenging high MR Masters in Battle Hub! We're fortunate to be able to play with Japanese players at a reasonable ping (90-100 ms)
 
I went all in day-one and played the hell out of it for a few weeks. Then I hit a brick wall and it just wasn’t fun. Every match is just “wait for your opponent to attack, counter, and combo then in the corner for the rest of the round”. It’s exhausting and boring.

Sold it. Tried the Tekken 8 demo and it immediately feels better. I guess Tekken continues the tradition since 1995 of being the fighting game to play.

I don't think is that much of impressive, considering the strenght of the brand. Played the demo and find completelly lame.
Let's see how Tekken 8 fairs against it though.
