These are engine upgrades they would have had to do regardless for MM.

It's a shame that people have been conditioned into paying for little to nothing. On PC when developers do this they will give it to existing owners for free or at a heavily discounted price. CDPR are giving existing Witcher 3 owners the next gen upgrade for free as well.

So yeh, keep defending poor practices to your own detriment.
Spoken like a true entitled gamer.
People pay what they think the value of the product is. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Also, you don’t know how much work went into remastering the game.
And just because CDPR does it for The Witcher doesn’t mean that everyone has to do it.

Agree... optimizing old games using an emulator to run on newer consoles is something Sony didnt work it out yet.

BTW, they already shown Last of Us Part 2 running on PS5 but they didnt let us know about it. I remember one of the first demo they show us extremely detailed NPC, high texture and ray tracing were there too. Problably they downgraded some assets for Ps4 release and next year they will sell Ultimate Edition again for us telling everything they "create" it again.
Spider man was designed for ps4 not a PC version that was downgraded to work on a console. The engine needs to be upgraded ( not emulation ), using high fidelity art going back to original source art, Customizing shaders, programing for RT 3d audio etc for the PS5. This all has to be go QA , and optimized for the PS5. Its not a small job at all. In insomniacs quote they mentioned upgrades way beyond just running an 'emulator', so you can have a seat on that point.

I platinumed it not too long ago.. so I may give this a chance when it hits low pricing. I understand that they probably spent good bit of money to update the game (but most likely shared that asstes and expenses with the Miles Morales game) - so I don't have any issue of paying for it. After all, it's a new content (in visual sense) that's made after the release of the game.

I would have preferred that the upgrade path was available separate as one of the DLC as you boot up your existing PS4 game on new PS5 though... maybe around 15-20 dollar range, quite possibly including the three DLC content.

Kinda hard sell without actually seeing the Remaster and doubtful it'll be Next-Gen difference, Hell I don't think Miles Morales is a Next-Gen difference to MSM.

The neon-noir style makes it so I can‘t tell if I’m looking at Spiderman, Fortnite, Watch Dogs: Legion, Rage 2, Cyberpunk 2077, or Blood Dragon. What the fuck is this look that’s in every game now?

Edit: It kind of says “Hey, stupid, you like bright flashing colors don’t you? Yeah you do you little idiot. Follow the bright shiny neon colors. Over here, dummy, see the twinkling thing? Yes, you do.”

Wow, this is a salty ass post, especially as it seems to be shouting at the wall. Those games look nothing like each other, what are you talking about?

Chill.

I’m not salty at all, but you can‘t tell me that that character doesn’t look like it would fit right at home as a Fortnite skin or a Watchdogs: Legion character.

Those "updated assets" are most likely from the Miles Morales expansion put back in the base game. It's not like they produced new assets only for the PS5 upgrade of the base game.

They just want to justify the (potential) extra price with all this "whole new assets and updates" talk even though the actual work behind it is minimal.

Pedestrians and cars in the distance, wow, they just have to raise the value in the LOD settings. The only thing that would would need a small amount of extra work is ray traced reflections and improved lighting, but as they release MM for PS4 as well, I would guess that those options are relatively easy to port to the original game too.

It would be nice if they would clarify this whole situation. Is it a free upgrade or not? Why is it so hard to get a definitive answer on this?

Oh and didn't they update the PS4 version anyway for all the PS5 presentations

Imagine marketing this game as a remaster and not having pictures or videos to show the improvements.

Are we supposed to take Sony's word for it?

Can't wait to replay this on PS5 in 4K and 60fps with all the bells and whistles.
Would happily pay whatever it is for this experience.

I never played the PS4 version, so I'll be buying the UE. Sorry guys, I'm part of the problem. But I like that they're giving some of us a chance to catch up on what others got to enjoy last gen.

Everybody around here these days is just extra angry at everything lately. It's real annoying

Yeah, a lot of negativity. If you scroll through threads -- not just this one, but most -- and count the negative and positive posts, the negative ones outweigh the positives by about 4 to 1.

Not saying everything needs to be sunshine and rainbows, or that people shouldn't express their opinions. Just saying negativity is contagious, and we might consider how the pervasive negativity affects our enjoyment of the hobby.

Ah yes, anyone who suggests they do it because the game has already sold a ton and it's a way to say thank you to existing customers is "entitled". If you didn't know, a little bit of goodwill goes a long way to making sure people buy your next product no questions asked. It's how CDPR have been able to be so successful over the years, I throw money at them not because have to, but because I want to.

Hope you like your $70 “remasters".

Haha but on what planet is glorified DLC worth $49.99??
1. Its not
2. Its a full fledge game with Miles
3. Its the link between spiderman 1 and 2 seeing Miles growth as a character and accessing his new powers and abilities
3. Itll prob be longer than most games coming out anyways

If getting upressed to 4K, 120 FPS, okay, yeah, free upgrade. This is standard practice.

Is a company still required to give it to you for free, however, if they’re directly changing and updating assets? Foundational improvements ala PS3 > PS4 remasters? Because I’ve never seen a widespread precedent for that.

Anyway, I’m guessing that these are the Miles Morales PS5 assets, and it makes sense to bring them over to this. Which might also be some good news for people disappointed in the cross-gen news — it looks like Miles Morales may not be just the PS4 city and assets running in 4K on PS5.
Issue is, that they probably not going to offer free upres, which is why this is kind of bullshit. Boost mode, probably not going to bump the game higher then what it is on PS4.

Probably not. It is what it is. If you don’t like Sony turning this into a business opportunity instead of a value add, you can always skip it, or head to Microsoft, who is super friendly with that stuff.

Looks like it’s 50 gig minimum* required for Miles standalone and 106 minimum* for Ulitmate edition, and remastered is a code.

These SSDs are gonna fill up fast.
Wait it's a code? If your gonna charge a premium for this shit the least you can do is put it on the disc Sony.

Obviously, but that's probably not within the bounds of this discussion, I think Sony can do better. I am obviously on XSX train, however PS5 is going to be down the line obviously. No one wants to miss their games : )

But then they would have to print 2 different discs: one for just MM and one for complete edition. It's cheaper to just include a piece of paper.

Its a full fledge game in the sense that lost lgecay was a full game from start to end with chloe and nadine, spiderman was what 20-24 hours? Meaning miles morales will be around 12-14 hours. If people complain about 12-14 hours and saying its not a full game you're clearly on the spectrum

Also, what tells you that I’ll pay $70 for a remaster? And last I checked, there is no $70 remaster.

So basically they are milking this because its spiderman?

I don't think so... Watch them do the same thing with their other bestsellers from this generation.

People accepting this sets a bad precedent. I hope nobody buys it.
Man, if I don’t get a 60fps patch for Ghosts and Last of Us 2 there’s gonna be words

Majority of the games will be booster, personally, spiderman is their golden goose that sold bangers and will continue to sell bangers. They also know theres probably alot of people that have yet to play it so are bundling it with miles morales. Its the smart move to push your franchise more
But a terrible move for the millions that have already bought it lol.

Sooo your saying since they already got there money they should ask for more money to get a upgraded version of Spiderman. Ok then. I agree that people should have to buy the Miles dlc. But they should at least get the upgraded version of the old game.

Yep. Before these file sizes were announced I was looking at MSFS file size thinking if it stays at ~130GB on the Series X that is a chunk. Now we are starting to see that the next gen games really are going to be very large.

There will always be trolls. The increase in negativity is likely due to something else. I mean, it's been a crapshoot of a year for many people, for one thing.

Also, Sony has been disingenuous lately and if you call them out, you're labeled a troll. Lots of tension around that topic.
