The CNET review is actually well written. The op saying it's a "poorly conducted review by a big site" is absurd. The fact that it doesn't confirm exactly what you want to hear is the reason it's being maligned.

People dissingScott Baku... Jeff Bakalar.
If he wasn't able to spot any meaningful differences in the games, that's cool - not every consumer is a pixel-counter, so not every reviewer needs to be.
I value DF to be fascinated by the intricacies of checkerboarding and 52fps vs 56fps, but similarly, i value those that casually say "is it all that noticeable? ... nah"
beyond dissing cnet, does anyone really disagree with the verdict?
"If you don't have a PS4, buy the pro, if you have a PS4, you don't need a pro right now because the upgrade isn't worth 400$, right now"
Sounds reasonable.
(I'm still gonna buy one, because just like there's people upgrading from a gtx 980 to a 1080, there's people who want to "optimize" their console gaming experience.
But we already know there can't be anything unique to the pro so the only thing devs can do is make it run or look better all things he doesn't really see.
Don't get your hopes up. Still waiting on the HDR update on Xbox One and they announced that pre launch.
I mean, if they are imperceptible and he was unimpressed, what does that intricate knowledge really bring to the table except confirmation bias?
The Cnet Review is totally on point, even better with the video version.
Sorry its not what some of you want to hear but there will be plenty of "its amazing" reviews for you too.
Are sites giving an actual score for the hardware? Can't access any of the reviews right now.
People can judge it for themselves plenty of vids out there now.The Cnet Review is totally on point, even better with the video version.

It's not about unique features. It's about building a separate branch of their game from the start or early in development, instead of having to graft it on with a patch later. This will make a significant difference what devs can do with the pro.I wouldn't say he was that informed going by the Beastcast. He seemed to have no clue about the games that had been announced or what they were even requiring devs to do. Hell someone posted a tweet where says he is looking forward to games developed with the pro in mind. But we already know there can't be anything unique to the pro so the only thing devs can do is make it run or look better all things he doesn't really see.

Looking at screens of TR or Titanfall I wouldn't say the IQ improvements are imperceptible.
It's their opinion. Just like the "it's amazing" reviews.
But somehow this review was TOTALLY on point for you.
It might be not completely on point for others.

He wasn't blown away, take that information as you will, but I don't think holding his hand and showing him the better shadows is going to change his mind.
Excellent! any high pitched noises during heavy games like uncharted or last of us?
I also have a launch ps4 right now
Appreciate the effort here. I think I'm keeping my preorder. Got cold feet about it last week. Haven't not played Uncharted 4 yet, I'm guessing this is worth the price of admission.
The IGN confirms what I was fearing. Lack of consistency and transparency with respect to the Pro's benefits. The idea that some games might even run worse in their Pro modes is troubling.
Not only is it hard to find any appreciable difference in visual quality, but the higher resolution seemed to cause deeper framerate dips than I remember from when I played Mankind Divided on a standard PS4.
Who wants a score lol

All I want to know is whether game loading times have benefited from SATA III.

Y'all are just upset the Cnet review isn't saying "OMG buy a Pro it's so worth it."
I don't count framerates when I play games but I sure as hell can notice a difference in quality.
Bakalar's Cnet review seems well written and fair, he (and alot of other sites) are saying the difference in older games is tough to see. Wait til new games come out when those developers had PS4 Pro info during production.
GAFers just tryin to jump on the Cnet bandwagon hate, unreal. I love Beastcast, listen to Bakalar all the time, dude know's what's up
Yeah, I saw it being played at a PSVR demo event a few weeks ago, and the difference with HDR on was very apparent. Admittedly that was being played on a 70" 4KTV - so like you say, maybe CNET's hardware wasn't good enough to take advantage of the improvements.
They both got reviewsHave console reviews always been a thing?
Can't remember the X1 and PS4 being reviewed :/
I trust df. They know there shit. Thats enough for me.
Fact is with the pro and a 4k i will get a better visual experience the rest of this console gen on my sony device. Probably even more so on scorpio too.
Thats enough for me, i play a lot of games for it to be worth the change.
Really!? HDR on First Light just on my standard PS4 is jaw-dropping on my C6 OLED and comparing to HDR switched off is night and day. Perhaps they need a better TV to test their games on.

Let me guess, you haven't go the system...Therefore, you are just projecting another example of confirmation bias...kind of weird to call others out by drawing attention to your own transparency...
What? I never said anything about shadows. Just from seeing the IQ improvements I don't see how you could say they are imperceptible. If he said not worth the money to him I could understand but you can tell the difference.
Lol at the CNET review. No clicks given for your C league reviewer.

Uncharted 4 not using checkerboarding, is that performance related then? Can't imagine why a Sony-owned studio wouldn't demonstrate a technique they invoked during the presentation of the console.
