Perfect Dark XBLA | The Official Thread

Huh so I'm guessing from all the recent posts, people are waiting until the patch to play again.
When is the patch coming out cause it's a ghost town online :(
I can barely find any games online, although played 3 straight 8 FFA today, was great :D

And poyffvbkkj at Perfect Agent, reminds me of 2000 when I struggled a lot :lol
but I'm gonna unlock
the Elvis and company mission where you kill the skedar queen and others
eventually

Man, its really a bummer to hear the online is already dying out. I thought for sure it would have a good life. I'm guilty of not playing it recently too, but damn do I love this game.

Well, I play it every day. I'm taking my time doing the solo missions and unlocking everything. Anyways, if it's hard to find games, maybe we can organize some GAF matches or co-op challenges. Though, I'm stuck at work, so I won't be able to log in for the next 9 hours =/

I just didn't buy it for online. The appeal of PD for me is the fantastic local MP (which is partly why i am disappointed with the lack of LAN support).

More #PerfectDark title update bits: Gamma setting! Lock Sight option! Laptop sentry mode fix! Local Combat Sim handicap! Longer explosions!
I like the longer explosions thing. They don't feel that threatening right now.

Having a break from the game until the patch hits. Looking forward to it!
I hope it fixes (maybe "improves" is a better term in this case) the netcode. :\

edit. wtf, it seems they are not going to do it... but it's basically unplayable online for me.

I guess the patch should hit soon?

"#PerfectDark XBLA title update 2 now in certification – provided it doesn't self-destruct Dragon-style it'll be ready in the near future"

I finally beat Perfect Dark on Perfect Agent difficulty!
Some levels were hard but if you take it slow it wasnt that bad.

Mainly I would peak around a corner, get a guard to start his attacking animation then when he stops jump out and quickly shoot him.

Better yet, Rare is going to announce a new game:

"We'd better announce a game soon... RT @Michael_French @rareltd's Natal design keynote locked in for Develop Conference http://bit.ly/9PcRzc "

I can't wait for the update. Perfect Dark was one of my favorite games of all time, but I barely played the Live remake becaues I hated the controls with a passion. I'm really looking forward to jumping back into the game.

I'm sad that the online community is pretty much dead/low
was trying to play a game earlier and just found one person only :lol
bvdetujjj :/
hope more people start playing again after the update

I KNEW it!

One of the first things I found that was "off". I thought my mind was making stuff up.

2 months of work for that? Was it just one guy working on weekends?

Oh well, at least I can finish the last few Perfect Agent mission I can't beat tomorrow now that I'll be able to aim properly.

Excellent! I knew there was something off about that. And Legacy controls, hot damn that's great. Years of hardwired A/B button functions made adapting to the extra buttons for changing weapons nigh impossible for me. :lol

Nothing about random spawning locations, weapon/shield respawn time.

EDIT: But hey, at least we get better laptop gun and explosion so we can kill ourselves more :lol

I knew that the laptop gun was nerfed!

Here's hoping that the combat knife has been fixed (it better be a one hit kill/one hit shield destroy like the original game!)

Also, has the Slayer been fixed?

wasn't "Carrington Institute Specialist" bugged too? i swear i did it, but did not receive the achievement. and yes, i did use the crossbow in instant kill mode.

"5/5/10: The Perfect Update

For those who've been trapped upside-down in an overturned Victorian carriage for the last couple of months, Perfect Dark XBLA has been available since March and the second title update is due tomorrow.

Want to know what's included in this title update? Seems likely, especially if you've been campaigning for Southpaw or Legacy controls since launch. Well, we've listened (or at least MGS and 4J have listened), and tackled everything that could be tackled without dismantling the whole game. The list below will tell you what you can expect the update to bring (besides the usual tweaks and fixes) to Perfect Dark:

* Legacy controls
* Southpaw (left-handed) controls
* Swap Triggers control option
* Lock Sight control option
* Precision Aim sensitivity tuning
* Hardcore (No Radar, No Auto-Aim, No Highlights, Combat only) matchmaking playlist
* Gamma (brightness) option
* Secondary Fire Reset option in Combat Simulator
* Quick Menu select using either Left or Right stick
* Player Handicap reinstated in local multiplayer
* Client player progress recorded in Live Co-Op game
* Progress recorded for all primary players (main player on each console) in Live Challenges
* Counter-Op progress recorded for both players if Jo player successfully completes the level
* Achievement fixes including 'Tools of the Trade' (anyone who's earned but not received it will now do so), ‘Who Needs Enemies’ (awarded to Counter-Op player after a full mission's progress), ‘How's That For Starters?’ (awarded to Counter-Op player if Jo player completes first level)
* Increased duration of explosions to better match the N64 experience
* Laptop Gun sentry mode performance adjusted to match the N64 experience

May 6th is the expected date for the rollout of this free title update. Firing up Perfect Dark while connected to Xbox Live should give you the prompt to download and install it. Enjoy!"

This is what i call a update, BRAVO RARE AND 4J STUDIOS!!

Pretty good list of changes, now what I personally need to make me happy is

- Ability to lock the sight when aiming, seriously
- Better online playlists
- Fix the lag spikes and constant lag in Co-Op/Counter Co-Op

So did they fix the matchmaking/live play yet.

*You can't join a session in progress.

*You can't have a lobby (party) switch from co-op to matchmaking to private match. It boots the other people out automatically.

*You can't host a public match. PD is about customizing. With predetermined playlists it completely destroys the custom gametypes that I loved.

But I'll check up on that other stuff. Im happy they fixed the challenges/coop saving.

This is my biggest concern, I'm curious to see if they have addressed that.

Will be playing this tonight, cool as the moving cross hair was back on the n64 now days I can't stand it especially on the harder modes in single player, we can still reduce/remove it right with this patch?

Just fired up the console and did a tour of most of the new options.

- The Legacy controls are in. And boy this feels so awkward and unnatural with the strafe on a second stick instead of four buttons. It'll take some time to get used to. But it's a lot easier to go full speed all the time, and the precision aim is far better on the left stick. Maybe useful for speedruns.
- Southpaw for left handed, good.
- Swap fire and aim triggers, useful with southpaw I assume, and to complete even more the Legacy controls.
- I was used to the bouncing sight, but the locked one feels nice with the classic config, no problems.
- We can finally tune the sensitivity of the precision aim. Also it seems they changed it by default, it's not as ultra-sensitive as it used to. Too bad you can't change the stick to use when in precision aim.
- Gamma setting finally here for the big bad lights. Set it to the minimum for the true N64 experience with flat textures^^ No, just lower it a bit, and you're all good.
- I don't understand exactly what does the secondary fire reset option. I assume the weapons go back to primary fire when you cycle through them. It only works for the multiplayer.
- The quick menu is now usable with both sticks, and is less sensitive than before. The option you select stays highlighted for about half a second instead of following all the moves of the stick. Real nice improvement.

The rest is fixes of achievements, co-op and multi. They also tuned the explosions and the laptop gun, I've yet to see the difference.

Ghost town online, couldn't even get a game.

Seems people overestimated the multiplayer's worth in this thread.
It was great 10 years ago, but who would honestly play it for an extended time other than a test run or nostalgia over any of modern day FPS online game?

I'm buying the game solely for the single player experience.

The multiplayer holds up extremely well and it's different enough from today's stuff to be fun. It's just there's no way for friends to team up unless it's on the same system or in a private match. Which is fucking stupid. How many people don't play games like CoD and Halo until their friends get on to team up against others? Tons. And if they can't wait they have tons of people playing said games on their list already.

Well that's mine and my friends' reason for not playing.

The matchmaking system they implemented just didn't turn out well at all IMO. The gametypes in the playlists are just bad bad bad. Auto-aim plus shields? Yuck.
Plus the fact that you can't take a party of friends with you in matchmaking makes the whole thing unappealing.

If I knew the matchmaking was going to be this bad, I would've preferred a custom game browser. :-\

So how has the Lock Sight option changed the game for people here? I, quite-honestly, can't tell any difference with it being on right now but I think I just need more time with it.

I'm just interested to hear if it plays better or worse for some people.
