Can next-gen packaging be counted as a next-gen feature?
Otherwise we have a next-gen console and a current-gen 2.0 console (and a current-gen 1.46c build 237.2.1β console)
Better graphics alone don't make a console next-gen for me.
controversial opinion... I know, but one of the best current gen games for me looked like this:

Like I responded over at Era.....What about the EU WTD laws? I got a reply from Jason that basically said plenty of the devs love it there anyway except the crunch (which boggles my mind if doing up to 100 hour weeks!) but didn't address my query around the basic legality of doing 100 hour weeks. Even if you opted out of the 48 hour WTD limit or a individual dev begged to do 100 hours surely there has to be other health and safety/labour laws here?

The EU is not a single monolithic entity where all countries have the same laws. The EU WTD is a directive and, AFAIK, some directives need to be ratified by local working laws by the respective governmnets, and a lot of them are actually optional.

To me it seems like CD Project can leverage this

  • Work in equivalent working time system, which gives the possibility to extend the duration of work to 12 hours in a 24-hour period during a reference period not exceeding one month, or three months in particularly justified situations, and four months in the case of work which depends on a season or weather conditions (Art. 135 Labour Code).
  • Work in equivalent working time system, which consists in the supervision of equipment or where workers are required to remain on standby in certain periods. This offers limited possibility to extend working time to 16 hours in a 24-hour period during a reference period not exceeding 1 month, while retaining the right to rest during the time equivalent to, at least, the number of hours spent at work, regardless of the weekly rest period (Art. 136 Labour Code). With regard to workers employed in equivalent working time system at guarding property or persons as well as fire brigade employees and employees in company rescue services working time may be extended to 24 hours in a reference period not exceeding 1 month, which may be extended to 3 months in special situations and to 4 months for types of work which depend on a season or weather conditions. In this system, a worker retains the right to rest during a period equivalent to, at least, the number of hours spent at work, regardless of weekly rest (art. 137 Labour Code).

Here is another interesting thought, the GDRR6 will need connecting to the GDDRG PHY before cache, which makes off chip cache even more complex, it cannot be like VITA as such.

But AMD would not have 128 mm2 of chip area for L2 cache surely ? So it really is a mystery.

Note large L2 cache and shared L1 are actually different things, we keep calling them infinity cache but I call them L1 infinity and L2 infinity as the really are different, and L2 maybe a memory bus enhancer.

There may be even an L3 on GPU side .....I ahve no idea and neither does anyone else it seems, which is why its interesting.

Anyway, today the mystery will be solved, we may get 2 names for these techniques on PC,. and god knows what consoles adopt.

Agree again. Assuming the rumours are true - and since drivers include a 128MB reference it is more than a rumour - I cannot see them fit those roughly 100mm2 of cache silicon on-die. It needs to be off-die - one way or the other.

I can only base it on my own understanding and how strictly it was implemented here in England for all the jobs I did. Even over 20 years ago when I did agency work the WTD was taken seriously even though the agencies did try to take the piss where they could on all sorts of things. Reading your Polish flexibility proviso still doesn't seem to enable anything like 100/weeks or months on end crunching?

The driver is maybe max addressible cache, so it could be L3, L3+L2, L2+L1 or all of it if its all connected in some interconnect layer

Mystery of the mysterons captain black.

He had a meltdown because he thought he’d successfully found something he could bash the Ps5 with, and lift the XSX, but I pointed out to him that Sony have probably keep the packaging down for environmental reasons. X-Fighter was a smart chap, and he knew that was a good point, but by that time had doubled down on his position, and if he’d pulled back it would have seemed weak. Hence the meltdown because he’d backed himself into a corner, and everyone knew it.

I hope he reads this and comes back. It’s just such a stupid thing to grenade your account over.

Actually it's a pretty stupid thing to choose to go full fanboy over, but hey, everyone will choose their hill to die on. But I still think X-Fighter was one of the better ones from the Xbox side and I feel sorry to have him leave, especially over such childish thing.

At the end of the day, we're pretty much in one or the other's company ecosystem, unless there are some of us who chose to have both consoles (I am not one of them, I admit). We've all come here for the info and speculations, which are pretty much over by this time, and for friendly banter. But when things go downhill like this, it makes one wonder, is it really worth it?

Is this why we're here? To defend faceless corporations, just because they will make us PAY to use their products? No, we're here to be happy we will have some nice machines to game on, and once in a while, for some friendly ribbing. Too bad some people decide to be some nameless soldiers, dying in stupid console wars trenches.

The good thing is he wasn't permabanned, so he can make a new account and come back if/when he is ready.

I really wish Sony had a list of approved NVME drives out. Amazon has the Sabrent drives as their deal of the day and a 2tb with 5000mb read speed is only 230ish.

Can't wait to play 3rd party games on PS5:

- Haptic feedback
- Adaptive triggers
- 3D audio
- 4K visuals
- Fastest load times

Can't stand my PS4 anymore and I still have to wait 3 weeks or more to get it. :messenger_weary:

So what, you don't like your PlayStation 4 Girl anymore? Longer loading times means you're going to spend more time with her!

And here's some porn that goes well with it:

Ahh I wasn't sure. Thanks then. I'll feel better missing out on these then even though they still seem like solid deals.
I think next year will be the best time to buy. Not this year, prices should fall over time.

The only 3 drives announced that should work on the PS5 (so far) are:

Samsung 980 Pro - 500 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB

Western Digital SN850 - 500 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB

Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus - 500 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB (not the regular Rocket 4, this is a newer model just announced)

Sabrent has not yet said price of their new 7 GB/s M2 SSD.
Both the Samsung and Western Digital models are $150 for 500 GB and $230 for 1 TB.

Yeah I've been saying the next year thing too, but I could get a 1tb around $150 I'd probably just do it. I haven't needed more than 2tb at any point on my ps4.

What?! PS Now has MORE subscribers than Game Pass? The Verge disagrees with you. Do not compare Apple and oranges friend. Game Pass is a game subscription service. PS+ is NOT. PS Now is the game sub service and it is NOT as successful as Game pass. You might be right that PS + has more subs that XBL Gold but that is just a byproduct of having a larger installed base.

Amazon Prime is not a game service. It gives cheaper shipping and movie streaming. Why compare it to Game pass? Some hate MS so much that don't want to give them any credit in the game space. No matter how much some here dislike them Game Pass is successful and its doing better than its competitors. That may change but the competition needs to improve their services first.

Honest question, how many xCloud subs are there? Or GP Ultimate subs I suppose?

Because that would be a correct comparison wouldn't it? xCloud vs PS Now?

I think some peeps might have to adjust their entertainment center around this big boi

Why cram the PS5 in there, while the wider XSX is behind the TV? If he/she really does keep it in that cabinet, then they're an idiot, and deserve whatever the PS5 equivalent of the RROD is. It's like the image of someone playing with the PS5 on a carpet. There are vents on the bottom. If there's a venturi effect that ends up drawing air up from the bottom, while venting out the back, then that's a 1-way ticket to dust town.

I wonder following AMD event, Microsoft drop a new Hellblade 2 Trailer 🤷‍♂️
That's assuming they actually have a working engine by now. Since it's supposed to be built on UE5, I seriously doubt it. What we saw before had to have been a target render.

Theoretically, Halo should be the most-presentable game right now, seeing as it was the only presentable game this Summer. If HB2 leapfrogs Halo somehow, then 343i should just be shuttered. I don't think that's the case.

The marketing message really is all about a new generation, pushing boundaries, exploring new things etc. etc.

I tell you, when this launch is done and dusted, there’s a great analysis to be had of the different psychological approach Xbox and PlayStation have taken across the board.
Absolutely. Even if you are not a fan of PlayStation, you should appreciate what a launch they've done. They really know how to do it. Microsoft should really take notes on how to do things if they want to sell consoles

I have to imagine it's just for the effect of the picture. It makes no sense to leave it shoved in there with no airflow.
