Well there it is
They are not even trying to sugar coat it any more _ 'shipping' games to PlayStation Jesus! They really want to sink Sony.
AKA re-releases of older legacy games. This says nothing about new installments of big franchises, and we already know games like TES VI are not coming to PlayStation as per Phil's own statements, even if that violates the conditions they gave to regulators in determining which games would be made console-exclusive to Xbox.

You might be right about Starfield, but that still doesn't mean it wasn't made at least a timed console exclusive. An exclusive is still an exclusive, technically speaking.

As for TES VI, we already got our answer: Xbox console exclusive. I'm expecting similar for Fallout 5, maybe even the next DOOM game as well. I'm not saying any of this is wrong; these are Microsoft's IP now and they can do what they want with them. And I don't even hold them cancelling the PS5 version of RedFall against them since that's a game that would've fit the criteria of being made exclusive.

But the hilarity comes in when that same logic's applied to a Starfield, or TES VI, as those technically meet the criteria MS gave to regulators like the EC in cases a Zenimax game would stay multiplatform. Though, since regulators like the EC don't even have an issue with large foreclosure of Zenimax IP on consoles (assuming they don't, since they feel similar about ABK), I guess in the end they give MS a "get out of jail free" card anyhow.

You know they're just talking out of their ass and this really is just PR when you are ignoring the largest console base of the proper next gen consoles and use this filler as an excuse. They bought them just keep them fully exclusive but don't make stupid PR statements like you're some charity.

If you wanted to mitigate and reduce financial risk this would be on PlayStation 5. It's not.

Wow remasters of thirty year old FPS games and Shit MMO’s, gee thanks…
You know if Xbox weren’t cunts and genuinely werent just spouting rhetoric and false promises they would just say Starfield is exclusive for a year and all future Fallout, Doom, Wolfenstein and Elser Scrolls game will remain Multiplatform AS THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN. Wont happen, they already lied to regulators multiple times, fuck them.

That is partially due to Sony's movie rights power with the licensing. MS does not have such Lucasarts reach or film licensing ownership.

Disney will want it third party and to maximize sales. They are not maximizing sales on the Xbox platform.

It literally has nothing to do with Sony's movie rights. The movie rights don't extend to the games they don't even extend to games based on the movies...

Somehow we continue to have this conversation for 20 years...

Bro, Sony finally allowed Marvel to use Spider-Man in the MCU after the game contract was signed. They line up all their films to coincide with their game releases to maximize hype and cross purchase seeding.

Buying your way to the top with profits from your non-gaming sectors, and then using that to limit the range of independent 3P entities a direct competitor can have access to, is very much not the definition of competition.
It's also not against the rules. And I would argue that is a very common form of competition.

Again, that's just not true.

You're trying to cobble together things because it sounds nice to you. Marvel approached Microsoft before they approached Sony. Marvel approached Sony in 2014 the same year in which they released Civil War*. You know a movie that wrapped filming after development began on the game in 2014.

They line up all their films to coincide with game releases? What are you basing that on? Miles Morales released in 2020, what movie came out in 2020? That isn't how unrelated projects like this work. No way home came out in 2021. Across the Spider-Verse came out with limited cross-promotion of the game outside of a brief cameo.

You're really pulling information out of thin air here.

They renegotiated the Spidey MCU contract a few years back and some people think that Disney had to offer a few more concessions in order for Sony to play ball.

In late September, word broke that Disney and Sony had reached a deal for an additional Spider-Man movie that will be released in 2021, once again starring Holland. Details of the new deal have yet to come to light, but THR says Disney won “a considerable stake” in a new movie, which means they’ll be taking home more than their nominal 5% of the gross they received for Homecoming and Far from Home—although it should be noted that Disney also controls all merchandising profits, whereas Sony only makes Spider-Man money from the movies.

This is just speculation by the way, nothing more and nothing less.

It's complete speculation and the MCU deal happened AFTER the games development started which was in 2014...

Welp, Indiana Jones is an Xbox console exclusive after all 😲

Seems like MS amended the original agreement once Zenimax was acquired, so other consoles got dropped.

Now we'll see what happens with Kingdom Hearts 4 👀...
yep, what future titles are going to actually be released when Microsoft is even going as far as to amend contracts in order to cut out competition once they acquire publishers?
