Martha is dead to be censored/edited on PlayStation platforms, PC and Xbox unaffected.

Wtf, i tought it was gone. No idea why its still censored in Europe, europe is pretty open to nudity. I see more tits in a afternoon at the beach, than an entire gen in videogames. I think Germany also dont have issues with nudity, most censored games in germany was censored because of gore. I might be wrong.

Capcom said this about why they censored DMC:

“We are happy to know that you want to buy this game, but unfortunately [the censorship] is due to the European Community legislation which prohibits marketing for this type of content in all of the members countries […]”

Source.

Seems a bit off, though, considering only copies on Sony were censored. I'm glad they reversed it, but it was ridiculous it even occurred in the first place.

Germany got a lot better regarding censorship (until Dying Light 2...) and nudity was never a problem.

well some stuff was censored or changed because of the UK in th past as well.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was called Teenage Mutant Hero Tutles for quite some time in all of Europe simply because the brits found the word Ninja to be not kid friendly enough 🤣 which is super random.

Maybe it's a Japan thing? Like how in adult entertainment from there the private parts are always censored. Or so I've heard. I wouldn't know, obviously.

Right.....and that's what I'm doing. Disagreeing.

On second thought, I think you and most here are correct with your opinions. I was mostly triggered because all this is happening to a child. But of course that shouldn't limit artistic choice.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
This is a very weird take from Sony.
TLOU2 exist...

And Martha is dead a horror game, so most player were adults.

And mutilated hands from RE8.....

Martha Is Dead is a narrative adventure recommended for adult audiences only, with play consisting of potentially discomforting scenes and themes that may distress some players. Both Wired Productions and LKA have always been open and honest about Martha Is Dead content, with the sensitive depictions in play consistently communicated to the media since the game was announced in 2019. This content is also flagged clearly and repeatedly within the game itself before play begins.

>It is with regret that we have had to modify the experience on the PS5 and PS4 versions, with some elements no longer playable. After over four years of passion and hard work, Developer LKA now requires extra time to make these unplanned changes. Martha Is Dead, as a result, will still launch digitally on both PS5 and PS4 on Thursday, February 24th, 2022, but the physical retail release will be delayed to a yet to be disclosed date; although we anticipate this to only be a small number of weeks. Our physical edition will still contain the bonus content of a double-sided poster, digital tarot cards and Martha Is Dead Digital EP. We will update players with the date we ship this edition as soon as we have the information.

The PC and Xbox versions of Martha Is Dead are both unaffected by these developments and will launch with the full unedited gameplay as planned.

We look forward to players experiencing the work of LKA on Thursday February 24th, 2022.

Suspected scene

Play has plenty of limits it seems.

At the very least the dev team is being up front about it.

I don't even know what this game is .. but I'm a bit squeamish over realistic looking gore depictions so uh .. pass.
I'm the same and hate seeing realistic looking gore but I would never advocate for theaters to make many horror movies rated NC-17. I'm not saying you are doing that, I'm just surprised at how many people came in this thread against the censorship but then were fine with it when they found the gore exceeded their own arbitrary limits. It's very self-centered.

After seeing the scene in the demo though ... yeah it's "gross" but doesn't seem much worse than what's in some other games overall. I wonder what makes them censor this but let you brutally stab people in the neck in The Last of Us 2? 🤷‍♂️
One of the reasons Senran Kagura was censored, was becouse it was interactive, like the kissing/groping minigames, seems to be the same thing here, with the QTE. The rest of Senran Kagura was not censored, only the interactive minigames.

Haven't played last of us 2, but it might get a free pass due to it being a sony game.

Damn. I’m against censorship but I wouldn’t buy the game anyway. Seems like a walking sim but trying to be super edgy.

On the other hand in gow3 you rip off helios head and use it as a got dang lamp, so… wtf Sony.

I’ve seen the scene with the face mask quick time event and don’t understand why Sony is censoring this one.

Anyone seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre? What about Saw or Hostel?

It’s really not that bad.

Pussies getting their panties in a twist over nothing.

Apparently big budget can get away with gore, small time devs get fucked.

The game could contain the worst thing you can imagine and I’d still side with the developer.

The ESRB is around for a reason.

Don’t tell me what I can and can’t be subjected to.

Sony is in the wrong on this one.

Geez. Sony did the right thing on this one. That scene was disturbing and Serves no purpose other than feeding some sick psycho’s fantasy.

ESRB - Do your job. No way that should just be M.

Gore is exclusive to playstation exclusives.

Hmm, I weird that Microsoft doesn't have an issue with it.

The question you should ask is "why does Sony have an issue with this", and not the other way around.

The face thing seemed edgy but the fetus stuff crosses the line. I’m fine with people doing sick disgusting shit for the sake of art, like in a Lars von Trier movie, but only if they have the pedigree and skills to communicate WHY it has value.

Otherwise it’s just horror porn and like all types of porn the burden is on the user to find the appropriate place to view and jack off to it.

Sony is still on their censorship bullshit huh? Guess that's never going away. I love this fucking clown world we've found ourselves in.
Edit: Even better there are actually people that defend this shit still. I don't know why I'm surprised.

I forgot to mention, the game Visage starts with a cutscene where you shoot two children and their mom in the face with a revolver.

That gets the pass but not this?

Fucking stupid, all of it.

Germany got a lot better regarding censorship (until Dying Light 2...) and nudity was never a problem.

I also bet that in the case of Dying Light 2 they didn't even try getting the uncensored version approved. since every time you let your game be tested by the USK costs money, some publishers simply pre-censor their games to save a few bucks.
after games like Mortal Kombat 11 had no issue releasing in Germany, there is no doubt in my mind that Dying Light 2 would have been fine too.

This is the scene that was in the demo

This looks b film af...censoring this vs the violence in TLOU2 which strives to recreate realism is type hypocritical. The scene where you stab the woman playing hotline miami and shes gripping her neck to stop the blood from oozing out is far more disturbing...neither should be censored...of course theres a line but thats up to the ersb ratings to determine imo...not sony.

Thank you Sony for deciding what is best for me yet again and for reassuring that my next console purchase should come sooner.

Not interested in this game but I will say in TLOU2 there are encounters that end with one person left and they beg you for their life and the only option is to brutally murder them. You can blow their face/limbs off and everything. Where do we draw the line? I understand Sony can do whatever they want with their platform but it's a little confusing like others have pointed out in many other examples.

I kind of wonder if this censored on Sony/unchanged elsewhere stuff becomes, in and of itself, a marketing ploy.

Have no interest in the game, but Sony, I have been down on their brand for quite some time.

How so? This sounds like a one-off situation.

Well to be honest the scene in OP disturbed me a little bit, nonetheless fuck off with any kind of censorship and even then it didn't disturbed me as much as Abby's disgusting and repulsive naked body.

Probably because i'm more used to gore than deformed mutant porn though, so my bad.

dont forget this lovely scene in a sony studios made game.

im not sure how this is in the same planet.

Like stabbing someone and ripping someones head off. Completely different things. Anyways its Sony choice if they want something on their platform or not.

Sony sees him in their sleep.

Well OK Sony, if you don't want me to buy this game on PlayStation I'll choose another platform for it this time. Your loss.
Lol, you were never gonna buy the game anyway. Let's face it.

Also, depictions of cruelty to children (even dead ones) is not even something you would see in film/TV or even anime (would be banned from airing so hard), so I'm not seeing the problem with Sony asking them to cut this content. Nobody who isn't a sadistic sociopath wants to see that.

And to those crying about hypocrisy, mutilating a baby's corpse =/= violence against and between adults. One is very much accepted in society, videogames and Sony videogames and the other simply isn't.

So is that scene just a cinematic now or cut entirely?

Maybe they needed to alter the Sony version for the German market, but instead of only doing changes for one specific country they as a small studio made the change for all Sony versions. DE authorities could see Sony as the market leader in consoles (kids toy) and be harder on it.

Any violence that is integral to the story (validated) or necessary to gain items to move forward (GoWIII head ripping for example) is fine, violence against humanoids for the sake of violence can get you banned fast.

Don’t know why the developers aren’t more specific, do they really think people are going to buy the game not knowing what was cut and how it’s handled ?
