AlternativeUlster

Absolutely pathetic part deux
Dungeons and Dragons game that was an Action RPG and was for all 3 consoles and I can't remember it but having a crap ending and I thought, "What the hell dudes?" but I still wanted to play it more.
Earthbound
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Knights of the Old Republic
Parasite Eve
Parasite Eve II (maybe? I can't really remember)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team
Suidoken III
X-Men Legends

I swear I played a lot of PSX RPGs but can't remember that many. Maybe I really only finished 2 of them. I thought I beat some Dreamcast RPG too but whatever. I am not going to stress over this.

It's no secret that I do not think highly of GAF(fers). But come on. The thread started off on the wrong foot already.

First of all, it's a list thread. Doomed.
Secondly, the original poster himself mangles the topic by listing stuff like Castlevania.

The first few replies were right to mock it. That people started to respond seriously to it completely amazes me.

Do you "beat" a Nirvana CD, or "beat" a book?

to be fair, nirvana CDs and books don't include elements designed to actively stop you from finishing them.

"beat" is accurate enough

XBOX - RECORD ME LOVING DOWN MY WOMAN GOOD
Good lord, beaten? That would be a very long list, truth be told. The last RPG I beat was Rogue Galaxy, but these days it takes me a darn long time to beat one. With console RPGs, especially ones with random encounters and a transition to a battle screen, I lose interest somewhere in the middle. I can only take so many interruptions as I'm trying to explore. I never used to feel this way, but I have less and less time as an adult. Gaming is a luxury, but so is time. I don't want to spend a good portion of my free time running into random battles.

As a youth, I would have embraced high encounter rates, or at least accepted them. These days titles like Final Fantasy XII, Rogue Galaxy, and a few others have made me interested again, because most battles are seamless (even if RG's ARE random). Titles like Tales of the Abyss, the upcoming Blue Dragon, and Valkyrie Profile 2 are also fair, as they at least let you see the enemies on screen before engaging them. This means you can clear an area and then explore without fear of running into another random battle.

But anyway, back on topic, I'm currently playing both Tales of the Abyss and Valkyrie Profile 2. I also have FFXII, DDS, Nocturne, and about a half dozen others on my memory cards in some shape or form. So basically, I love RPGs but something ends up yanking me away from them. Life? Work? Other games? I beat Rogue Galaxy, but by the end I was a bit sick of it. If it wasn't for the fast paced battles and the near non-existent transition to battle, I would have probably set it aside long before. I also really like Tales of the Abyss but man...the frequent load screens are bugging me something fierce. Even if they are short.

I also had an odd feeling to replay Arcanum this morning. Got really far in it, but I lost my saves when my PC croaked a few years back. I haven't really played a PC RPG since Beyond Divinity...because most everything released since then has been some sort of Diablo gameplay clone. And I don't enjoy hack and slashers much. I can't wait for Divine Divinity 2, however.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
gonna be hard to think about. i rarely ever beat my games, especially the RPGs

Super Mario RPG
.hack//Infection
.hack//Mutation
.hack//GU Vol 1
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Pokemon Red
Pokemon Blue

Breath of Fire (SNES)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Final Fantasy VIII (PS1)
Final Fantasy X (PS2)
Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2)
Disgaea - Hour of Darkness (PS2)
Persona 2 (PS1)
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (PS2)
Suikoden III (PS2)
Grandia II (PS2)
Phantom Brave (PS2)
Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
Rogue Galaxy (PS2)

Not a very big list, especially since I consider myself a huge RPG fan. My problem is that I usually quit on whatever RPG I'm playing when I get to the very end. For instance, notice the large gap I have in the Final Fantasy series. I have gotten to the last boss or "dungeon" on so many RPGs only to quit that I can't even begin to name them all. My reasons for quitting at the end vary. Sometimes it's simply because I get bored and can't convince myself to just finish the damn game. Other times it's because the last boss or dungeon is such a pain in the ass I get frustrated and quit, never to look back. Then there's the big stack of un-played and factory sealed RPGs, which taunt me. I have about 25 RPGs in my collection I haven't even played (not including ROMs...tee-hee), so sometimes I find myself quitting whatever it is I'm playing simply to move onto a different RPG.

Sad, I know.

Oh, and yeah, I guess you can add Pokemon Red, Blue, etc, etc to my list as well. Really, though, when you've beaten one Pokemon game you've pretty much beaten them all...

Tsubaki, how many days of your life would you guess you've spent playing RPGs?

Too many, really. It's hard to quantify. I claim it as my favorite genre, even if I only like very few.

But in 2007, I've played less than an hour. Go figure.

shut uuuuuuuuuuuuuuup
Not that many. Lately I've begun playing a whole lot of rpg's, and even though I like them, I just drop them because I know I won't have the time to finish them anytime soon. Summer will (hopefully!) be that time. Games that are on that 'got 2 hours into them, must finish' list: DQ VIII, FF XII, VP 2: Silmeria, BK Origins, SMT Nocturne and DDS 2. Out of those I liked DQ and Originis the best (of the little I played). Darnit that's actually a pretty big list :( And I want to play SH: Covenant sometime too. Must find time...

I've beaten many over the years. And will beat many more. And beat my meat to feel the heat so I may eat
