GOG News and Updates 2011

I might double-dip.

It's got serious issues, but I really enjoyed playing it at this time of year the first time I played. Would be fun to revisit it again.

I'd recommend Fahrenheit to anyone looking for an adventure game that's quite different. Just be warned, it starts off as the most amazing adventure game ever, gets a bit bizarre as it goes on (in a good Twin Peaks kind of way), then about two thirds of the way through becomes the most retarded thing I've ever experienced.

The demo blew me away, the full game was a big mountain of shit.
IMO the demo (which was the first level of the actual game) is near the top of the argument for best level of all time.

Too bad the game goes so wheels off 2/3 of the way through, but I still enjoyed it overall.

Agree completely. Still worth playing for the first 2/3rds of the game!

A game almost as disappointing as Dreamfall. I can't even bother to write a short review of it actually I could, my bitterness still smouldering after all these years. However I pressed back in my browser and it disappeared forever so we :/ (edit)

hehe. I'm back to liking fahrenheit at this point. amazing story. I was waiting for heavy rain to turn into fahrenheit insanity all the way through :( it just went more and more stupid instead of more and more insane

I liked the atmosphere of Indigo Prophecy, and some of the environments, but otherwise it was a train wreck.

Is this the game that started out with a turorial, in like a movie set location? A developer, with maybe a Swedish accent, walking you through?

Yes.

Has anyone had any luck playing The Longest Journey in a window with D3DWindower? Some have recommended it but I can't get it to work right. It launches in a window but the mouse is restricted to the top-left quadrant and won't move outside that, so that's kind of useless. I've tried playing with all the options in the tabs, but none of them seem to do much (of course I don't know what the hell most of them mean). On Win7 x64 here.

Sorry for the late reply, but you should be able to just alt+tab to another program after you start it, and then when you return to TLJ, the mouse should be working fine (and you can continue to click back and forth between programs without any further troubles).

Still Life and Moto Racer are great games. At least Moto Racer 2, I haven't played enough of Moto Racer 3 to give a good verdict.

Figured out the puzzle! That was pretty fun. Except the majority of it was easy as long as you had the first few letters of the word. Simple to guess. It was only the last word that you really need every letter to make sense of it.

I worked on Sniper Elite. While it's not to my own taste, I'm told it ended up actually being a pretty good sniping game. You'd probably want to get a second opinion from someone who isn't horribly biased, though :-)

Thanks for the tip, that worked. Follow-up: Are you able to run the game at a different windowed resolution, like 1280x960? When I try putting those values in D3DWindower, it starts a window that size but the game only appears in the top-left quadrant, so it's still effectively 640x480.

Yes, see here, the files/instructions in the archive linked might help. The main drawback is the framerate (for me) drops to 30 at any resolution other than the default 640x480 (which runs at 60). When using other sized windows, there's a little extra invisible space between the end of the game window and your desktop, so just keep moving the mouse and eventually it appears.

It's not the most ideal thing, maybe one day a newer windowing program will surface that runs a bit better with on-the-fly re-sizing.

Dream Fall ending was much less disappointing

More importantly: WESTWOOD!

LoL1 is one of the finest first-person block-movement RPGs, easily. LoL2... is also a game.

LoL1 alone is easily worth the asking price. I played through LoL2, I *kinda* liked it, but it's nowhere near as good as the first.

I may pick it up just to try to extract a sample of Baccata saying "Stroke of genius!". That's stuck in my memory since I first played the game an age ago.

Lands of Lore 1 is a great classic game in the vein of Eye of Beholder, only a bit fancier animations (movement and turns are animated, not instantaneous), and there's more party interaction and animations throughout. Very nice music as well, and voiced by Patrick Stewart, what more could you want! AFAIK the sequels were a bit of a let down, but I don't think I ever actually played very much of them.

Of course, there's a very good reason for that.

Would this merit bolding on the OP? Or would the existence of LoL2 dampen the package?

(On the subject of the OP: Fahrenheit isn't exclusive, is it? I thought I had it on Steam, but now I'm not certain. Of course, you could argue that the uncensored version is somewhat exclusive, that's where it gets a little awkward)

Did you miss the release of Nox?
Ah, oops. Forgot about it.

LANDS OF LORE. OMG

When's the new one due? If I was EA, I'd try to engineer matters so the first appeared on GoG with about a month to go before the new one.
or release it a couple of weeks after the new one to dress the open wound that game left :-DD

Once some other opinions roll in (so it's not just me - though I do still enjoy re-playing the first game from time to time), as they have, I could just not bold the "+2" so only the original game is recommended. I don't really remember how the EotB sequels played either, though I think they were better than LoL 2 & 3.

I believe it got pulled from steam, but regardless, as you say, Steam never had the international version.

definitely bold. lol2 is easily ignored

I've got it on gamersgate, but seems like it isn't on there anymore. it is on direct2drive though. and the atari store http://www.atari.com/age-check?nid=game-2442&destination=games/fahrenheit/pc-download

The impression I had was that EotB2 (which I think was Westwood again) was great, and 3 (the first one without Westwood?) was somewhat more rubbish. None of that's from first-hand experience; it's all hearsay.

wow lands of lore, i remember owning this, and its anti piracy measure based off entering a letter in the manual (go to pg. x, line x, word x, letter x), then losing the manual.

Ugh haven't played 2 but it looks like junk. But dat artwork in 1 makes me happy.

The best part of 2 was watching promotional videos for it (and Blade Runner, which I feel is bit overrated) that came with C&C Red Alert. Maybe access to a walkthrough will make it better but I just remember being both confused on what to do and bored at the same time. And also really disappointed in the gfx.

My overriding memory of 2 was that it felt like 95%+ of the enemies were spiders. Dunno how real that is, but there really were shitloads of them.

So, besides Syndicate (can't happen until after the crappy new game is released) and System Shock (probably can't happen ever :( ) what significant EA games are we still waiting for? Ultima 7, certainly. Quite a few older Maxis titles. Theme Park.

Crusader No Regret, WC 4 & Prophecy.

You're crazy if you don't think GOG is trying its goddamn hardest to secure the rights to the System Shock franchise. I'm confident we'll eventually get both games as they're way too high in demand for GOG to not do it. It'll be hugely profitable for them.

I think System Shock is being held by some bank or IP firm or something and they want a ridiculous amount of money to free it.
