Doom Eternal arrives to rip and tear in only a couple weeks, and now we know what kind of rig you’re going to need if you want on PC. The requirements are surprisingly beefy considering this is a game that’s going to be running at 60fps on consoles, and is even getting a Nintendo Switch version, but I guess id Software is really looking to push things on PC. Minimum requirements include a GTX 1060 or equivalent, and the Recommended 1440p/60fps setup is an Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 7 1800X and a GTX 1080 (8GB) or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 (8GB). Not too crazy on the upper end, but the minimum bar to entry is definitely high. You’ll also need to clear 50GB of disc space to play the game.
Update: The Doom Eternal Steam page has removed the requirements, indicating some changes may be in order, but for now, this is the information we have:

Minimum

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7/64-Bit Windows 10
  • Processor:  Intel Core i5 @ 3.3 GHz or better, or AMD Ryzen 3 @ 3.1 GHz or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4GB), GTX 1060 (6GB), GTX 1650 (4GB) or AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB)/RX 470 (4GB)
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: (1080p / 60 FPS / Low Quality Settings)

Recommended

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-6700K or better, or AMD Ryzen 7 1800X or better
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8GB), RTX 2060 (8GB) or AMD Radeon RX Vega56 (8GB)
  • Storage: 50 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: (1440p / 60 FPS / High Quality Settings)
Minimum seems kinda beefy.

They look like bs requirements considering that the PS4 version is confirmed to aim for 60 fps on both Pro and base models. That's quite an achievement even if it's going to be 900p on base PS4 (that's just my guess).

They state that the official requirements are pulled from steam and there's gonna be some changes to them.

It is a little surprising after how well optimized DOOM 2016 was. Having said that, i have been wathcing some 4k max settings PC vids of this, and the graphics are unreal, so maybe not that surprising.
Those specs are always overexaggerated.
id engine is super well optimized, if I'm able to play Youngblood at 4k60 with raytracing enabled, then I have no doubt I'm getting 4k120 in this game, just like in the 2016 one.

It looks like developers still optimize their games with much better results on consoles (GTX 970 is literally two times faster than PS4). I wonder what harwdare on PC would be needed to match PS4 version (maybe Digital Foundry on NxGamer will figure it out).

PS4 version gets exclusive content. That content is jaggies, blur and low resolution.

Glad I upgraded from my 1070ti pretty recently

hoping my 2070 super can run Eternal as beautifully as my 1070 ti ran Doom 2016

This is a current gen game being released in 2020. Almost everyone is ingoring it, but RAM is going to be a huge bottleneck for the next gen consoles going forward.

There's too many variables to consider when running games, some might not even boot, some PC's may struggle, I don't know what they're thinking releasing these requirements knowing casuals don't have a clue what processor or graphics card they have lol

They're planning to use SSD as virtual RAM (at least Microsoft on XSX) so RAM won't be that big of an issue, IMO. We're getting the most-balanced systems for next-gen in terms of specs.
Are they? I don't think people seem to realize ssd's don't have unlimited read/writes to the drive. If they were to use it as virtual ram, the drives life expectancy would plummet really early. Plus it would be much much slower than the vram/ram in the console. I think people should wait for confirmation before saying things as if they are factual.

Um, we've known about this since June 2019.
Thanks to their speed, developers can now use the SSD practically as virtual RAM. The SSD access times come close to the memory access times of the current console generation.

I'm glad that I recently treated myself to another 16gb kit. I know this is not what you're reffering to, but I wanted to flex a bit.

Next gen consoles will stream assets faster than ever thanks to ultra fast SDD drives, so I'm not worried.

SSD & virtual RAM is the new GPGPU narrative that was used 7 years ago.

Sure the SSD will somewhat mitigate the lack of RAM, but it cannot make up for the paltry size upgrade anymore than GPGPU could mitigate the weak CPU upgrade from this gen.

They want you to have 4gb of v-ram as minimum, that's why the minimum requirements are that much.
1440p ultra 60 fps on PC, we don't know how far they push visuals. 1080 for 1440p 60 fps ultra is pretty much what u need these days for any game at a absolute minimum.

Do we know for sure that next-gen consoles (XSX and PS5) have just 16GB of RAM? They could end up having a bit more, we don't know.

The recommended specs doesn’t strike me as too far off, but the minimum doesn’t make any sense at all. If a 1060 6GB or 970 can only manage LOW settings @1080p, then how can base consoles run this at all, unless they use even lower settings @dynamic res 900p or something like that?

Apparently my 980 4GB clocked to 1.5Ghz will at best squeak by with medium settings, probably needing dynamic res even at that. That just seems insane given the consoles, which based on recent PS4 footage looks comparable to the PC footage we’ve seen.

Will there be a PC demo by any chance?

These are the requirements published by them. But as stated in the article, they've been pulled and will likely be modified.
I agree with the reccomended but yeah, the minimum seem very off. I'm guessing this is what they'll be changing. Hopefully in a day or two we'll have the updated specs.
As for the demo, it's a 3A game, so I very much doubt it. And it's getting close to release, so probably no.

That's why it's been removed. It was not accurate.

It's interesting that MS revealed practically all the specs for Series X, except for RAM. Windows Central has been correct so far on the specs and stated the total amount - 16 GB . It's possible the total size is not final and decisions are still in flux, but that's what it's looking like at the moment. Even though we know less about PS5, it is likely going to have same RAM allocation.

What's 3A? DOOM 2016 had a demo on both PC and consoles, so I think this will too, probably a bit after launch.
Triple A. AAA game. That is what I was reffering to.
It's getting awfully close to launching, only 12 days to go. I doubt there's gonna be a demo in this time frame.
Maybe after launch as you say, it's possible.

With 40x faster streaming speed (compared to HDD) developers will be able to stream 40x more data and therefore make a HUGE RAM savings. There's no need to load EVERYTHING to RAM at once with such ultra fast reading (streaming) speed.

1060 min? lol alrighty then

Yeah no shit I maxed the Doom 16 @ 1080p with a 1060 with over 100 fps with vulkan and 70s at 1440p. I'm going to assume since they're no longer using megatextures the new texture variety coupled with the size of them is reason.
