Well IMO, I always knew it was an inside joke of some sort. It's clearly written that way. My problem with it (without ever playing the game, I admit!) is that it's just bad writing IMO. Because it really does make the characters look even more redneck than just wearing jean jackets and riding on a motorcycle through a zombie apocalpyse while wearing a backwards baseball cap. I mean come on. I seriously have no interest in the game because of the way the characters are presented. And if it's not bad writing, then it's just reinforcing the stereotype of certain kinds of people being "trashy." I mean that kind of joke at the wedding alter ... wtf. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

You don't have to agree.
look up

days gone having bad writing is bullshit.

final fantasy 7 has the obvious Japanese overdramatic terrible writing but everyone seems to love

People do these bad jokes all the time in real life… and yes at altar in a wedding… it doesn’t need to mean anything to you but for the there there means a lot.

Writing should not be a scientific thing but just the way us people talk in real life.

So you think entertainment should reflect the dregs of society? :messenger_winking_tongue:

Usually people (I think) want good writing, good characters ... something that takes skill to craft. I don't think lowest common denominator sex jokes in a wedding scene, that make me feel like I'm in Alabama, is what I'm looking for in my games. But hey, you guys can do you. 🤷‍♂️

did you just ignore what i post?

Platinumed the game. Check psnprofiles if you want. It’s shit writing, please don’t defend it.
ok, can you explain why it's shitty writing?

Entertainment should stay true to how people talks in the world based on region and/or period that it is set up.

Futuristic can use even created new terms.
Present should be like today.
Past should be how it was in the past.

That is what make good writing… the writers that can create the same dialogue that a real person can have in the same/period/location/situation is a good writer.

Create real life dialogue/situation requires a lot of skill… even more than make these artificial mechanic dialogues.

Edit - Before people things too much… I don’t like Days Gone… I think it is generic but not due the dialogues.

They're bikers. What are you expecting, a Shakespearean epic?

I completed the game. The story isn't amazing but those two characters really aren't depicted as trailer trash at all. I honestly have no clue what they fuck you are going on about. But it's quite tragic.

I'm not sure who exactly it was but the Days Gone 2 pitch didn't leave the building for Sony to hear. A shame.
Yep. That's what I've read as well so its no fault of Sony if they didn't even get the pitch for a sequel.

I'm not sad either. The game was ok. The story was ok. There could have been more they could've done with the open world but....meh

You should try the game, it's great.

Don't believe the naysayers.

Some of our entertainment does
reflect the dregs of society. Entertainment is all encompassing. Requiem for a Dream and Menace II Society wouldn't exist with your attitude.

Its a shame you didn't try the game based the characters look a certain way. I never played it until almost a year after buying it on PS store.
It wasn't until I build a gaming PC that I tried playing it. The game really opens up after the 1st quarter and I played it all the way through to the end. Something which I seldom do nowadays because my playing time is limited.
It's a good game.

Writing could have been better for sure, but Days Gone was actually a really good game. I enjoyed the heck out of it. With few polishes here and there, the sequel could have been great. The first Uncharted game wasn't perfect either, and look at the sequel. I wish Jeff all the best in his new role.

Seems like a very solid addition. Let's hope he contributes to Perfect Dark also.

Interesting to see them moving to Unreal 5 Engine for even Tomb Raider. Makes their work with Perfect Dark all the more important.

I haven't played the game but, even as a "joke", I'm trying to figure out in what possible context it doesn't still come across as a trashy hillbilly type comment?

People quote it because it's embarrassing writing, no matter the "context."

Not sure what's happening here, is a man having lots of sex with his wife an embarrassing thing? I've played the game and 100% done everything possible there and I find it natural. Actually the overall acting and writing feels extremely organic and natural and never seen a game like that. Every movement in a conversation, silence, facial expression usually had more depth than most games and felt "believable" instead of exaggerated acting in most/all games.

A man having lots of sex with his wife is not an embarrassing thing.

A woman talking about having lots of sex with her husband, and comparing it to motorcycle riding, at a wedding alter is an embarrassing thing, i.e. it’s really bad writing. And if it’s meant to be serious, then those would be embarrassing characters.

It’s just Jerry Springer type stuff, which is why it gets called out repeatedly on boards.

Not talking about the technical aspects or the execution. The game may also be a blast. But regardless of context, that dialogue is just bad any way you slice it. It’s really not that big a deal though. I mean I thought Metroid Other M was an ok game, but every time Samus started talking I was looking over my shoulder to make sure the room was empty. The last thing I wanted to hear was “just what the hell are you playing?”

It was an inside joke between a couple. I really don't see how it's bad writing just because you find it embarrassing. People IRL say embarrassing stuff all the time.

Which is what I said. If they are meant to be trashy people, fine. Then the writing is right on the money.

Have you ever been to a wedding? You just don’t say things like “I’m gonna bang this broad to kingdom come every damn day of the week!”

What’s funny is I don’t even care about this. I was just explaining why people seem to make fun of it to a poster that was mad that … it gets made fun of. It doesn’t matter that it’s an “inside joke.” Like I said it just comes across as bad, so people laugh at it. That’s it. The fact that people are laughing at it on a decent scale is proof enough of how it’s perceived. I really don’t have an interest in the game and never will, so like I said none of this matters to me. I honestly don’t have anything else to add so I’m good on this one.

You guys are funny man.

That wedding was a joke in itself, as no one showed up. Since no one liked it (bikers and her family). But they didn't give a shit.

Then she recites a line that, when first proposed, she said was an absolute no go as she hated all that biker shit. She was messing with him.

As for the story. I thought it was kind of decent for an open world game. The info about his wife being drip feeded throughout the NERO missions was pretty good and kept me playing on. I got less involved with the first Horizon as the story kind of completely stalled until very late into the game. Days Gone's quest lines were mostly okay.

Yep, the writing makes total sense imo. You could argue the "acting" is bad because it is, but the writing isn't the culprit here.

Lara about to talk to himself like a psycho when she free a bandit camp, can't wait.

Also people still bashing that ride me like you ride your bike line without a fucking context and i don't even have the strenght to be mad anymore...i guess people just love to have dumb opinions, even worse when they didn't even played the game.

Lol what, Lara is fkn amazing compared to the days gone dude everyone keeps forgetting the name right after finishing the game.
The only thing amazing about new lara is her ass dude, she even start the events of the third game killing a fuckload of innocents and she just brush that off like it's not a big thing, bitch can only make porn noises and being a shit character for 3 games.

Never forget

Sorry, maybe classic Lara, even if she was something of a stereotype, is better than Deacon, but new Lara is simply one of the most insufferable character that ever graced videogames

She is as bland as it comes.

Deacon being an unhinged fucker already has more flavour than anything they did with her.
Deacon has less personality than a GTA side character, not even playstation fanboys should defend that garbage when Sony's games are supposed to be the best cinematic experience. Lara literally destroyed the world, that is more interesting than a boy with his bike.
