Can I be honest here...I don’t think the Xbox Series S is going to last very long into the generation.

Yet it still isn't a 4k games machine. Maybe they should change it.

Edit
Wait are you trying to say if the switch was 199$ it wouldn't sell better? Hahahahhahahahhahahahahahha Holy shit wtf?
Why has Microsoft changed the marketing for the Series S, but not the Series X? 💩

No I'm not trying to say that at all, that's something you've just dreamed up within your own head. The point I've made is that the Switch and PS4 have sold an absolute ton without ever going down to the magical $200 price point. You didn't think this through did you 🤡.

Since when has marketing not talked about upper limits? Bit naive to think it wouldn't.
We've just had Psychonauts 2 at 1680p 60fps on Series S, so in that case it exceeds the marketing.
That's not the point, I also said that marketing it as a "4K machine" would be as valid as marketing the One X as a 4K machine (which I never complained about).

The point is not the exceptions, the idea is how the expectations are set and what you can expect when you start a game.

There are levels of honesty even in marketing.

The One X had 4k games the same as the Series S has 1440p games, the very first party game released in Gears Tactics was 4k on Series X and 1440p on Series S.
The last first party game released was Psychonauts 2 which was 4k on Series X and 1680p on Series S.
In between we had Flight Simulator a next gen exclusive that couldn't run last gen, it was 1440p on Series X and 1080p on Series S. The framerate was actually better on Series S despite your claims about it being rooted to last gen it ran one of the most visually demanding games ever made with no problem, that's without Tier 2 VRS, SFS and Mesh Shaders.

A game simply not possible on any last gen machine.

Wasn't a lot of compromises made for the XSS version? Besides obviously reduced rendering resolution.

I remember reading the analysis & comparisons of the game and they picked up on some interesting stuff happening, where the two versions looked almost unrecognisable in certain instances.

Like this, taken from the analysis thread:

Pop-in looked pretty significant.

Only if you zoom in 400%

You wouldn't notice during gameplay.

Why does all your posts have to be so antagonising all the time.

It's tiresome beyond belief. Haven't you seen the warning?
Why do you keep lying about Jason Ronald and XSS? I find the lies tiresome.

There is no concern over the Series S, that's just something you've thrown around as you've become more and more triggered by the logical analyses of the Series S's limitations and what bearing this might have on its future in this thread, and it's lack of sales in comparison to the other next-gen consoles.

You've even got people who have seen piles of them in Walmart and GameStop. When has that been the case for the other machines?

"the underpowered XSS can do things the PS5 cannot" - is this really how badly you're taking this? Still talking about features that hardly anybody cares about and could be added at any time? Still talking about the PS5 because console warring is your second nature?

Lots of people are rushing out to buy Series X consoles in Europe, but now you're making up crap about how they won't buy a 'casual console', after spending ages bragging about how amazing this console is, and what great value it represents 🤭. After spending what seems like an age going on about GamePass and how the PS5 is bad value comparatively. After Microsoft has been so consumer friendly with its backwards compatibility program. After Microsoft bought Bethesda. Logic? Nah, why bother with that!

As we've seen in this thread, people have noted Series S consoles available in the US too. So aswell as gamers in Europe, the Middle East and Asia having less demand for the Series S, there's also some evidence of this being the case in parts of America too.

You're right about one thing though (finally) - popularity does play a part and compared to the other next-gen consoles the Series S simply isn't very popular 😂.
Yes, yes the PS is more popular than the Xbox. It is the primary reason why the PS5 sells better it's not a news flash. The availability of a system does not determine its success but of course you know that. The Switch is available at my local Target store. Should I assume that it isn't selling well? These arguments lack logic.

You talk about being triggered but here you are in a thread about a system you don't own trying to peddle a narrative that it's not popularity but the XSS system power that's the real issue. And you have the nerve to talk about console warring? You certainly seem like you are concerned or something else...

Again the XSX is an enthusiast device and people will run out and buy it regardless. It also has a 'rare' quality so FOMO plays a big part too. The XSS remains a superior value over any competing device but that doesn't mean that popularity won't override value.

I have no idea what you are saying about Bethesda but it was cool for MS to honor contracts and still support Sony with legacy titles. They are very consumer friendly. I hope Sony takes note and drops the cloud save pay wall. It'd be great if they dropped the $10 charge as well.

That's not the point, I also said that marketing it as a "4K machine" would be as valid as marketing the One X as a 4K machine (which I never complained about).

The point is not the exceptions, the idea is how the expectations are set and what you can expect when you start a game.

There was nothing dishonest about the way the XSS was marketed. It does everything it is advertised to do. You are simply holding the budget console to a standard you aren't for your preferred device.

Accusing me of lying is quite an accusation, care to back that up?

It's been recently revealed that you're a proven liar - a moderator had to intervene and tell us the truth. Since the truth escapes you. You're hardly the most credible.

If going accuse me of lying with no facts it's probably going to end up with another mod intervention again.

Like I said before you're too argumentative and emotional.

You claimed that $200 was the 'magic number' - and yet the fact the most popular consoles haven't even hit that point after years on the market 'isnt relevant'?

Do you realise how stupid that sounds? 😁

Black Friday had massive amounts of Xbox one and PS4's moved at $199 for years (2017, 2018 and 2019) There was no need in 2020 as everything was sold out. Maybe you should check your facts before calling people names.

And the Series X is more popular than the Series S. Not exactly rocket science, but you're now making up spurious nonsense as to why the latter isn't selling at the same rate.

All you've done is talk constantly about the PS5 in a Series S thread. However, despite your generally overly-sensitive nature, and your complaints, the good thing about an open forum is that you can move freely and post in any thread that interests you. I'm sorry if this also triggers you - perhaps we can lock the forum down so this doesn't happen 😄.

It's just a shame the Series S doesn't have that 'rare' quality to help it sell lol. I need to keep a list of your reasons for why the Series S isn't selling in the biggest market (but apparently will continue to do so in America) just so I can keep up. And this despite the incredible value the machine offers. Despite the Series X being sold out for nearly a year now. Despite the 360 selling really well here. And despite GamePass, 1440p support, cloud saves, free next-gen upgrades, VRR, (err have I missed anything..?). Incredible really 😂😂.

I didn't call him anything - I said what he was saying was stupid so you can calm your tits.

As you say those price points weren't permanent. Not to mention PS4s had sold loads of units in 2013 - 2016, and outside of these Black Friday /Christmas windows in 2017 - 2019.

Why dropping 1440p from marketing and not 4k? I can think of one thing. Televisions. There are either 1080p sets, or 4k sets. There is no inbetween when it comes to a TV. 1440p isn't really marketable.

Otherwise it wouldn't make sense. Series S does deliver 1440p games after all (RE Village being a recent one) or above (Psychonauts 2). Or native 4K such as Ori, at least I think it is. Yeah the One X can render Psychonauts at a higher res, but at half the framerate lol. Its much more janky on One X, and i've seen those load times, its not pretty. I bet an imaginary 60fps mode would drop to 1080p on One X, while 120hz is out of the question.

So, all 3 systems don't hit their advertised resolution that often. But they still do it here and there which is why it makes sense to market it as such. But in case of 1080p, I think it just resonates more with the TV market.

I almost bought a series S. To be honest, I still toy with the idea now. It'll be a decent way for me to play some RPG classics, plus I'll be able to play the next gen version of FIFA 22.

However, I know eventually I'd have series X FOMO and would upgrade, so buying the S now is a waste of money for me.

PS2 sold for 12 years...10 of those years was 199$ and under. It literally sold better every time there was a price cut. 199$ is the magic number. I'll not making it up. I didn't pick the number. It's the highest amount people will still impulse buy at.

Edit
So you think the XSS will buck the trend set by literally every other console to date with big increases to sales at 199$? I'm the one who sounds stupid. Sure sure.

Did you not watch the reveal video where in the video it stated PS5 exclusive?
It doesn’t matter what they said, it was always a cross gen game that started life on the PS4. They were trying to sell PS5s, just like how they announced all their other games at a PS5 event and made no mention that they’d also release on PS4.

What about the PS4 and Switch? You know consoles releases in the past decade.

Also you're moving goalposts not surprisingly. You didn't say a big increase, you said it will sell 'gangbusters'.

Holy fuck. Big increase on something selling fine already = gangbusters.
Again your argument that something else is selling good at a higher price means what exactly? That doesn't contradict anything. You have no argument. Zero. Nothing you are saying has any relevance.

Edit.

The guy making up stuff about things said in a promotional video is claiming someone else is emotional. Can't make this stuff up. In this very thread you again stated lies about what Jason Ronald said in the XSS video. He never said all XSS games would have the same graphical features nor did he all the games would run with zero pop in as you were claiming with the Flight Simulator pictures. You continue to have zero credibility so anything you are claiming can be treated just like the other lies you have said about me and Jason. They can be ignored.

And the Series X is more popular than the Series S. Not exactly rocket science, but you're now making up spurious nonsense as to why the latter isn't selling at the same rate.

There is nothing a 'shame' about XSS except the continued stream of nonsense people who don't own the system or know anything about it say. You have no idea how well the XSS is selling in the US or anywhere else aside from anecdotal 'I saw some being sold in a store in Slovakia!'. Regardless of how much more popular the PS remains none of the detractors such as yourself can prove is that the XSS isn't powerful enough to run current generation games or be supported till the end of the generation. So you resort to sales arguments or downplaying of the systems features even when those features are totally absent elsewhere.

The talk of the 360 continues to be silly especially when there was an entire generation after that where the Xbox lost significant mindshare against the PS. Unless you can actually present facts that prove MS will drop the XSS before the generation ends as the subject suggests, everything you say is more distraction from the simple fact that the XSS is a better value than any other competitor in that segment and offers features other more expensive consoles lack. No amount of changing the subject will make that any less true. Sorry that bothers you so much that you felt the need to pop into an open forum and display your ignorance.

There are several people who think that the XSS is unique in that despite there being less powerful consoles on the market the XSS won't last this generation. Developers apparently won't be able to ever improve in tapping the features of the console despite the fact that every other console released got better with time. I suppose MS should have contacted some of the forum engineers here for advice because clearly they know better than what MS does.

Why dropping 1440p from marketing and not 4k? I can think of one thing. Televisions. There are either 1080p sets, or 4k sets. There is no inbetween when it comes to a TV. 1440p isn't really marketable.

The XSS is the only console on the market that gets attacked when a game doesn't run at 1440p or a title lacks raytracing. The double standard is amazing.

Saying "do you realize how stupid that sounds" about something somebody posts isn't calling them stupid? Please, semantics.
It doesn't matter if they were permanent or not, they sold millions of units each year and prove that the price point has huge impact. Just admit when you are wrong.
In 2017, Sony moved 9 Million units in the quarter with the PS4 at $199, compared to about 9 million total for the whole rest of the year. That's half their yearly sales basically from the $199 price point.

So a big increase of a shit-selling console would automatically equal selling 'gangbusters'.

Yep that's pretty stupid 😅.

PS4 and Switch sold loads without hitting this 'magical price point', because if a console is successful it will sell at any reasonable price. Series S just isn't that popular.

I've just checked Amazon UK and the Series S has more reviews than the Series X, might mean nothing but it's obviously selling.

Jason Ronald said in the XSS video
I literally provided many captions of what he actually says in the video. So where are the lies exactly?

Unless you're telling me I've faked these images? I'm struggling to see what I could have lied about.

A proven liar saying someone else has zero credibility.. that's an incredible lack of self awareness.

Next time you accuse someone of something whether it's lying or accusing half forum of doxxing someone.. can you provide some proof or facts?

That's how everyone unearthed your appalling dishonesty last time around.

No - we just know that anyone can pick one up much more easily than any next-gen console. And you're making up excuses left, right and centre for why it isn't selling.

Yep the 360 was very popular, and so is the Series X which remain sold out. So how do you reconcile that when you keep banging on and on about the last generation. Xbox lost mindshare, but the Series X is in selling faster than they can make them. Just more drivel to fill space 😁.

Your little attempt at a history lesson, and all the rubbish about why Europe doesn't like the Xbox brand is a bunch of mumbo jumbo you've just made up in your little mind. Most people simply don't agree with you that it's such great value otherwise it would be sold out - like all the other next-gen consoles lol.

So what console are you talking about in a Series S thread?
He made a sweeping statement and suggested a big increase in sales automatically equals selling gangbusters.

I corrected him because it doesn't.

I don't think the Series S is currently selling shit. I do think it's way less in demand than the other next-gen consoles.

You may think that.

It may be the case, or it may be the case that since it is obviously easier and cheaper to make there is more supply.

We just don't know until Microsoft tells us.

All of us are guessing a lot, we have no idea if they are making more series x or more series S. The manufacture of more of one or the other could skew things significantly, both what's sold up to date and in the future.

See, the thing is that MS tends to always launch Xbox consoles along with something that no one wants, that they later bin off.

Xbox - The "Duke" controller

Xbox 360 - the HD-DVD drive

Xbox One - Kinect

Xbox Series S - The Xbox Series X

:)

Have you tried reporting it to the police?

Lol, I did but they told me to just buy all the consoles and not worry about it.
But really, he is right, the other next gen consoles get some sort of magic pass on any performance issues regardless of what they are advertised to do.

See, the thing is that MS tends to always launch Xbox consoles along with something that no one wants, that they later bin off.

Xbox - The "Duke" controller

Xbox 360 - the HD-DVD drive

Xbox One - Kinect

Xbox Series S - The Xbox Series X

:)

Whoa aaa there, the Duke was awesome for my big hands. Also wasn't the hd-dvd just an optional add on for movies only?

It was, yes. I'm just pulling people's legs. Sony and Nintendo are just as guilty of releasing add-ons that customers don't want :)

I remember that Atari sold a toilet seat add-on for the Jaguar console, for some reason:

It doesn’t matter what they said, it was always a cross gen game that started life on the PS4. They were trying to sell PS5s, just like how they announced all their other games at a PS5 event and made no mention that they’d also release on PS4.

so
Your saying they openly lied?

Yes. They've done it many times and they'll do it many more. Remember how they announced Uncharted 4 as 60fps and showed it running at 60fps in "real time"? How did that turn out? Turns out it was a pre-rendered trailer made on a "server farm" setup of PS4s using effects that they knew weren't possible on the PS4.
