Battlefield 2042 | Review Thread

According to Wikipedia, the phrase “little green men” refers to armed soldiers of the Russian Federation in unmarked green military uniforms with modern Russian military equipment during 2014. These forces were responsible for the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine by the Russian Federation between February and March 2014 as a result of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.

While Battlefield 2042 is certainly not the first game to reference terrorist organisations, it’s certainly one of the few that don’t even bother being subtle about it. Some people have raised concerns that while the skin itself may not be a cause for controversy, the name “Little Green Man” is definitely not okay.

People are mad on twitter, while I'm actually enjoying these special details.

This reminds me of people throwing a fit when Modern WARFARE used white phosphorous.

So can I say, I want to play Bad Company 2 Rush only, and it delivers? servers with real people, all the original maps?!?
I have found many of the old BF games and modes via Portal the problem for me last night anyhow are the populations of the servers are super low with as so many servers have people really spread out.

I know its early access and this should get a lot better with official launch but that will also mean many more people making their own servers

The grenade gunner seat on the tanks is fun to use when rushing an objective. 4 thumps and explosions.

Theres only 2 maps from BC2. So BC2 Rush is 2 maps only.
Only 2 maps from 1942. Only 2 maps from BF3.

Assuming they keep supporting Portal - its going to be a long time for more classic maps to arrive.
Since they dropped single player I expected far more content out of the gate.

uasically so far the BEST thing about Battlefield 2042 is Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 within Portal.
Hell yeah, 1942 is whats got me excited to play it tonight. I hope Portal is successful, so they add BF Vietnam to it. Anyway, this is the First BF game I've been jacked for since BF2.

ok after playing a bit more, conquest, breakout and a bit of hazard zone, now I have some doubts about specialists in warfare modes...

I foresee an horrible future of 128 players running around sweating and boasting a "full optional" meta kit, meaning all with the same character, weapon, attachment, gadget, etc

128 meta tryhards, not a good image

I think they should find quickly a way to balance all this thing out to avoid this picture, or in 2-3 weeks maximum that will be the case

ok. im gonna finally try Portal. hopefully its this games saving grace. Because the main game kinda sucks so far. Out of like 6 games. I almost had fun once. kinda. for a moment

also. to confirm. There is no spotting? And pinging is relatively useless, right? Because only 3 ppl can see it...and like 60 other ppl cant

2 maps per game in portal!! WTF. Hopefully they'll add more. I've got my fingers crossed for BF Vietnam. I played the shit outta of 1942, Vietnam, and BF2. Most of these kids today don't even remember BF Vietnam, or they think it's the Bad Company add-on.

I'm getting flashbacks. This is like watching Halo's destruction in real time. I think I can finally put BF out of my mind as the mechanics of the game no longer align with what I enjoyed about the series to begin with.

Game is fun as hell. Surprisingly enough I actually prefer All out Warfare to the base Portal content. Going back to BC2 and BF3 is fun but I played a ton of those games already, so Its more of of a Nostalgia trip than anything. The chaotic nature of AoW is hitting all the right notes for me so far, and im even warming up to the specialists.

They actually mentioned supporting Portal as time goes on. So there will be more present.

welp. i finally tried Portal. I had more fun in 10 mins playing Portal mode, than 2+ hours of the main 2042 game.
Its not perfect. But it is way better. And it really shows u why the new game isn't good, when ur playing a remaster essentially.

Because the worst parts of Portal, are the lingering 2042 stuff. Like the HUD, progression, map, revive bleed out etc. Is there a way to just completely change the game into Bad Company 2?? as far as how the game looks? and remove the shitty bleed out thing?

I don’t care what anyone says, 2042 is awful. I tried playing it with a buddy this evening and the maps are shit and the gameplay is just not there. Portal is amazing but 2 maps for each game means I’ll get bored pretty quick.

I’ll check in next year to see if they support it long term.

After several attempts to join a server and getting that persistence error (or one of my friends just outright crashing), my friends and I finally got in to a game.

Performance is absolutely abysmal. It's not even fully utilizing my 1080 Ti. I see it maxing out at 90% usage while still experiencing framerate drops below the 72fps cap I had to force. This is across most all graphical settings as well. CPU (5900X) also has PLENTY of headroom.

We then got the persistence error yet again after that first match ended. So we tried out Portal. Connected just fine to all the servers and game modes we tried there. Saw a shitload of sad sacks that set up and joined XP bot farming servers. Tried out some of the featured game types for BF1942, BF3, and Bad Company 2. All seemed... fine?

The biggest issue with Portal is how you actually change weapon attachments in those games. You have to customize it, then modify the position of the attachment you actually want to be in the slot closest to the center of the plus(+) menu. Otherwise, you can't actually attach anything. Who the FUCK though that was a good idea? It's bad enough that there are so many other issues with the UI in this game.

This Reddit thread does a great job at illustrating most all of the issues I have with this game:

I've been with this franchise since BF1942. It's had its ups and downs, but I've never seen a Battlefield game as bad as this is right now. Yes, this is far worse than Battlefield 4 was at launch. It's abysmal so far. Maybe I'll feel better if I could actually play more of the All Out Warfare mode, but who the hell knows when that'll happen.

All the specialist designs are fucking whack.
There's literally one of them that actually looks like they'd be a soldier (And his gadget is bugged and disabled atm -_-) The rest really do look like a work-party going to a paintball game.

Wait..hold on..there's no scoreboard? For real? No scoreboard as in mid match I can't hit a button and bring up a floating scoreboard showing every players standing?

Like this..

You're saying this doesn't exist anymore?!

Correct.

The lack of a scoreboard, or even personal stats, has been a big point of outrage from the community since the first tests were conducted.

So yeah, no scoreboard. No end of round score display either. You can't tell at a glance now if the server you (randomly) joined has someone hacking in it based on score. Of course, all chat also doesn't inform you of any cheaters either since that just doesn't exist in the game either.

True, I expect that to be added back as it seems lots have been asking for that. At the very least I believe they should just have it as a HUD option if someone feels.......some type of way about seeing other people's kills or deaths etc lol Many of us like to this data from time to time.

edit oh yea, got me so triggered I forgot what I was going to post lol

Anyone take anyone's dog tag aka SOUL yet?

What in the ever loving fuck is this. No end of round scoreboard either? So what happens? You play an epic 20 minute long conquest map and it just...ends? That's it? You don't get to see and compare end of round stats?

At the end of the round you see round time, the final reinforcements remaining, and a few stats showing your "contribution" to the round. So like, you'll see how many captures you had, revives, and your total kills + assists for instance.

Then it shows the top 3 players in the game for various stats. So maybe the person with the most kills out of the entire server is shown, then maybe most objectives captured, etc.

Then it shows a bit of your squad and one statistic for each player. Say SexyBob repaired 253 points of damage, Zips had 12 revives, Phunky had 1,820 damage done with vehicles, and Jerry managed 2 sidearm kills. At the bottom it shows what "place" your squad ended up in as well as other quick stats: Number of objectives your squad captured, kills and assists (for offensive and defensive), revives, etc.

You never once see how the entire team or server performed.

I'm utterly flabbergasted. I loved that wicked dopamine hit at the end of the round where it showed your badges slamming onto the screen, then having the scoreboard posted up so I could see how much of a boss I was, and yet they took it out. I can't even understand what the reasoning would be for this.
